25.01.2022 Do you know a young person who may be interested in this? Many of our teens and young people have an invested and active interest in climate change. Council welcomes their input. Please share.

25.01.2022 WOOSH The last three days have seen the children involved in the process of creating an Acknowledgment of Country. An Acknowledgment that they feel reflects them being respectful for the use of the land that they occupy while at WOOSH. The children have been involved in whole group discussions, firstly discussing the difference between an Acknowledgement and a Welcome and then engaged in choosing the words, the order and voting upon what they felt best reflected them. I am ...extremely impressed with the way the children have embarked upon this task. They have brought their own knowledge, their own ideas and showed enthusiasm for not only the creating of our Acknowledgement but in the using of it, each day at WOOSH. They showed great respect and maturity. We have also been enjoying some stories from the Dreamtime with one child suggesting today we enjoyed, How the Kangaroo got it’s pouch. Some children have also enjoyed colouring a template of this years NAIDOC theme poster, Always Was, Always will be. Today, the children had much to share with us about Remembrance Day discussions had in class. Some chose to join Debbie and make beautiful poppies. Debbie makes amazing tissue paper flowers. Tomorrow we have more books to share and we begin to put our Acknowledgment into practice. See more

25.01.2022 Wingecarribee Children's Services would like to acknowledge National Sorry Day this day 26th May. Our action is to encourage children to be strong and confident and believe in themselves, to be connected to their culture and understanding and respectful of the culture of others. Our hope is to nurture in this next generation an innate responsibility and connection to the land and people they live among.

25.01.2022 Happy New Year from the Children’s Service’s Team! We look forward to establishing and strengthening relationships with our WOOSH and Family Day Care families Photo from Finding Joy....

23.01.2022 Yesterday, Councils Draft Playspace Strategy went on Public Exhibition after Councillors unanimously endorsed the exhibition at its meeting of 10 June 2020. In late 2017 and early 2018 over 380 residents shared their thoughts about preferences for playgrounds and more in a survey. This information was carefully considered and then all existing playspaces were assessed using the Playable Space Quality Assessment Tool. The information gathered has been used to prepare the now... publicly exhibited Draft Playspace Strategy, with feedback sought by 10 July 2020. We would like to reach out to as many of our Community as possible so please feel free to share the links below. The community can visit www.yoursaywingecarribee.com.au/play to view the draft Strategy and make an online submission. Submissions can also be emailed to [email protected] or posted to Wingecarribee Shire Council, PO Box 141 Moss Vale 2577. All submissions must be received by 4.30 pm Friday 10 July 2020.

22.01.2022 Dear Families Just a quick note to touch base with you all as we continue to travel down the unchartered waters known as COVID -19. As we continue to see social restrictions reduced, schools reopen and people returning to their workplace we are also experiencing an increase in the number of children and families returning to care. Thank you for having timely conversations with your Educator about your care requirements and ways for managing the transition back to care, where... applicable. We are very grateful for the care and respect that you have shown our educators and service and are hopeful that through the diligence that our community has maintained we will continue to move forward .. even if it is a new sort of normal! Educators will continue to manage and plan for stringent hygiene and infection control measures and families are reminded to keep their children away from care if they are showing any signs of illness. The health authorities are encouraging all child care staff and visitors attending child care services, including parents to have the annual flu vaccine. I know there are many little excited people returning to school and care and I can assure you that staff and educators are feeling the same. Happy to be returning to providing education and care to your precious children.

22.01.2022 Not just Pumpkin Soup.... At Cheryls FDC the Children love to cook, todays activity was born from yesterdays play in the fruit and vegetable shop. Cooking experiences are packed full of fun and educational learning opportunities. Conversations can be had around maths skills such as quantity and time as well as social skills such as turn taking and inclusion. Another priceless opportunity is the self value children get from being seen as capable when encouraged and supported to use real life skills like cutting with a knife. There is a sense of achievement to be felt when taking a few different ingredients and transforming them into something new to taste and sharing it as a meal amongst friends.

18.01.2022 Message from the Australian Government... Dear Families If you received Child Care Subsidy (CCS) for 2018-19, you must confirm your income with Centrelink. This includes CCS paid directly to you and CCS paid on your behalf to a child care provider.... Most parents have already confirmed their income, but if you havent, do it now. If you dont confirm your 2018-19 income by 30 June 2020, your CCS will stop from 13 July 2020. To confirm your income with Centrelink, you and your partner need to either: lodge your tax returns with the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) complete an Advise non-lodgement of tax return with Centrelink, if you dont need to lodge a tax return. You complete the Advise non-lodgement of tax return in your Centrelink online account through myGov or your Express Plus Centrelink mobile app. If youve already confirmed your family income for 2018-19, theres nothing else you need to do. Find out more about Child Care Subsidy on the Services Australia website.

