24.01.2022 *** Sixty Second Swirl *** Tonight’s offering is from Corduroy Wines. Winemaker - Phil Le Messurier - is a judge at the Australian Cool Climate Wine Show here in Murrumbateman, and is clearly a master of his craft. The 2019 Semillon Chardonnay is of brilliant straw in colour with freshly cut white and yellow peach and a waft of dried mango and vanilla on the nose. ... The palate is smooth, almost creamy with luscious stone fruit flavours and lively, lingering acid. First class stuff this. Will do superbly with the roast pork and crackling rolls.

23.01.2022 Last night, I ran a Wine & Trivia Challenge for a political fund raising event for a former colleague. 80 people attended the event and all enjoyed the format of the evening - 10 wines served "blind", wine options questions with a view of entertaining education and rounds of trivia questions. In these COVID times, we also used an online Trivia application for participant interaction.... A great night.

23.01.2022 The next instalment of the Sixty Sexond Swirl in the Yass Valley Times. The Shiraz Viognier from John and Marina Sekoranja is a delicious drop...get amongst it peeps....

22.01.2022 *** Sixty Second Swirl *** Being in ISO is no excuse for not drinking well. And tonight is a flag-at-full-mast scenario. The Murrumbateman Wine Region produces some most excellent Cabernets and tonight’s offering - the Shaw Estate Merriman Cabernet 2016 - is a leading example. ... In the nose, this wine is loaded with blueberries and blackberries with violets and dried herbs and spice. On the palate, there’s full flavoured, rich and ripe fruit with fine tannins and a long and lingering mouthfeel. This is a knockout wine and went supremely with the grilled sirloin steak with mushroom sauce. This is a cracking cool climate Cabernet. Get some!

18.01.2022 Another great evening of Fabulous Food, Wonderful Wine and Great Company at the Murrumbateman Country Inn. Last night we held the third dinner in the Murrumbateman Region Wine Dinner Series with Murrumbateman Winery. Each of the wines complimented the specially designed menu and the feedback of the whole experience from the punters has been very positive. ... Thanks to those who attended and a very special thanks to Dave and Chris Laird for providing such a great venue, Chef Conway for the great food and Bob Makin and Kerry from Murrumbateman Winery for the wines and bringing their Cellar Door to us. Next wine dinner is in June and will be with Eden Road Wines.

16.01.2022 Another great wine from the Yass Valley region appears as the subject of the Sixty Second Swirl in last week's Yass Valley Times....

16.01.2022 Good Things to Know....

15.01.2022 Getting our wine groove back...

15.01.2022 The first Sixty Second Swirl for the Yass Valley Times has hit the press. This week it’s the Shaw Wines Cabernet 2017 - who said no good Cabernet comes from Canberra?!

14.01.2022 *** Sixty Second Swirl *** Tonight’s offering is from the team at Eden Road Wines in a Murrumbateman. These guys are a class act at producing regionally distinctive wines - real sense of place stuff. The 2014 Gundagai Cabernet is a silky drop loaded with aromas of blackcurrants and blackberries with a wandering whiff of white pepper and dried sage. ... In the mouth, the wine is still a little taught with lovely bright blue fruit characters and lingering mouthfeel. This top drop goes very nicely with seared red protein.

11.01.2022 Next edition of the Yass Valley Times Sixty Second Swirl is out and this week we take a peek at Bobbie Makin’s Ripper Rizza....

10.01.2022 *** Sixty Second Swirl *** On the inaugural Aussie Shiraz Day, some thought went into the wine on the dinner table tonight. The 2010 Molly Dooker McLaren Vale Shiraz proved to be a sensational choice with the 7 hour slow braised beef cheeks. 2010 is one of the best vintages in recent memory and this is a quality producer who gets the very best out of their offerings. ... Age has suited this wine well, with deep, dark and ripe blackberry compote flavours with a rich and mellow palate. Totally sublime drinking. The beef cheeks were rich and unctuous and the wine just elevated the dish. Shiraz Day needs to be more than once a year - it is at Chateau Lello #ShirazWineDay

08.01.2022 *** Sixty Second Swirl *** Ricky Punter Ponting was uncompromising on the cricket field as both a prolific run scorer and captain of the Australian Cricket Team. Now, he’s released a range of wines under the Ponting brand, made by Ben Riggs, an uncompromising winemaker in his own right. The 2018 Ponting Close of Play Cabernet from Langhorne Creek, is loaded with black currants and rich, ripe plums with hints of eucalyptus mintiness. ... The palate is rich and ripe with a medium body, well balanced and a lingering finish. Went very well with the sirloin steak for dinner. Well done Punter, another bat raised to the crowd with this delicious drop.

05.01.2022 Look Out! It seems that today is "International Grenache Day". Originally from Spain, the grenache grape has really found it's happy home here in Australia. Often found buddying up with Shiraz and Mataro/Mourvedre in the "GSM" blend, grenache varietal wines are medium bodied with red fruit flavours and hints of spice - top notch stuff for our Aussie lifestyle. Get amongst one today!... (Thanks to WineFolly for the image)

05.01.2022 We all love the odd taco, but how's this effort by Taco Bell - a crispy taco with their own Jala-Pinot Noir. I'd be up for this any day of the week :-)

04.01.2022 Drinking it, Writing it, Living it....
