18.01.2022 RENEWABLE ENERGY THE SAVING GRACE Once again renewables have proven their value in stabalising a stressed network over the Australia Day long weekend. Victoria and SA experienced extreme temps in the 40s which in turn lead to a spike in demand as the air conditioners got a workout. Renewables helped supplement this demand with a coinciding spike in solar production. Figures indicate renewables shaved peak demand by over 2,700MW, which translates to an output greater than the Liddell power plant. A lot more renewable energy is required as the AEMO also called on diesel generators in SA to be used to supplement load.Without the fantastic uptake of renewable energy over the last five years the Australia Day long weekend could have been catastrophic in Victoria and SA.
