24.01.2022 Finished this one this week. 20' D pattern comet on 45' tower. 60' of 5" casing, 4 1/4" drawplunger pump. All new rods and major overhaul on the head. Should be good for another 50 years with regular oiling.

22.01.2022 Windy days mean early starts to do the job.

17.01.2022 Back over the cape today to put a reconditioned head back on an old 6' Southern Cross mill. Looks good with a splash of paint!

16.01.2022 Wasn't sure it would fit, we got it all on. Three complete mills on the one truck

16.01.2022 Found this one the other day.

15.01.2022 Another one done. Just need to plumb it up and we're all good.

14.01.2022 Working on this one now. Another 20' D pattern Comet recondition, pull the submersible pump out, put in around 100' of 5" casing with 4 1/4" drawplunger pump, stand the tower and put the head and tail on. Should be done by tomorrow night....we hope....the boys doing overtime getting a couple of 1 1/2" timber rods replaced so they can get home earlier.

12.01.2022 This project has been a long time coming. Very happy clients to see this going up. Its a second hand tank stand relocated in top of a ridge just behind the house, with the 1200gallon tank on top it will do away with the pressure pump and allow the bore pump to be fully automatic, filling the tank before they run out of water.

11.01.2022 Found this old timer today!

10.01.2022 This is the result of lack of maintenance. The mill stopped pumping because the swivel wore out completely and broke off the bottom of the crosshead. 16' D pattern Comet. The old adage about a stitch in time saves nine is so true in this case. Regular maintenance is crucial to any machinery, and machinery that provides livestock water is probably one of the most important on any property.

09.01.2022 Down and ready to shift. RF, 17' mill head on the trailer to replace damaged one.

07.01.2022 I've walked across this on a Friday night when the lovely people at the dealership refused to return my car to me and demanded their loaner be returned. Just on dark, on a Friday night, I was shitting bricks, walking on the guide rail almost so I wouldn't be killed.

06.01.2022 An old mill, with family history for the client. Was in sad condition. Replaced the head, straightened a few sail, replaced some missing sails and we're on our way.

04.01.2022 Something different. Ornamental mill in town. Client very happy to have this up and spinning where he can see it. The baby of the Southern Cross range, 6 foot fan on 20 foot tower, complete with "bore".

04.01.2022 Replaced this head yesterday. 8' Yellowtail. Didn't have all the right gear so we lifted up the head by hand, and put the tail on without a gin pole at all. Then today, did the same job on a Southern Cross 8'. I went to the trouble of making up the gin pole mounts today.... Had to. My offsider would have slapped me for even suggesting it! See more

02.01.2022 Little job we did today. A storm had blown the wheel off the old mill, so it now has a new secondhand head with the better wheel with more blades. Happy campers.
