22.01.2022 In 2017, right in the middle of a deeply devastating season of my life, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. My diagnosis felt like one more thing to add to the ...stack of heartbreaking circumstances I was facing. I’ll never forget sitting in a pink chair hearing the words, I’m sorry, Lysa, you’ve got cancer. It’s scary when doctors shock you with test results, and you don’t know what the future holds. Maybe you can relate. If you or a loved one know the fear and questions that come with this diagnosis, I’m so incredibly sorry. In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, I’m sharing ten things to help you emotionally and spiritually when you’ve been diagnosed with breast cancer. You can read the full article here on my website: https://lysaterkeurst.com//10-things-to-help-you-emotiona/

12.01.2022 Today is the feast day of St. Luke, the evangelist who most clearly brings women’s voices into his gospel, particularly Mary, the mother of Jesus. I love this i...mage of Mary, one that likely takes most of us by surprise. And yet, given Mary’s Magnificat which Luke records, shouldn’t. Mary knew the story of God’s people and the significant threads that ran through it. She is the one, Luke tells us, who treasured up all these things in her heart (Lk 2:51) when she and Joseph find Jesus, three days missing, in the temple. Her submission to the will of God as voiced in her simple, Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word (Lk 1:38), and her delight in her God who has brought down the mighty from their thrones and exalted those of humble estate (Lk 1:52), provide the backdrop to the childhood of the Messiah. We often think of Jesus growing in wisdom and in stature and in favor with God and man (Lk 2:52) in a vacuum, but the context of his growth was the obedience of his parents (Lk 2:39) and the contemplation of his mother (Lk 2: 51), as well as his attentive learning in the temple (Lk 2:46). I love this image’s reminder that mothers who take time to study the Scriptures for themselves do not do so to the neglect of their children. And I love the realism of Joseph’s inclusion, his tender caring for Jesus, because as all mothers know, this kind of study depends on reciprocity in a marriage: a joyful willingness to serve in ways that contribute to the flourishing of the other. 01.01.2022 A word of refreshment especially for you mums. Our God is not haphazard or random. He does not carefully and lovingly put things together only to chaotically tear them to pieces. He does not rip apart what He has built for His glory and our good. He will sustain what He has put into motion for His purposes, and Motherhood is His perfect plan.
