23.01.2022 Great day in the garden today. Lots of lovely volunteers helping build wicking beds, planting on cuttings and seedlings and generally y helping out. The fence is coming along and should be completed in the next few weeks, with more panels and posts arriving this week.

23.01.2022 Sunday update: Hi all, weather just to unpredictable to risk it. Unless it completely clears this afternoon we won't risk it.

20.01.2022 Hi All, just a reminder we are on-site every Sunday, weather permitting, from 10am till mid afternoon. We have shade shelters but will not work in electrical storms or cyclonic conditions. We are starting to run workshops, the first being Nov 1st on bale bed gardening with 4 workshops in total. This one is specifically for seniors but we'll need volunteers to assist.

20.01.2022 Hi All, don't forget we have an open page on FB. If you can't find it message me direct.

19.01.2022 Sunday volunteer session. Starting at 11am. Mainly planting, weeding etc. Weather should be ok most of the day. 10 Neville Drive Wanneroo, down the path behind the kindy, next to the playground.

19.01.2022 Hi All, just a heads up we are taking a hiatus for the holidays to give everyone a break. Core committee will still be doing maintenance for a couple of hours o...n the Sundays but no working bees. This will give us a chance to catch up on garden planning etc. Have a great holiday and new years, see you all in 2021. We'll be open to the public again on Sunday Jan 10th, 2021 See more

19.01.2022 No. These are not pickled eggs. These are homegrown, unwashed eggs stored in lime water. The lime water fills in all the pores of the egg and encases them in a ...shell of "glass". Water glassed eggs can last stored at room temperature like this for up to 2 years. This method of preserving raw eggs has been used since the 1800s and was common even into the 1940s and 50s. When refrigerators became a standard kitchen appliance, water glassing almost became a lost art. You cannot use commercial eggs for this because they have all had the protective coating (bloom) washed off the shell and will quickly go bad. I recently scrambled up 18 eggs that had been stored in lime water for 7 months on an unrefrigerated cupboard shelf. They tasted perfectly fresh (although the yoke seemed a bit thinner than fresh eggs). Anyhow, if you have an abundance of fresh, unwashed eggs, you might want to try putting some away for later. The ratio is one ounce (by weight) of lime (calcium hydroxide) to one quart of water. Calcium hydroxide is a completely natural, organic ingredient, although the powder is very fine and may irritate your lungs if you breathe it in. You can find pickling lime (see picture) wherever canning supplies are sold. The lime water also quickly dried out the skin on my hands and I had to apply lotion to get them back to normal. The jars do not need to be sealed in any way, other than to keep the water clean. If you can't drink your culinary tap water, use filtered water. When you do use the eggs, be sure to rinse them thoroughly before you crack them or they will taste like lime. FYI: a gallon size container will store about 40 eggs. It can be plastic or glass and should be covered with some sort of lid to keep out dust and bugs. Lime is also known as calcium hydroxide or hydrated lime. You can buy it in 50 pound bags in the masonry section of the hardware store, or in 1 pound bags in the canning section of the grocery store....often labeled as "pickling lime". 18.01.2022 Hi All, another big day today. We need as many volunteers on site as possible. There's a lot happening and with winning the grants and other material donations ...we need to get everything in place. It won't be l9ng now before the garden is something to be really proud of and also a place people will want to hang out in for bbq's and gatherings when we aren't working. Starting at 10am, I hope we see all of you soon. See more

16.01.2022 Sunday cancelled due to storms. Sorry the risk of lightning strike makes it unsafe.

13.01.2022 Hi All, next 2 weekends we are going to need as many people as we can get. The kindy is ready to lay the concrete in there areas and we need to relocate the sheds. Both should be able to be picked up and carried as one piece with enough people. One shed is only shifting a few feet. Please ask friends and family if they could give us even one day, many hands make light work and it will be great to see the therapy area move forward so we can finally finish the fence and bring the garden up to where it shines.

13.01.2022 Sorry for late notice. We will be working at the garden again tomorrow. We have plenty to get done as usual . And it looks like a prefect day to spend in the sunshine with some friends . See you there ...

07.01.2022 Wonderful day at Wanneroo Community Garden. Loads of new members and volunteers. We're still rough around the edges but with the support from the community we a...re surging ahead. The kids had a great time and thanks to Mark, a member and owner of Suburban Farmer, everyone learned so much. We'll be starting our workshops soon. Everyone participated in our pot luck luncheon and it was great to have a feed and a chat to offset our labours. The beds in Buckingham House are coming along nicely and the boys did a great job mulching.

05.01.2022 Happy Sunday All. An update on our Buckingham House beds today. They are looking great. The spinach, lettace etc will need harvesting very soon. Even the mangelwurzel is growing brilliantly. We have loads of broadleaf parsley, might need to make a group tabouleh next weekend.

04.01.2022 A quiet day in the garden today. Chooks had a lovely time hunting bugs whilst we all pitched in and weeded, shared knowledge and relaxed.

03.01.2022 To our committee, our volunteers and supporters. There's too many to thank individually, I just want to say thank you for all your efforts. Looking forward to the year to come as we continue to grow. Each and everyone of you is Amazing.

01.01.2022 We are steadily growing. More volunteers each week of all ages and walks of life, our community coming together. 3 veg beds planted in Buckingham House, another vegetable bed in the garden and one huge bed dedicated to strawberries.
