23.01.2022 Another foray to The Italian Place, this time to the Providore and Bottega for a session on Italian wines, "Italy In a Glass, Vol. 1". This was a wine tasting, ...with matching food, hosted by The Italian Place's sommelier Maria Navarrete and Melbourne wine educator Jenny Polack, aka the Wine Whitch. It was all very professional: two long tables for 25 people, set out with five varieties of Italian wine, a plate of food each from The Italian Place providore (cheese, cured meats, olives) to match the wines, accompanied by fresh bread and Morella olive oil, and a 14-page booklet describing each wine and the region in Italy from whence it came. While not all the wines were to my group's taste (I liked the Ponte NV Prosecco DOC Extra Dry best), we enjoyed the food and the explanation of pairing what food with what wine and details of Italy's wine regions. We were also given an extra digestif, Braulio amaro alpino, to finish off. Then my group went on to Bentspoke, around the corner, for a quick beer. A very pleasant way to spend a Saturday afternoon.
