24.01.2022 While we head into fire season, don't forget working smoke alarms are necessary for all Victorian households, all year round. We heard from Greg, a member from ...Selby Fire Brigade (CFA) who is hearing impaired and has a special system installed to ensure they can make a safe escape if a fire occurs in their home. 22.01.2022 A little like waking sleeping giants from their slumber, "Jerry", "Marty", "Delilah" and "Elsie", the Erickson S-64 Air Crane helicopters, have now arrived int...o #Australia after their long voyage from #Greece aboard the BBC Chartering ship "BBC Leda". They join "Georgia Peach" and "Gypsy Lady" who are already in country. The arrivals will be established on the port at Geelong, Victoria prior to making their way to their operating bases in time for their contract starts during December in #Victoria, #SouthAustralia and #NewSouthWales. A MAMMOTH amount of work and planning has gone into getting the aircraft here this COVID impacted year, but the teams at Kestrel and Erickson Incorporated are getting the job done. Now to the job of fighting fires from the air and keeping #Australian communities safe! A huge thanks to Dave Soda from Aviation Spotters Online for the images! 22.01.2022 Last year CFA members across the State attended 63 road accidents on the Queens Birthday Long Weekend, some of which were fatal ! If your travelling this weekend take is easy on the roads and if you come across emergency services remember to slow to 40klm.

21.01.2022 Giving accurate location information when you call 000 can make a huge difference to the time it takes for emergency services to get to you. "Emergency +" is an app for your phone that gives you an address if you are unsure where you are, and at the touch of a button on your screen, allows you to call 000, SES or the police ( non urgent calls). Make it easier for us to get to you faster by giving accurate location information. ... It could save a life. See more

20.01.2022 Roadsides are important for safety, Roadside management involves a wide range of issues and organisations. One important issue is roadside fire management. Planned burning is conducted by CFA brigades on behalf of and at the request of private land owners or managers of other reserves such as roads, rail corridors, council reserves and water authority land. Each year Winchelsea Brigade and some Neighbouring Brigades Conduct Roadside burns in and around the township of Winch...elsea. This helps with preparing an area we feel could benefit from having a fire break for the fire season. its also a fantastic way of training and is a valuable tool for learning about fire and its behaviour, it also gives new members a chance to learn about fire and gain experience in a controlled manner. Thankyou to Highton, Grovedale, Connewarre, Freshwater Creek, Torquay, Wurdale, CFA Vegetation management and our own brigade for all the assistance today. Thankyou also to the foxesden for our lunch packs today. Grovedale CFA Freshwater Creek CFA Torquay Fire Brigade Highton Fire Brigade Wurdale Fire Brigade Connewarre Fire Brigade See more

19.01.2022 Spontaneous ignition is the leading cause of haystack fire in Victoria, and just one damp bale is enough to ignite a haystack. There are a number of things you ...can do to minimise the likelihood of a haystack fire starting on your property, including: Make sure hay is well cured before bailing Know the history of the hay you purchase Keep haystacks to a limited size Monitor moisture and temperature of your hay regularly Watch for unusual odours - such as pipe tobacco, caramel, burning or musty smells. Keep your haystacks safe as the weather starts to warm

19.01.2022 Timely Reminder to look around your surroundings before walking or in this case parking your car.

16.01.2022 Did you know most fatal fires start at night and the smell of smoke may not wake you up? For the safety of you and your loved ones install smoke alarms in all living and sleeping areas and ensure they are interconnected so when one alarm activates, they all sound.

15.01.2022 It’s important to make time to ask are you OK? By giving someone your time and the opportunity to share what they’re feeling, you’re giving that person something invaluable. A conversation can help someone who is struggling feel a sense of connection and belonging. By encouraging them to access appropriate support before they’re in crisis your conversation could change their life.... It’s important you look out for changes and signs, no matter how small that could indicate someone needs extra support and if you spot the signs you need to ask R U OK? https://www.ruok.org.au

15.01.2022 Now is the time to start preparing your property for Fire Season. We have three small jobs you can do this weekend*. *Check current COVID restrictions for your area on the DHHS website. www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/coronavirus

15.01.2022 It’s important to check the weather before burning off, not just the day of your burn but the days thereafter and to make sure your burn is properly exti...nguished. Yesterday's fire at Main Ridge is one of several that are crews have recently attended after windy conditions caused burn-offs to flare up several days and even weeks after the original burn-off. Make sure you always register your burn-off with ESTA, on 1800 668 511 Let your neighbours know you are burning off Ensure it is always supervised by an adult Ben Wain - Main Ridge Fire 7 September

11.01.2022 Its Spring now it’s time to prepare your property for the fire danger period Landowners and tenants should be preparing their properties well before the start of the Fire Danger Period. A lot of things can be done in the garden and around the home to improve the chances of surviving the impact of a bushfire or fast moving grassfire. Now is the time to clean up leaves, twigs, bark and long grass around the home and farm properties as fires cannot be lit in the open air durin...g the Fire Danger Period without a written permit from CFA or a Municipal Fire Prevention Officer. During the pre- Fire Danger Period clean up, if you plan to burn those piles of fallen branches, bark and leaves, call the VicFire Burn-off notification line on 1800 668 511 to avoid an unnecessary fire brigade callout. Once the Fire Danger Period has been declared in your municipality by CFA, lighting a fire in the open without a permit can attract a penalty of $17,000 and 12 months imprisonment. There are even greater restrictions for Total Fire Ban days due to the greater risk of fire. To view or download the Can I or Can’t I brochure, go to the CFA website www.cfa.vic.gov.au or call 1800 226 226 See more
