25.01.2022 WARRAWEE BRIDGE CLOSED With the amount of rain that has fallen into the Mersey catchment area today we've had to close the bridge in the Warrawee Reserve. Our team will monitor the river levels over the next 24 hours and hopefully we can reopen in time for the weekend.

25.01.2022 Looking for something to do these school holidays?

24.01.2022 The Warrawee Trailhead has now reopened. Just a heads up anyone wanting to ride the Railton Express today that the Mersey River water level is up so be prepared to get wet feet.

24.01.2022 Warrawee Toilets Closed Unfortunately we've had to temporarily close the toilets at Warrawee due an issue with the septic system. Our team are on the case and we expect them to reopen on Tuesday.

24.01.2022 Were you one of the lucky ones that got to head out to the Wild Mersey over the weekend? It was great to see the trails get a good working over by young and young at heart. In some exciting news, were currently designing a skills track for the entrance to the Warrawee trails. Just another reason to visit...

23.01.2022 The info you've been waiting for! New trails can be accessed from Badgers Road, just north of the Sheffield town centre. Keep an eye out for the Wild Mersey sign but if you get lost Google knows the way. This trailhead is only temporary (still has toilets and signage) until we can work through some complications with the planned Sheffield trailhead, hopefully during 2021. ... What this also means is (and we know this isn't ideal) the ride back to the trailhead is on a 1.5km fire trail that requires some climbing. So just save some energy for the way back and you'll be fine. We'll be holding an official launch early 2021, and opening some new trails at the same time, so for now just enjoy what the team at TrailScapes has created. The Wild Mersey is still far from complete, and with tomorrow's opening we reach just over the half way mark of what will eventually be a 100km+ network. Checkout our website for all the trail locations http://ridewildmersey.com.au/trails.html

23.01.2022 So, if you live within this area, you will be able to come and exercise on the Wild Mersey Mountain Bike Trails from Monday, 11 May.

23.01.2022 Disappointingly, one of our camera traps has captured 8 high resolution photos of dirt bikes and quad bikes on the Wild Mersey trails in the past week. It is very dangerous behaviour particularly when two quad bikes completely blocked the trail leaving no room to move to avoid a crash. Some of them may argue that there are no signs saying that you can't ride your motorbike on the trails. Well actually, some of the signs are still there, its just all the others keep being rem...oved no matter how we install them. Lucky for a couple of the riders where their faces are clearly visible that this time we are choosing not to post the photos. Next time we will be. For now we're just going to forward the photos onto Tas Police so they can pursue.

21.01.2022 West Coast, this will be an amazing trail network with some spectacular views. Tassie is well on its way to becoming a MTB state!

21.01.2022 Unfortunately weve had to close Off the Hook for a rest. Its always hard opening fresh trails at this time of the year as the combination of wet weather and slippery surface doesnt make for a happy ending to a ride. The team from Next Level MTB will work their magic and resurface the track over the next few weeks, and hopefully by then we will be able to reopen.

Due to the popularity we may look to host further workshops in the future.

15.01.2022 JUMP FOR JOY! Weve just reopened Laughing Gear and No Mersey. With some rain free days forecast this weekend, head along and check em out. ... High Voltage remains closed at this stage, it just needs a little more time to settle.

15.01.2022 WILD MERSEY TRAIL NETWORK CLOSED In accordance with the Premiers announcement this morning, the Wild Mersey mountain bike trails will be closed from midnight tonight (25/3) until further notice. We ask that all riders please resist the urge to get on the bike during this time and play your part in helping to stem the spread of the COVID-19 virus.... We look forward to seeing you on the Wild Mersey once it is safe to ride again.

15.01.2022 The final stage of the Wild Mersey is gonna rock! @trailscapes @flow_mtb

14.01.2022 Q: What do you do when no one is on the trails? A: Maintenance and upgrades With the Wild Mersey free of riders were bringing forward our winter maintenance program. Our team (thats Simsy working hard in the photos) has already started updating signage on and off the trails. In the coming weeks we will be rebuilding berms, reshaping jumps and upgrading a couple of bridges for your riding pleasure. ... The extension to the Mersey River Bridge is expected to get underway shortly and will take about a week to complete. So when the time comes to reopen we will have the trails in tip top condition. Until then youre just going to have to stay at home and wash your hands.

14.01.2022 In preparation for this weekends opening we'll be announcing some new trails over the coming days. Starting with BADGERS RUN At 2.65km long this trail starts at the Sheffield trailhead and takes riders to a major trail junction. With sections of flow and gentle climbs, this trail is a great way to warm up before turning it up a notch. ... The name takes inspiration from the Badgers Range and the large stumps that appear to have been gnawed on by Badgers as part of Sheffield's early forestry days.

13.01.2022 Just a reminder for those travelling to Warrawee that TasWater are upgrading the sewer network and some road closures are in place. Please obey all traffic sign as there have been reports of pedestrians and cyclists trying to pass through the construction site.

12.01.2022 TRAIL CLOSURE UPDATE The team at Next Level MTB is still working away in Warrawee giving the trails some much need attention. To allow them to undertaken this work the following trails will be closed until further notice: ... - Laughing Gear - High Voltage - No Mersey - Off the Hook Bee Line and Disco have now reopened, with Disco your only way to return to the trail head after your ride through Warrawee. We acknowledge it is not ideal to have these trails closed simultaneously, however due to the combination of wet weather, availability of materials and the approaching raptor breeding season, we have made the decision to close all the trails so we can complete the work before the end of the month. If we didnt the trails wouldnt get any attention until March 2021.

