25.01.2022 Want to roll up your sleeves and help us put an end to domestic violence and womens homelessness? Need to feel like youre actively making a difference in your community? Hoping to do some spring cleaning and finally find the motivation you need to clean your bedroom?... Youve come to the right place! 25.01.2022 Like everyone in our community, we're thinking of the Class of 2020 as they sit their HSC exams this week. What we didn't realise is that they were thinking abo...ut us too! Instead of a gift to their school, Year 12 students at Catherine McAuley Westmead made a generous and unexpected donation to Parramatta Women's Shelter. We're so moved by this kindness, and to see these young leaders thinking of how they can help people in need in our community at a time like this!

25.01.2022 We are so excited to have the first male employee of WCS - Jack Ellis! Welcome to the Education Officer role supporting schools and students and driving more school engagement!

24.01.2022 "Its more important than ever that we create conditions for little kids to process big emotions, and that we provide opportunities for them to feel power over a situation is within their grasp." A transparent and heart opening piece written by our very own Dannielle Miller who has shared moments of her childhood and how our pioneering Chores for a Cause program can help our youth of today. We acknowledge body+soul for this support.... Grab a cuppa and have a read. #choresforacause #bodyandsoul #WCS

24.01.2022 Congratulations to The Haven - Nepean Women's Shelter who have just clocked over 200 residents since opening their doors in April 2018. 87 women and 113 children have called The Haven home in that period, and received quality support from the extraordinary team. To find out more about The Haven and how you can be a champion, visit thehaven.org.au #walkingbesideher #nepean #domesticviolence #havenchampions

23.01.2022 Twilight Aged Care is over 100 years old and has a unique and fantastic history embedded within North Sydney history and early Australian feminist movements. It was originally established to protect vulnerable women in the early 1910s. Today they provide unique homes with fantastic innovations and programs and they partner with Women's Community Shelters to bring to life our "Meanwhile Use" projects - Mosman House and Beecroft House. Next week they present a magnificient Vir...tual Art Exhibition on October 27 and you are invited to view and purchase these works of art. 22.01.2022 Can we just take a moment here please? Last month St Dominic's College, Penrith joined or Walk The Talk program and all 180 Year 10 lads "adopted" their local WCS, The Haven - Nepean Women's Shelter. When the boys' Year Advisor heard about our Chores for a Cause, he set the challenge to all his students to use this initiative as a means of support. Cameron and Reegan jumped at the opportunity to roll up their sleeves and earn some cash to support local women and kids in need.... Considering the young men were only asked to participate last week, and they have been asked to raise no more than $25 each ( as per our fundraising guidelines), the fact Year 10 have already raised $355 is simply staggering! Doesn't this just fill your heart with hope?

22.01.2022 It was wonderful to welcome the Parramatta Women's Shelter Board to the HUB this weekend. They are invested and dedicated in delivery quality and best practice service to the Parramatta region. They are currently $400 shy of a goal to fund outreach services, so if you can help them reach this goal by donating or sharing the link, we would be most grateful. 21.01.2022 Thank you to the students and staff at Tara Anglican School for Girls for supporting our Parramatta Women's Shelter.

21.01.2022 It may be September 30 but that doesn't mean that your kids need to stop doing their "Chores for a Cause", we encourage you to keep up the fabulous support that has been shown. Please email us at [email protected] with your photos and stories and continue to donate. We even have special certificates that you can request for your child or students. - www.choresforacause.org.au has all the details about the program, donation links and certificate links.

20.01.2022 I AM EVERY WOMAN 2020 has been an incredibly tough year for almost everyone. Australia has seen an increase in Family Violence during this pandemic with many women and children having access to even more limited options to flee violent homes. In fact, on average 56,000 women are homeless each night in Australia. And alarmingly, 45 women have been killed by a partner or former partner so far this year. The team and I at Jeep were inspired by this Chaka Khan/Whitney song to cr...eate something beautiful especially after a year that was less than beautiful in our industry and more importantly in the world. I believe it is even more powerful to use your gifts give back during tough times. As each exceptionally talent individual came on board to work on this collaboration our hearts soared. ‘I’m Every Woman’ was the perfect song I felt, as it has always reinforced my belief that every woman deserves to feel beautiful and valued. 20.01.2022 "We are proud to take part in #WeWearAustralian, an initiative to raise awareness for those in the Australian fashion industry who have been deeply impacted by the current global situation. The local fashion industry is under threat - by buying Australian brands first you are ensuring that it will continue thriving once these dark times are behind us. We all have the power within us to create change and contribute to a better, more equal future and even the smallest actions... can have impact. 19.01.2022 Fundraising Face Masks Support WCS A huge thank you to WCS supporter and Golden Year's founder, Penny Koutras, who is making music themed face masks in aid of charity. $2.50 from each mask is donated to our Bayside Women's Shelter and the masks have raised over $1000 to date.... Penny said: "It's been incredibly frustrating not to be able to gather people and fundraise. Transitioning into mask-making has been a welcome stopgap, particularly as the charities I support haven't been able to fundraise as before." Please email: [email protected] for more details and to show your support.

