25.01.2022 Congratulations to our year 12 graduating class of 2020!!! From being our first group of year 7 students, first cohort to complete the new senior and battled school through covid, our year 12s have finally made it!!! Well done to you all and best of luck for your future.

25.01.2022 Congratulations to Shelley DeRuyter, Head of Department - Science at William Ross SHS, who has received 2 nation-wide teaching awards from the NEiTA Foundation The NEiTA Award for Innovation in Online Teaching and The Terry O’Connell Regional and Remote Teachers’ Award. Our school held a live stream awards ceremony yesterday afternoon, with the following words from Allen Blewitt NEiTA Chairman summing up Shelley’s achievements: She has been amazing during the pandemic an...d moving online. Shelley has been instrumental in developing her school’s aquaculture program, which is linked to the local economy and university campuses in Townsville. To provide authenticity and relevance, she engages with the local Far North Queensland community and current research, to create a contemporary approach to her curriculum, which fits with industrial protocols. At the core of Shelley’s practice and program planning is the use of applied scientific method and enquiry based problem solving which focusses on relevant tasks. Shelley has clearly connected her school with local industry, academe and the community and is a worthy winner of the Terry O’Connell Regional and Remote Teachers Award. See more

22.01.2022 World-renown but unknown protest artist ‘Banksy’ appears to have paid a visit to William Ross recently. Masking their identity by surrounding themselves with a range of paper bags, year 10 Visual Art students experienced making stencils and tagging using a range of painting techniques inspired by the talented Banksy. Students are looking to enact change by protesting against war through their street art.
