24.01.2022 An original play by Sarah Westgarth, starring Bryce Batty, Shannen Beckett, Bella Cook, Alicia Crowhurst, James Crowhurst, Orion Furbank-Meyer, Sophie Hollingworth, Jude Mills, Isobelle O'Brien and Tom Richardson. Performed at the Tower Arts Centre on December 20 and 21, 2019. Photography by Alex Beckett.
22.01.2022 It was my birthday yesterday, and my best friend made me these incredible pieces inspired by 'Delayed.' Can't believe it's been two months since production week. And can't wait to make some new theatre in 2020.
20.01.2022 The most wonderful time of year approaches - we're a month away from the Adelaide Fringe! It's a glorious month of art, theatre, comedy and everything in between. Want to check out a show but don't know where to start? Here are some recommendations! 1. Orpheus - The Flanagan Collective / Gobbledigook Theatre... I took my senior Drama class to see this in 2018, and we had the most extraordinary time. A brilliant example of the power of storytelling. Saw it again last year, and will see it again in 2020, and will keep going back as long as they keep doing the show. They also return with the sister show 'Eurydice' and a new one titled 'The Gods', which I am very keen to see.https://adelaidefringe.com.au/fringetix/orpheus-af2020 2. Cassie and the Lights - Patch of Blue On another Drama excursion, we saw Patch of Blue's 'We Live by The Sea', another truly extraordinary experience that left us speechless. They're back with a new piece of work about kids living in the foster care system based on real-life events and interviews with children in care. No doubt this will be a special one. https://adelaidefringe.com.au//cassie-and-the-lights-af2020 3. Friendly Feminism for the Mild Mannered - Millicent Sarre Caught this one at last year's Caberet Festival, and am thrilled Mim has brought it to the Fringe. She's one of Adelaide's most accomplished musical theatre performers, and she has put together an entirely original cabaret show that speaks to modern audiences about the experience of being a woman today. Funny, poignant and clever, you don't want to miss this local gem. https://adelaidefringe.com.au//friendly-feminism-for-the-m 4. The Wild Unfeeling World - Casey Jay Andrews Lion House Theatre co. I reviewed Casey's 2019 show 'The Archive of Educated Hearts' and it was one of the most moving pieces of theatre I've ever seen. She's back with a new one-woman show based on Moby Dick. Cannot wait. https://adelaidefringe.com.au//the-wild-unfeeling-world-af 5. The Will To Be - Mark Salvestro A University Office, 1962: Homosexuality is illegal. The fear of communism is in the air. A lecturer is dismissed. His secret is out. Will he choose legacy or the law? One man's exploration of sexuality, society and shame, laced with the words of Shakespeare. This one is written and performed by Melbourne-based Mark Salvestro; it's sure to be excellent. https://adelaidefringe.com.au/fringet/the-will-to-be-af2020 Those are some of the shows we'll definitely be checking out. What's on your list to see this year?
14.01.2022 Christmas is over, but weeks of the school holidays stretch ahead. Need something fun for the kids to do? I'm running a musical theatre holiday program from the 6th to the 10th of January. Kids get to rehearse a show, play games, and make new friends. Places are still available! More information can be found at https://wildeanddarling.com.au/
12.01.2022 What an amazing week! A group of 17 incredible kids spent five days putting together a production of Alice in Wonderland, learning songs, dances and lines. Many of them had never done anything like this before, but you couldn't tell come showtime! Huge thanks to St. John's Grammar School for hosting us. More holiday workshops and activities for kids to come in the future...
12.01.2022 It's been a month since we performed 'Delayed' for our two wonderful audiences. I am still so grateful to everyone who supported this production - the first (but by no means last!) venture of Wilde and Darling productions. Thank you to all our Pozible supporters who made it that much easier to bring the play to life. Thank you to Sylvia Morris for designing our poster and Lara Inskip for our logo. Thank you to Newland Uniting Church for being our rehearsal venue for over thre...e months. Thank you to Shani from Springbank Secondary High School, who assisted with the hiring of the Tower Arts Centre, a theatre that became our home for a week and was very good to us. Thank you to Alec Morris for being our lighting tech, and Emmeline Berry and Nicole Ranson for running out front of house. Thank you to Alex Beckett for her amazing photography. Thank you to everyone who came out and saw the show, and gave us such kind and thoughtful feedback. And of course, thank you to this amazing cast. They gave their time, effort and talent to this show and didn't hold anything back. We've all been missing our Monday nights together, eating Tick-Tock biscuits, mispronouncing the character's names, quoting John Mulaney, and laughing so hard we need to take a break. 'Delayed' was something special; thank you to everyone who was a part of it. See more
07.01.2022 I first saw The Flanagan Collective / Gobbledigook Theatre perform O R P H E U S with my senior Drama class in 2018. Our group was overwhelmed by it (many of whom are now part of the ensemble here at Wilde and Darling.) This is their third year back in Adelaide, and therefore my third time seeing the show, along with Bryce and Shannen, so sometimes you have to do something a little special for the artists that you love. Alex and Phil and their extraordinary work were a huge inspiration for me to start Wilde and Darling. They really demonstrate the impact of stories and live theatre in such a beautiful, powerful way. If I can ever write anything that makes people feel a fraction of what their shows do for me, I will be very happy. They're only here for two more weeks. Catch them if you can.
05.01.2022 It's been about four months since our first production was performed. 'Delayed' was a story about the importance of empathy, connection, and looking after one another - ideas that resonate more now than ever. I had big plans for the shows we were going to produce in 2020, as well as offering more workshops and performing opportunities for kids. Obviously, this has all been put on hold as the country and the world takes care of itself and works together to ensure our collecti...ve safety. It's been so heartening to see the creative community rally around each other, and provide alternative access to shows, comedy, music and art, knowing how much it is needed. Continue to support your favourite artists in any way that you can, and as soon as we're able, let's all get together and share some stories with each other. In the meantime, Wilde and Darling isn't going anywhere. I'm still writing and planning and I am so excited to one day make more shows about kindness and why that's all that matters. Until then, the 'Delayed' cast are getting together for an online chat tonight to catch up, and watch one of our old school Drama shows from 2017. Can't wait to see everyone's faces again. Let's keep looking after each other. See more
04.01.2022 In the interest of public health and safety, especially for the community's most vulnerable, I've made the decision to cancel this April's musical theatre workshop. This is in keeping with the advice to schools to cancel extra-curricula activities and and unnecessary gatherings. Any families who have already made a booking will be contacted shortly and be refunded in full. Will keep you posted about future events. This is an anxious and uncertain time for so many people. Be kind to each other and yourself.
04.01.2022 With the long weekend over, the school holidays are not far away, and we will once again be running an activity for kids! They'll spend two days learning songs, dances and drama scenes, as well as playing games and making new friends. More information and booking form here at the link in bio.
02.01.2022 Our school holiday program starts tomorrow! We've got a group of awesome kids who'll spend the week rehearsing a modern musical version of 'Alice in Wonderland.' The performing arts are so valuable to young people, and I'm excited to work on this show for the next five days. And this program is just the first thing Wilde and Darling are doing in 2020 - stay tuned for more of what we've got planned! (Photo from my last holiday program production of 'Alice' back in 2011).
