23.01.2022 Alcohol makes other people less tedious, and food less bland, and can help provide what the Greeks called entheos, or the slight buzz of inspiration when reading or writing. The only worthwhile miracle in the New Testamentthe transmutation of water into wine. Christopher Hitchens, Hitch-22: A Memoir Spread Christmas cheer this year with wine, wine in the stockings, under the tree and upon your dining table.

23.01.2022 Whose interested in a wine party? I need numbers and a location. I am thinking one event in Melbourne, one in Brisbane and possibly 2 or 3 across Sydney. I want to show some wines and impress you and your friends with some amazing vintage wines. What you need to do is either reply here or PM me where and how many people you want to impress. There is a kicker you will help me with the location. However I will reward you for it accordingly. ... TWC

20.01.2022 A piece of Australian vinous history. When we here at the Wine Consultant acquired this 1954 Seppelt Chalambar we began a quest for knowledge. What did we find? This wine is the wine child of Colin Preece who was responsible for the changes in the 50's which have made Seppelt the great Australian winery it is today. Unfortunately records for the early wines are scarce. Seppelt believed the 1953 to be the first Chalambar made but our research uncovered tasting notes written by... Len Evans referring to the brilliance of the 1952 Chalambar. At the auctions pre 1990 Chalambar is rarely sold with many vintages having never reached the auctions of the internet era. Seppelt Chalambar has kept a strong following for over 60 years now. While most wine labels of the 50's were discontinued long ago Seppelt Chalambar lives on as one of Australia's classics, along side Wynns Cabernet (originally with a white label, not black) and Penfolds Grange, St Henri, Bin 28. What excites us most about this bottle is its scarcity. The investment craze of the 2000's saw investors pump up the price of historic Penfolds and Wynns which turned most of these wines into collectors items, never to be drunk, easily found. Today it is not too difficult for us to find Penfolds wines from the 50's. Alternatively, the scarcity of 50's Chalambar saw that none were sold during the investment boom and the price remained modest. For history buffs, wine buys don't get much better than this 1954 Seppelt Chalambar 375ml.

19.01.2022 Can anyone identify these 3?

15.01.2022 Whenever someone says Pinot Noir I scream AGHHHHH! A man of body, power and plums be I. Forever the lover of warm climate Shiraz and ferocious Cabernet. Today though I prance, I dance, with glee. There is 1 pinot noir for me. This pinot noir never fails to make me salivate at its mention, go weak at the knees as it caresses my tongue. Paringa Estate! A small Mornington Peninsula winery making big, luscious pinots with never ending length. Reminiscent of the song that never ends, it just goes on and on my friends... Some people, started drinking it... you get the picture. 2010 Paringa Estate "Estate" pinot noir, BUY IT, TRY IT, fall in love with it. You may just find yourself engaged.

14.01.2022 We are often asked which birth year wines to buy for people to drink with their children when they turn 18. With out fail, Wynns black label Cabernet is always on the list of recommended wines. Today we are drinking the 1998 and 2004. At 10 years of age the 2004 is incredibly rich, youthful and smooth. The 1998 at 16 years of age is coasting comfortably through its maturity and will still be elegant, smooth and savoury in another 10 years time. Wynns consistently makes black labels that will last 20 years or more and it is often found for below $30 a bottle. Incredible.
