22.01.2022 When I moved down to South Australia back in 2007 to rescue wombats, I could not believe how the wombats were treated. They were being buried alive, shot, drowned, blown up and each time I made a report, I was ridiculed and bullied by government staff responsible for investigating cases. I tried my hardest to gain support from the government, media and other conservation groups but I was rejected time and time again and treated so badly. It was really tough. After 13 years o...f trying my hardest, doing my best to help tortured and slaughtered wombats, I ran out of steam. I was exhausted in every possible way, my brain was fried, I lost all of my confidence and most days I didn't want to get out of bed. I had nothing to say and barely communicated outside of my small circle of friends. After a break from the outside world and focusing on looking after myself and my babies in the sanctuary I began to rebuild my life. It took several years and was no easy feat! I had a dreadful fear of getting back on to social media. Sometimes I could not even string a sentence together but I tried anyway because I needed help. Little by little, you beautiful peeps liked my posts, commented and helped me build my confidence. And in a few short years, our wombat social media community has made huge changes. The old mindset farts in the department are gone making way for great, supportive people. Culling, slaughtering and torture of wombats is not being slung around social media anymore as this treatment of wombats is no longer considered acceptable and the biggest cull was stopped because of public pressure. That is because of you Your support of these babies is absolutely phenomenal and I can feel more big changes are coming. For 16 years, I have really, really, REALLY wanted the slaughter, torture and suffering of wombats to stop, now together, I feel we may just have a chance See more
20.01.2022 FIRE EVACUATION, PLEASE HELP Right now, we are in the process of evacuating our critical care wombats as there is a massive fire heading straight for us. We are terrified! We built a fire bunker as a safety precaution if we couldn't leave but this is a big and dangerous fire and we have to ensure our most vulnerable babies are safe. ... We have 15 intensive care wombats in 3 cars, we have had to leave everyone else behind who is sleeping in their burrows. We are just so heartbroken, the hardest thing we have ever had to do. It is just not fair.... We have nowhere to go. We desperately need help for this current emergency and any future emergencies that make us homeless. Just $5 from each and everyone of you would mean so much to our wombats. It's the cost of your next cup of coffee but one that will help so much in our time of need. Whatever you can donate in these times would be amazing. We also need this post shared as widely as possible xx Please pray for our wombats in our care tonight x We are scared and heartbroken and need all the help we can get at the moment. Please donate now: https://wombat-awareness-organisation-sa-inc.giveeasy.org/d
19.01.2022 Every night when my two little sweethearts are ready for bed, they want cuddles. When I still have work to do, they snuggle in with their Aunty Clare Anne and my favourite pickle Yaya
10.01.2022 Wombats love to rest outside their burrows. I have a couple of babies that always look cold or uncomfy so I started putting out comfortable beds for them to sit on. They are now loved by everyone and Bambi's favourite place to be Bambi was rescued from the wild as an emaciated almost mummified looking wombat. She was so sick! She still has flare ups with an old break in one of her toes, we are trying one more round of treatment before she has to have surgery. I fuss over her a lot and she absolutely loves it
08.01.2022 The sun and Miss Apricot finally came out again this afternoon
06.01.2022 Well today turned out not like what I expected! The CT showed that Sue does still have an abscess in her lung BUT the abscess has shrunk by almost a 1/4 in the past 3 weeks, which is amazing! The radiologist said that sometimes they can't be seen in ultrasounds but he was happy that she has shown improvement. Her treatment is working so we continue with that and have another CT in a fortnight. We have a few days of rain forecast and Sue can't get her iv line wet, so we spe...nt the afternoon putting up a temporary shelter above her burrow so that she can go from my house to her burrow without getting wet, she is pretty excited! Sue is in tremendous spirits which makes me feel so happy and of course she had to test the shelters stability Once again, thank you so much for your continued love and support It means the world to us x See more
01.01.2022 One of our older gents Timothy moves out into the burrows with most of our other wombats each summer. The minute the weather turns cool, he races inside and settles in his favourite spot on the lounge. He sleeps so deeply but not very quietly as a lot of noise comes out both ends He is also a very active dreamer! Timmy has lived with us for over a decade. He was surrendered to us as a deformed, angry, ex pet. This little man taught us so much about mineral deficiencies due to poor diet, we have been able to help a lot of wombats because of him. He is just adorable with his cute carrot teef
