21.01.2022 Looking for something to do on 1 March? If so head to Quorn for this great show

20.01.2022 It has been many years since the Wilmington Rodeo Club has paddocked the Carrieton horses. It was great to see an old tradition of bringing the horses down from a paddock in Horrocks Pass to the rodeo grounds in readiness for the rodeo- thanks to Kerry Modystach and Mick Batchelor who rode their horses.

20.01.2022 The Wilmington rodeo club would like to offer their condolences to the family of Barry Zander He was a valued member of the community. Barry has been a valued volunteer of the rodeo for over 10 years, he was the person 'up the top' doing the music arrangements and voice over and the committee will miss him immensely . RIP Barry (BAZZ)

18.01.2022 Looking to gain more skills in the saddle bronc and bareback then register to this school to be held in Lower light 14 and 15 March

18.01.2022 Just wondering if anyone took video of the opening of the rodeo this year We did a tribute to Kim Francis who passed away and his daughter wanted to know if there was any

18.01.2022 It is with a heavy heart that the Wilmington Rodeo Club regrettably advises that due to the complexities of organising an event due to COVID-19 and the ever changing circumstances that there will not be a rodeo in January 2021. This decision was not made lightly and hope that all our followers understand. We have set our date for the rodeo in 2022, so get geared up ready for it on the 29th January 2022. Everyone stay safe and we will see you on the other side.

18.01.2022 MEMBER FAREWELL | we are saddened by the passing of renowned horseman Dick White. A man who always had an affinity with horses, Dick rode horses to school, he t...rick rode on them, and the story goes that he began rough-riding when he was just 13. Rodeo road took Dick all over Australia and during his time he won nine state titles including the Carrieton Buck Jump Championships in 1960 and the ARRA Australian Steer Wrestling title in the same year. In 1959 at Carrieton Rodeo, Dick drew the notorious bucking horse, Cloudbuster, the ride was captured by Hoofs and Horns editor and photographer, the late Keith Stevens, and the iconic shot is acknowledged world-wide as one of the most spectacular rodeo photographs ever taken. In the mid 1960s Dick based himself at Morphetville, not far from the race course, where he started breaking-in and pre-training race horses for a number of trainers, including Bart Cummings, including some Melbourne Cup winners. In 1977, Dick, wife Janet and daughters Mary-Ann, Anita and Kate, moved to Globe Derby Park, and Dick started a new career, training and driving trotters. In 1979, Dick retired from rodeoing when he was 45 but he continued his association with all equine activities and donated trophies to the Peterborough Rodeo 2nd Division Saddle Bronc and the Dick White Open Saddle Bronc trophy at the Carrieton Rodeo. He had a strong involvement with the Marrabel Rodeo too. In 2014 Dick created his own award recognising the unsung volunteers of rodeo - the Dick White Service to Rodeo in SA award. Dick presented the first of these in December that year, and since then five more volunteers have received this award. Dick was well known and highly regarded Australia-wide and will be sadly missed by his immediate family and friends. Our condolences go out to Dick’s family, friends and community, happy trails old cowboy. NOTE - head to the APRA website to read Dick's story in full. #australianprorodeoassociation Carrieton Rodeo Marrabel Rodeo Peterborough S.A. Rodeo See more

14.01.2022 Well it’s official.... after last nights committee meeting, it was unanimously agreed that Kapunda Rodeo 2020 will not go ahead. At this stage we’re reviewing t...he feasibility of holding the rodeo early next year.... obviously at the mercy of SA Health and their recommendations. HOWEVER...... watch this space closely as we work to bring you a substitute event on the 21st of November. It’ll be with reduced numbers to keep it Covid safe..... I guess it’s our way to thank you guys for all the support over the years. Details to follow but I can say.... there will be an 8 second ride or two involved. Keep the date free and we should be in a position to announce more details of the event after we meet in a fortnight. As always.... please share to get the word out. Fab. See more