18.01.2022 WOOSH - Vacation Care A very busy morning today. We received another visit from Councils Waste Education Officer, Phoebe, who today made wax wraps with each child. A massive effort. Thank you Phoebe. Debbie made jam drop biscuits with the children, they were very yummy. I managed to taste test one, on my way out after lunch. We did some housekeeping and gave all the home corner plastic food and utensils a bath and a dry in the beauty sun. The dinosaurs were also going to get a bath. Debbie spent about an hour with the children playing with bubbles, such a great day for them, sunshine and a slight breeze. Bubbles were drifting and glistening all around us. Gail was going to spend more time doing embroidery this afternoon. Tomorrow, the children are set to enjoy, nut free banana splits, more embroidery and a movie in the afternoon. Anne

18.01.2022 Have you seen this gorgeous illustration from Australian author and illustrator of childrens books May Gibbs? Produced in 1919 as a health poster for the Spanish Flu it promotes the importance of personal protection.

17.01.2022 Our very own Samantha King, Little Seedlings FDC was recognised on the ABC Kids Community platform for her very creative Bluey sensory play set up. Check out the full article on the link below...

17.01.2022 Anna has been teaching the children about Fire Safety and the important role of Fire Fighters, as an extension of this learning and to coincide with one of their regular Emergency Evacuation Drills, they read the story "The Fire Engine. Following this they worked together to construct a collage of the story on the felt board, they collected and arranged felt story pieces, toys, materials and recyclables. Reading stories and retelling the story in this way offers children the opportunity to engage with text and to make meaning of what they have heard.

15.01.2022 Annas Family Day Care Over the past two weeks we have worked and played with rainbows and the beautiful colours they radiate. Last week we used nature to collect all the colours of the rainbow in the garden. Today we used all these collected items to make a rainbow. Enhancing childrens curiosity and creativity

15.01.2022 NAIDOC celebrations at Cheryl's Family Day Care continue today with lots of discussion about the traditions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, in particular their connection to the land and their ability to hunt and forage for Bush Tucker. Some of the children wanted to know why they didn't just go to the supermarket which presented opportunity for conversation. The children were amazed to hear about how honey can be extracted from ants. Children are really enjoying the dream time stories.

14.01.2022 See what Sam and the children at Little Seedlings FDC have been up to this week. Lest we forget . An invitation to play, making Poppy’s. All ready for story time with Luke Carroll. NAIDOC at NCIE. Always Was, Always Will Be.... An afternoon painting and learning about Aboriginal symbols. While out on a walk in the local community we collected some bush rock. The following day we crushed the rock and mixed with water. Using it to finger paint some symbols used in Indigenous art and storytelling.

13.01.2022 Important information for families.

12.01.2022 WOOSH Recently Julie had a child ask her the ‘big’ question, Why are we here? She didn’t mean at OOSH, but ‘here’. We are very fortunate to have Julie on staff and her librarian expertise, she knew just the book that may help answer this child’s question. ... Today, Julie read The boy on the page’ by Peter Carnavas. Afterwards we asked the children, Why are we here? We had a range of answers from to live, to love, to entertain others, help the homeless, because mum and dad are at work and from the child with the original question, to look after the world. I think the world is in very safe hands. Anne

10.01.2022 Today at Cheryl’s FDC the children created music using different instruments. They discussed and explored the concept of identifying animal tracks and experimented drawing their own tracks in the sand.

10.01.2022 Its World Bee Day.... what better opportunity to talk to children about the importance of bees

09.01.2022 From Anna’s FDC- Today we revisited the dream time story 'Warnayarra the Rainbow Snake’. The story is compiled with wonderful illustrations from the senior boys class, Lajamanu school, a bilingual school where Aboriginal children are taught to read and write their own language, Walpriri. Each depiction of the snake is different. I urged children to do the same, we painted our own Warnayarra snake. Children had the option of choosing from a variety of colours. We listened to dream time compositions where children could hear and make special mention of the music sticks. We also talked about the didgeridoo. I plan to explore this music further with the children.

