16.01.2022 Over the last few weeks I’ve only been reposting stories, images, articles etc supporting the BLM movement and haven’t posted any images of me and my usual day to day because I’ve felt that what’s going on with me isn’t important right now. I’m posting this image of me at the BLM rally in Brisbane two weeks ago as a response to hearing a few loud voices speaking against those that went to the rally. Claiming it was irresponsible due to Covid and even some politicians saying ...anyone that is job seeker or keeper and attended should be denied their money. I feel those that felt safe enough and took the necessary precautions to attend in a sign of solidarity were right to do so. The ignorance surrounding all colonised history around the world that leads to the obvious presence of systemic racism internationally is a far heavier weight than Covid is or will ever be. Racism is a deep and dark disease that needs to be cured, and to do that we ALL have to come together, especially those of us that can use our privilege to create change. To do that we must step outside of ourselves and show true compassion for those that for centuries have never had a fair go. Don’t judge the outrage, ask why it exists, and imagine yourself/family in that same position, then try to truly feel that outrage. We do not live within a system that is natural, we live in a system that was created to benefit the people who created it. So let’s start creating a new system, together, to benefit everyone.
