25.01.2022 Congratulations to Anja on her appointment as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Officer on the University of Adelaide Student Representative Council!

25.01.2022 Grace, a young Gudang and Upai Purri women, started her Bachelor of Law and International Relations at The University of Adelaide in 2019. As a commencing second year student and alumni of the Karnkanthi Indigenous Education Program, Grace has some tips and tricks for first year students about the transition from high school to University. First year is so fun and my first tip is to get involved. The University offers so many opportunities for you to get comfortable with the... campus, lifestyle and new people you meet. This helps a lot in the (many) moments when you can get overwhelmed. Dont view your studies as just that, it is now your lifestyle and it is going towards your future. One tip I wish I realised last year was that if youre completing the readings, going to every lecture and seminar and still dont understand a concept after you have tried really hard, dont feel overwhelmed and ask for help. If you do the work it all falls into place as the semester goes on. See more

This is a special time to celebrate and empower our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, as well as recognise and learn about the critical role that family, community, country and culture play in their development. The theme for 2020 is, We are the Elders of tomorrow, hear our voice. 23.01.2022 Rebecca, a young Kokatha women from Ceduna, started in a Bachelor of Engineering (Structural and Architectural) at The University of Adelaide in 2020 and has now since transferred into a Bachelor of Health and Medical Sciences (Advanced) in Semester 2. As an alumni of the Karnkanthi Indigenous Education Program, a Wirltu Yarlu student ambassador and research cadet, Rebecca has some tips for commencing and existing students. Given the current climate, University has been diff...erent, and some may find it daunting. Upholding motivation during an online mode of study can be very difficult for some (even I have struggled with this!) But my tip is to be organised. Whether that be noting all assignment, test etc. dates in your calendar or diary, planning your week in advance, or coming up with a study routine do it! Trust me, falling behind in lectures or content, or realising how busy your next few weeks or month is with the due dates of assignments, quizzes etc. can be an overwhelming feeling, but just learn what does and does not work for you - everyone is different and the best way to learn is from our mistakes .