17.01.2022 Drum roll please... We have extremely exciting news. We have been asked to co-create a Walk The Talk Corporate program with KPMG Australia for Women's Community Shelters! This is an incredible opportunity for us to walk alongside a multinational corporate and reimagine how they might best not only support employees living with domestic and / or family violence, but extend their talents into the broader community to better support frontline services too. It's an enormous opp...ortunity to also centre the voices of survivors, embed action (not just words) and to work for change. Our Director for Education and Special Projects, Dannielle Miller, will be designing and delivering this work. Onwards!

07.01.2022 My Dear Danni column this week is such a powerful one. Please read - because growing girls who understand the importance of gender equality, and know what respectful relationships look and feel like, is not only vital for all our daughters, but this knowledge also functions to protect them whether they’ve been raised in homes where there has been domestic violence, or not. https://womensagenda.com.au//dear-danni-my-ex-was-abusive/

07.01.2022 This ABSOLUTE LEGEND is eight-year-old Bonnie. She is washing her neighbour's cars to raise money for Women's Community Shelters. Bonnie says; "I want to help because everyone should be able to have a good, safe life." Chores for a Cause is more than a hashtag, or a fundraiser. It is an opportunity for kids to make a valuable contribution, and to have important, age appropriate conversations in their homes around gender equity and personal safety. This could possibly be the...ir first positive experience with giving, and plant a seed that may grow into an adulthood enhanced by the joy of volunteering and contributing. For other kids who may have experienced domestic or family violence first-hand, we hope this fundraiser will help them feel less alone. Theyll see there are entire communities of kids (like Bonnie!) and adults (like us!) working to instigate change. Your child can join us here: https://www.womenscommunityshelters.org.au/chores-for-a-ca/ #choresforacause

01.01.2022 Support your local shelter - and sweep aside traditional views about who does what chores at home. www.choresforacause.org.au Today, Womens Community Shelters are launching a new, innovative fund-raising campaign. A pioneering program building young peoples awareness of gender inequality and domestic violence and womens homelessness, Chores for a Cause empowers young people aged 8-18 to support the women and children in need in their community by completing chores in exc...hange for money they can then donate to the shelter of their choice. WCS would be thrilled if kids could raise up to $25 . Why not more? This isnt just about a few young people doing the heavy lifting and raising lots of money. This is an opportunity for everyone to feel they can pitch in and do their little bit too. Because solving domestic and family violence and homelessness needs everyone to care and contribute. The program launches TODAY - just in time for spring cleaning! www.choresforacause.org.au WCS CEO, Annabelle Daniel OAM says; Domestic and family violence is a chronic and ongoing social problem that spikes during times of widespread disaster and stress. Charities are often the very first responders to the vulnerable, the isolated and the homeless who are at particular risk right now during this pandemic. We have seen significant numbers of potential fundraising events planned for WCS and our shelter network cancelled for the foreseeable future. Innovative, positive campaigns like this one have the potential to not only help our sector raise much needed funds, but to provide a sense of hope. Our Education Officer, Dannielle Miller explains why this is not only brilliant for our shelters, but for the kids who roll up their sleeves and support the initiative too: This initiative offers a powerful opportunity to start some really important, age-appropriate conversations in our homes and schools around chore equity (what sort of chores do families need to do, and how often does each family member usually spend on these?), gender stereotyping (theres no such thing as girls' work and boys' work - we can all do all the things!) and respectful relationships (every member of a family should feel safe and respected). The research also clearly shows that meaningful fund-raising opportunities like this one are just what our young people need right now. During times of uncertainty, altruistic acts boost our morale, foster a sense of connection, and give us back a sense of control.