08.01.2022 A moment to reflect... In recognition of Remembrance Day Cheryl and the children in Family Day Care today made Poppy's. Lest We Forget

08.01.2022 Have you seen our NEW Family Day Care Logo?

07.01.2022 MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE From our Children’s Services family to yours, wishing you all a safe and happy festive season together with those that mean so much to you, in spirit if not in person xo

07.01.2022 Last week some of the children at Cheryls Family Day Care planted seeds. Cheryl loves her garden and her enthusiasm benefits the children as she regularly programs experiences that teach children about the natural environment and sustainability. They wrapped the seeds in toilet paper and wet them before putting them in the ground as Cheryl finds this helps the children to carefully space each seed. They were very excited returning this week to see the seeds had sprouted

06.01.2022 Not only is tomorrow the first day of spring but its the first day back from a long period of leave for Family Day Care Educator Nicole of Tumble House FDC. Youve been greatly missed and we warmly welcome your return

06.01.2022 From Nicole; owner and Educator of Tumble House Family Day Care, Bowral. I recently discovered a dreaming story that related to the Gundangara Dreamtime - known as Gunyungalung "times far past". It's the story of an epic battle between a rainbow serpert and a quoll, carving out the landscape where the Wingecarribee and Wollondilly Rivers meet and the area now covered by Warragamba Dam.... After hearing the story, Saskia and Harry decided they wanted to choose the stones and draw the quoll and the rainbow serpent themselves. I drew the rock and the river. Once we'd finished, I retold the story. Harry used the stones straight after to re imagine the story with a different outcome.

05.01.2022 With the COVID -19 outbreak gaining momentum in Victoria it is important that as an Education and Service we remain vigilant in maintaining health and safety procedures in our care environments. We are delighted to have nearly all our children back in care and are very grateful to our families for your understanding and consideration in managing and accommodating our Service and individual Educators hygiene and COVID safe practices. If you have travelled to or from Victoria... in the last 14 days or have family members/friends staying with you who are from Victoria or returning from travelling in Victoria, then it is important that you/they self isolate for a minimum of 14 days. This is important to ensure that community infection rates are minimised. Self-isolation means staying within your household for a 14 day period with exceptions outlined by NSW Health such as medical care, legal obligations, providing an essential service or an emergency situation. CCS and payment of gap fees will be resuming on Monday 13 July 2020. Families self isolating, waiting on COVID results or children who are unwell have 42 allowable absences for the 2020/21, with additional absences available under certain conditions. For more information please visit https://www.health.nsw.gov.au//Pages/interstate-travel.aspx If you have concerns please discuss these with your Educator or Service Staff or contact the Coordination Unit on 48 612 866.

04.01.2022 Welcome Spring

04.01.2022 This week is National Family Day Care week. If you are a past or a present FDC family wed love for you to comment below on what you value about Family Day Care.

04.01.2022 NAIDOC week celebrations this year have been postponed until November. However, a couple of our educators partnered with Council and conducted their own celebrations in their own Services. Toris children had great fun engaging in the NAIDOC activities that Council provided. We decorated boomerangs using the earthy colours of the traditional Aborigines by dotting red, black, yellow and white paint. This activity created lots of conversation and discussion about aboriginal ...art and mediums. Next we are going to try grinding up sandstone, clay and ash - creating similar colours for our next creative experience. The damper making was lots of fun and delicious. Lots of skills developed and practised in cutting and buttering. Best bit was in the eating and sharing with our families. Toris FDC NAIDOC activities are to form a part of a bigger social media canvas of how other local Wingecarribee Children engage and celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. By engaging in activities like this we open up conversations for discussion and encourage all our children to value the richness of our traditional owners of our land. See more

04.01.2022 We would like to say a big congratulations to Cheryl Yates on a well deserved nomination for Family Day Care Educator of the year. Cheryl has been a dedicated Educator with us for almost 25 years.

01.01.2022 Dear Families, Despite the NSW Government announcing a relaxation on some of the social distancing rules, the consequences and impact of COVID-19 still remain. Our Childrens Services remain open, however we want to remind you all that our Educators/staff, as essential workers, are still in a vulnerable position, as are the children of essential workers who have no other option but to send their children to care. We encourage you to carefully consider sending your children ...into a care environment unless you are working or there are extenuating circumstances and you have no other alternative. It is important that we all remain vigilant, abide by the social rules and respect the extra measures our Educators/staff have implemented to ensure we all stay safe and healthy at this difficult time. As they saythis too shall pass! We all look forward to when life can return to some sort of normal. Your support is most appreciated.

01.01.2022 Today marks the first ever OOSH Educator Day. Our WOOSH staff are an amazing group of exceptional people who provide dedicated, safe, nurturing education and care to many families in the Mittagong area. Pandemic or no pandemic they are there putting the needs of children and their families first. Thank you for the important role you all play. Wingecarribee Childrens Services is grateful for all you do!
