24.01.2022 We are so proud of our National Chair Catherine Wood who was awarded a Queens Birthday Honour this weekend for her work for super, women and trades. 'Ever the activist, Ms Wood said while she very much appreciates the nomination, she would like to acknowledge the award within the context that fewer women receive these awards than men.' Cate, thank you for all you have done to improve women's outcomes. As you pointed out, we still have a long way to go, but you have set us o...n a path to creating massive structural change for all Australians. https://canberraweekly.com.au/super-woman-earns-queens-bir/

23.01.2022 Women who accessed their super through the COVID Early Release Super Scheme - often because they had no other place to turn for financial support - are now even further behind the eight ball when it comes to retirement savings. We’ve conducted a joint analysis of profit-to-member fund data with Australian Institute of Superannuation Trustees and the findings show that the scheme exacerbated the existing challenges facing women.

22.01.2022 The gap between men and women's super balances at retirement is large, but for Indigenous people it's even greater. First Nations Foundation have today launched https://indigenoussuper.com.au/- an educational site made by Indigenous people for Indigenous people and aims to improve retirement dignity for members of our community who have been disadvantaged by the super system. A fantastic resource - well done First Nations Foundation!

21.01.2022 Thank you ABC News for highlighting that a scheme to stop perpetrators of domestic and family abuse from hiding superannuation during Family Court disputes has not been delivered on time. Women’s Legal Service Victoria, Australian Institute of Superannuation Trustees and WIS published a joint letter to the Attorney-General, the Minister for Women and the Assistant Treasurer two weeks ago, but we are yet to hear a response. http://www.abc.net.au//superannuation-scheme-to-p/12473102

17.01.2022 Dascia Bennett’s advice to her twenty year old self is pretty clear cut - the earlier the better on both fronts. So crack out the SPF and set up your salary sacrifice!

14.01.2022 Our Women’s Super Summit kicks off this afternoon. Looking forward to hearing from Senator Jane Hume on women and superannuation from the perspective of the current Federal Government.

13.01.2022 We welcome the passing of legislation today to give parents more flexibility when accessing paid parental leave, however we're disappointed that a super guarantee on PPL was not introduced. We hope that the increased flexibility will encourage more men to share the responsibility of caring for young children with their partners and that their employers will support them in their decision to do so. However, until we introduce super on such payments that are still predominately... accessed by young women, we will continue to see a super structure that financially penalises the retirement outcomes of anyone undertaking valuable caring roles. The rest of our media release can be read here : https://bit.ly/3eR4l3N https://www.abc.net.au//paid-parental-leave-flexi/12403272

10.01.2022 The state of women's super, and women's economic security in general is pretty dire. We were already significantly disadvantaged by many money-related systems, and COVID-19 has only widened the gap. Women's Agenda spoke to multiple economic experts and found similar trends around women's economic security as our Herstory report published this month in conjunction with Australian Institute of Superannuation Trustees and Per Capita Australia. 'The grim reality is clear. Women... are over-represented among the COVID-19 related job losses, over-represented in the industries most affected, and they are more likely to be in part-time or insecure work. They are also more likely to be working fewer hours as they take on additional unpaid pandemic-related domestic and care work. Women are also raiding their already significantly smaller super accounts to get by, thanks to the government’s controversial early access scheme that was introduced in the early days of the crisis.' https://womensagenda.com.au//the-covid-crossroads-on-wome/

06.01.2022 National Reconciliation Week provides us with a reminder to appreciate and recognise The First Nations' People who have come before us on this land, those who are present, and those emerging. The WIS Team acknowledge that we work on the lands of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation and we honour and pay our respects to their Elders past and present. We acknowledge that not all Australians have the same access and privileges and we support Australian Institute of Superannuation Trustees in working with First Nations people to improve their superannuation outcomes.

05.01.2022 Nicole Pedersen-McKinnon Money has broken down how much super we really need to retire on, and where the average Australian is sitting in each decade of their life. "Notice how the super balances are consistently smaller for women than for men, and the extra amount they need to save climbs rapidly. At 25, women need to save $13 a month additionally to men. At 35, the figure is $55. And by 45, it’s $274." The gender pay gap, as well as other contributing factors, mean women a...cross the board have worse retirement outcomes than men, and growing numbers of us are retiring into poverty. https://www.smh.com.au//how-much-super-do-you-really-need-

01.01.2022 We know that women earn up to 47% less super than men. But what does that really mean for actual women? Including real-life stories in our submissions and policy meetings helps us focus our attention on what really matters: improving retirement outcomes for women. Maybe you’ve had to take some career breaks to raise a family or look after parents. Maybe you work in an undervalued industry. Maybe you lost your super in a divorce. Whatever your story, we want to hear it. All vo...ices are important. We’re looking for videos, audio files and written testimonials to help support our case. Please DM us to find out more. We’d love to hear from you.
