23.01.2022 This past week, members of the Wilai Foundation have spent time at Baan Unrak. Through your amazing generosity, we raised enough money to purchase a new oven for the Bakery and lots of much needed kitchen equipment. Kardinia childcare also donated many items of clothing to be given to the children. It was our privilege to be able to deliver all these things on your behalf. THANK YOU!

19.01.2022 An incredible monument in addressing statelessness at the UNHCR annual meeting: "More than 300 pledges were received at a meeting in Geneva hosted by UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency. The sheer number of pledges is unprecedented for a single occasion. Among them over 220 were commitments by more than 55 states to accede to or ratify the UN statelessness conventions, facilitate naturalization of stateless people, prevent statelessness by ending gender discrimination in nationality... laws, ensure universal birth registration, provide protection to stateless people and enhance or initiate data collection on stateless populations." "We are reaching a critical mass in the global effort to stamp out statelessness. This week has shown that there is an unprecedented level of political will and commitment to resolve this issue and prevent it from arising in the first place, said UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi." We are hopeful that this will lead to great achievements in addressing the challenges of statelessness and ensuring that everyone has a right to belong. 17.01.2022 The children at Baan Unrak, Sangkhlaburi expressed their gratitude in song to Surfside Waves Soccer Club for the donation of Surfside strips. Our most heartfelt thanks to Surfside Waves for so generously donating some of their soccer strips to Baan Unrak orphanage in Thailand. Members of the Wilai Foundation took as many of the smaller tops as we could manage in our luggage and presented them to the children during our visit. However, they were only allowed to have a quick g...limpse of them as the orphanage has decided they would like to keep the soccer uniforms and gift them to the children as a very special Christmas present. (More photos to come once they have been received!) The level of excitement was a delight to witness as the kids love their soccer - and the idea that they can now play in teams with uniforms is a dream come true! Thank you once again, Surfside for your kindness and generosity - surely this is the essence of what the game is all about. Well done to the club and all the best for next season.

07.01.2022 This year, Kyrgyzstan was the first country in the world to eradicate statelessness of a country! How did they do it? One organization, Ferghana Valley Lawyers Without Borders, provided free legal help to more than 10,000 people living in Kyrgyzstan without formal citizenship over four years. Leading this pivotal change was Azizbek Ashurov, who was selected as the 2019 winner of the UN Refugee Agencys Nansen Refugee Award.... It's hoped that similar organisations will push change and end statelessness of the world because we all belong! https://thediplomat.com//kyrgyzstan-eradicates-statelessn/

06.01.2022 One of the things Pim was most looking forward to when receiving the Wilai Foundation education sponsorship was "the chance to wear new shoes and a sport uniform to school, just like a normal child". We are pleased to hear that Pim is using her sports uniform and runners to take part in mini-marathons in the Fang district! Well done Pim! Thank you to all the Wilai Foundation supporters, donations and contributors. 06.01.2022 A pilot study has begun in the Phillipines to prevent inter-generational statelessness, aiming to register 1,500 children as citizens and support their life ahead with access to education and healthcare. If the project is successful there is a possibility this can be replicated in other countries and end statelessness. 02.01.2022 Baan Unrak, translated from Thai as "House of Joy", is a children's home and community development project in Sangkhlaburi, Thailand, providing a loving home, food, medical care and education to over 130 children from Thailand, Burma including the neighbouring Mon and Karen States. As part of Baan Unraks goal to be self-sustaining, they operate a bakery which sells all kinds of vegetarian meals and snacks. The bakery is not only a means to generate revenue; it is also a way ...of providing work for some of the many Burmese people in the area who have fled their homeland to the Thai border area in search of work. It also functions as an occupational training centre where some of the older children can gain valuable experience learning about the service industry. Please, can you help us support the children of Baan Unrak by raising money to purchase new Bakery equipment? Here's the link to our fundraising campaign: https://chuffed.org/project/55085