12.01.2022 The team at Bridge Pro Engineering have spent the day putting the finishing touches on the new bridge across the Mersey River. Combined with the ideal riding conditions forecast for this weekend, the Railton Express is our pick to get some exercise. #wildmersey #maintainsocialdistance

10.01.2022 The Wild Mersey aims to offer a great experience from when you arrive at the trailhead, to shredding the downhills, and all the way through to when you leave for home. But weve now taken that a step further with Kentish and Latrobe Councils purchasing a EC-HCCT helicopter to enable air transfers between different parts of the trail network. You can be flown between Laughing Gear and Green Hornet for the downhill action, or from Latrobe to Railton for a cross country experie...nce. Or if your quick ride has turned into a not-so-quick ride and youre phone just keeps ringing, we can rescue you too. This free complimentary service will be available once the trails have reopened.

06.01.2022 WARRAWEE TRAIL MAINTENANCE PROGRAM During the next month we will be undertaking some necessary trail maintenance works in Warrawee to ensure everything is safe and in the best condition possible. Unfortunately, this means some of the trails will be temporarily closed. ... The following outlines the schedule of works, but please note this may be impacted by wet weather. 1 JUNE 2020 4 June 2020 Some minor landscaping works will be undertaken to improve drainage and the amenity of the trailhead facilities. A couple of carparking spaces will be temporarily closed off as part of the works, however all trails will remain open. 8 JUNE 2020 30 June 2020 Next Level MTB will be refurbishing No Mersey, High Voltage and Laughing Gear. These trails have been a victim of their own success since opening and each trail will be closed off one at a time to enable the works to occur. A number of trees will also be removed on the three descent trails while those trails are closed. To access the trail network during this time ride along to Session Sauce at the end of Shale Road. 06.01.2022 In some exciting news in these uncertain times, Trailscapes will be back to build the final stage of the Wild Mersey after they were awarded the contract last week. Were working closely with the company around the impacts of the COVID-19 virus to ensure we follow the advice and protocols put in place by both Federal and Sate Governments. We are expecting there to be impacts to the schedule and once we know more will keep you posted.

05.01.2022 Today’s announcement is everyone’s favourite type of trail, a climb. UP START is the first climb into the Badgers Range and once the network is complete will give you multiple descent lines to choose from. 04.01.2022 TRAIL CLOSURE UPDATE Our trail fairies are making the most of the last few weeks of our maintenance period in Warrawee, and unfortunately this means we will have to temporarily close several trails. As of Wednesday 17 June, the following trails will be closed:... - Bee Line -tree removal (access the trails via Session Sauce) - Disco - tree removal - Off the Hook resurfacing - High Voltage general repairs We will endeavour to keep trails closed for as little time as possible, but given the weather forecast over the next week we expect there to be some delays. Each year we have a short window (March - June) to undertake any trail maintenance so we do not interfere with the mating season of our local raptors that nest in the area. (red lines show trails to be impacted by closures)

04.01.2022 The team from TrailScapes is well into the build of the final stage of the Wild Mersey. Stay tuned for news on when fresh trails will open If you haven't seen it already, check out the feature by Flow Mountain Bike when they were lucky enough to inspect the Sheffield trails.

01.01.2022 AUSTRALIA’S LONGEST PEDESTRIAN SUSPENSION BRIDGE SET FOR WILD MERSEY A 150m pedestrian suspension bridge, believed to be the longest in the southern hemisphere, is a step closer to being constructed across the Mersey River at Latrobe. Latrobe Council recently announced Bridge Pro Engineering as the successful tenderer to design Australia’s longest pedestrian suspension bridge. The aim is to enhance the Wild Mersey Mountain Bike experience and create an iconic tourist feature... in Latrobe. The next stage of the project is to prepare a draft design and in consultation with the Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service (PWS), undertake an environmental impact assessment to ensure the development does not negatively impact on any threatened or vulnerable flora and fauna species. Mayor Peter Freshney said Council has been developing the Wild Mersey Mountain Bike Trail project since 2015 and to have the opportunity to work with a Latrobe based company to design what will be an iconic piece of infrastructure that is a record for the southern hemisphere is really exciting. The draft plan is to create a 150m long bridge which would dwarf the current longest suspension bridge in Australia located at Northam in Western Australia. If approved, it is believed it would be the longest span pedestrian suspension bridge in the southern hemisphere. Managing Director of Bridge Pro Engineering Aaron Brimfield said It is not every day you get the opportunity to design such a challenging and important piece of infrastructure in your hometown. We’re looking forward to working with Latrobe Council and the Parks and Wildlife Service. Bridge Pro Engineering recognises the environmental sensitivity of the Warrawee Conservation Area and will apply best practice environmental management procedures so that our native species, such as Latrobe’s iconic platypus, is not impacted. Mayor Freshney said the long-term plan for Council has always been to construct a high-level bridge across the Mersey River that is not susceptible to the impact of flood events like that experienced in 2016.

01.01.2022 Get lost this weekend at the Wild Mersey. @flow_mtb @trailscapes
