17.01.2022 another artwork to help aid struggling animals. Thanks to all the wildlife artists who have been so active in recent weeks doing their utmost to aid recovery and future planning.

17.01.2022 MONDAY HIGHLIGHT - "Blue Wren" - hand coloured linocut. After many a year (about 30....) I have finally been cajoled into creating a perennial favourite - the S...uperb Fairy-wren. Being in lockdown means I have many hours to watch these gorgeous little birds. They love to "hop-search" - which means jumping up from the ground to catch some unsuspecting bug or insect - quite a delight and very entertaining. Although it is only the male that has the beautiful blue colouring the females and juveniles are just as cute. Now available to buy online at http://www.vidapearson.com/store/p4/Linocut.html See more

17.01.2022 Another artwork up for auction with 100% of proceeds to Help for Wildlife.

14.01.2022 On an earlier safari in South Africa I learned just how wonderful the adaptations of the indigenous wildlife to their natural habitat really are.....and just ho...w naive humans can be in the same environment. As I eased my vehicle past some dense thorn bushes I spotted this big male lion sitting well back against the scrub. With mottled shade over his tawny body the dry summer grasses really made him partially invisible....at least to my naked eyes. It occurred to me to wonder if I would have even seen him had I been on foot. Within a minute I got one hell of a fright when I realised there was a female laying flat in the grass..... almost totally invisible and half way to me ....well within striking distance if she was that way inclined! It was on that early safari that I learned the wisdom of peeing next to your vehicle if the need arose and not wandering off behind a bush. This pastel artwork takes me back to my early learning in Africa and many trips later it is staggering to wonder just how much more there is yet to learn about that amazing continent and her rapidly dwindling wildlife. 12.01.2022 Birds of Prey in focus episode 2. The Peregrine Falcon. This episode features some stunning action still photos by our friend and supporter, expert raptor photo...grapher, David Whelan. Thanks Dave! We would also like to thank the following individuals for supporting us by making donations to the sanctuary following our previous video (surnames withheld for privacy): Dave, Tammie, Alex, Matthew, Carolanne, Lovisa, Tamasin, Ally and Kris. You guys are awesome. Thanks so much. These videos provide a focus point for our education programs in this time when it is impossible for us to conduct public displays. However this obviously involves a corresponding loss of income for us. So if you would like to (or are able to) donate to the care of our birds please visit www.hawkandowl.com.au and click the donate button on the bottom right hand side of our homepage. That way we can continue to bring you this content. Stay well everyone and enjoy the video! See more

05.01.2022 We are honoured to share our Kangaroo Island heritage-listed woodland with glossy black cockatoos.... to spend time just sitting and hanging out with these pers...onable, very friendly guys is really something precious. With the aftermath of the massive island bushfires yet to become clear it seems apparent much precious habitat has been burned and the glossies will suffer along with countless other critters. With the probable number of these distinctive and genetically unique cockies being unknown at this point in time recent estimates have seen them numbered at just a few hundred though that population figure is increasing thanks to the very great efforts of many islanders. But they need help if we are going to save this magnificent and unique bird. That is where you come in :). Your support can save a unique and beautiful bird. Please help. See more

03.01.2022 Earth Day 2020 is Wednesday, April 22!!! The Theme of Earth Day 2020 is Climate Action -- "Climate change represents the biggest challenge to the future of huma...nity and the life-support systems that make our world habitable." Climate change will most likely have an extreme effect on the biodiversity of our planet because of changes in habitat. This has already been noted in mountainous regions. For example, with climatic warming, the permafrost layer found beneath most of the snow leopards range will warm. This will result in a lowering of the water table. Lush meadows will be replaced by less-productive grasslands. Springs, streams, and ponds will begin to disappear. This transformation of the landscape will result in smaller populations of the wild prey species the snow leopard depends on for food. In addition, expected weather extremes could result in droughts, exceptionally heavy, early, or late snowfalls, and partial melting and freezing of snow; all which could result in high mortality of prey species. And as the planet warms, the tree line will advance to higher elevations which could result in a loss of snow leopard habitat. Prediction models of climate change impacts on snow leopard habitat show a decrease in the southern portion with an increase in the northern but with fragmentation of the entire habitat caused by the upward shift of the treeline. This will have a harmful effect on the species by isolating individual snow leopards from one another, reducing the genetic diversity that maintains the health of the species. Today, we are facing the SARS CoV-2 virus. And while there is no evidence that there is any direct correlation of climate change with the novel virus, according to the WHO, climate change is anticipated to have a wide range of impacts upon the occurrence of infectious disease in human populations. And all the changes to the environment noted above will also have an impact on the human population. So, now is the time for us to step up and do whatever we can to tackle the climate crisis. "Earth Day 2020 is far more than just a day. Its a historic moment when citizens of the world are called to unite and bring their creativity, innovation, ambition, and bravery in order to meet our climate crisis and seize the enormous opportunities of a zero-carbon future." https://www.earthday.org/earth-day-2020/ Photo courtesy of Vikram Singh/Wild World India
