20.01.2022 Happy Albino Wombat Friday folks! This cute little bundle visited our lovely vets at our Wonthaggi clinic this week with the assistance of his carer from a wildlife rescue group. This little chap had some issues with his eyes but an assessment from our vets and some drugs should see him right as rain very soon. Plastic basket is clearly not the native habitat of an albino wombat. Albinism is the absence of pigment in skin and hair and has been observed in all Australian marsupials and even monotremes like the echidna.

06.01.2022 VETS OPEN FOR BUSINESS AS USUAL (..WELL ALMOST USUAL) Despite a few modifications we’ve put in place to promote the health of our clients and staff, all of our clinics are open to aid in the preventative and emergency health of your animals. If you have an appointment, or intend to make one, please be mindful of the following changes we have put in place to uphold the current social distancing and hygiene recommendations related to COVID-19: consultatio...ns by appointment only - please call us on 56721044 to make your appointment (If you are unable to make a pre-existing appointment, please call us to update us so we can use this time for other pets in need) if the waiting room is exceptionally busy we may ask you to wait in your car until the vet is ready to see your pet only one person can present their pet for a consultation (sorry no kids) phone ahead to order prescription medications and over the counter products such as flea/worm treatments and pet food so we can have them ready for you to collect (this is to reduce the number of people standing in the waiting room at once) whilst in our clinics please respect the taped off areas and use the hand sanitizer provided payment with eftpos or credit card is preferable to cash if you are feeling unwell or are in isolation after traveling/exposure to a suspected case, please call the clinic so we can make the most suitable plan to assess your pet At this stage there is no evidence that pet dogs or cats are a source of infection to other animals or humans. Coronaviruses known to occur in animals do not cause infection in humans and are not associated with the current COVID-19 pandemic. Our patients, clients and staff are extremely important to us and we hope that these changes can help make a visit to the vet as safe as possible.

06.01.2022 Dear Clients, thank you for your patience during this period. It looks as if there might be a light at the end of the tunnel, however we wanted to advise you that all our social distancing measures need to stay in place until we get instructions from the Victorian Government otherwise. In our small animal clinics there are a number of ways in which you can help to maintain your own health and safety and that of our staff: Most of our small animal clinics will either allow 1... or 2 clients into the lobby waiting area at a time, other clients waiting for their appointments should wait in their cars. When you arrive in your car at a clinic just call ahead and tell us that you are waiting there and we will come out to take some information and to advise you of next steps. When entering our clinics please observe the markings on the floor and signs to maintain social distancing and follow the instructions of our staff. Our EFTPOS machines have been moved so that we can take payment from you without having to make close contact with our reception counters. If you are coming in to purchase food or pick up medicines for your pet, please just order them over the phone. We can take credit card payment from you at the time. We’ll give you instructions as to how to pick up your purchases they will be placed in a public access area for you and will be clearly labelled and you can just swing by and pick them up While lockdown conditions are still in place we are maintaining the request that only one person attends with each pet. Please don’t bring children with you to your consult for this reason. When visiting, clients must stay in the waiting room, while we take your pet into a consulting room to be examined by our vets and nurses. These steps reduce crowding in our clinics and maintains optimum social distancing. To handle the volume of phone calls we receive, some clinics have a new messaging system for non-urgent items you can push a button to leave a message and there is an option to let us know when you have arrived in the carpark. In addition to the above you will have also seen that we have extended our trading hours to serve you better. Consults can be seen up to 7 PM at Wonthaggi, Leongatha and Phillip Island for our normal consulting fees. Of course we also offer our after hours call-in service for those emergencies that might occur overnight. Just call us on 5662 2818 after hours if you need this service after hours fees will apply. Recently we have also made available tele-consultations for our veterinarians to take histories by video link over the internet. With all of these steps we feel that we are offering an enhanced service while maintaining social distancing for your health and safety. Thank you for your patience during this difficult time and we look forward to brighter days ahead.

06.01.2022 Every month is dental month at Gippsland Veterinary Group. Kayla one of our wonderful nursing team brought in Lilly her 10 year old toy Cavoodle for her 3rd dental procedure. Initially (pre-op) Lilly looks very chilled having a nice cuddle with Kayla but then having been prepped for dental surgery she looks a little more suspicious. Lilly had 3 teeth removed. One lower incisor and both upper carnassial teeth. Right carnassial was removed easily as a whole with the tooth appearing to have root resorption, left carnassial required a gingival flap and sectioning to remove. Lilly recovered well from her anaesthetic and was back to her usual self shortly after. In the last photo at recovery it looks like Lilly is wondering where her next treat might be coming from. Owner and patient doing well.

02.01.2022 Escape from AlCATraz !! Lovely Jet visited our Inverloch clinic recently for an eye check up and look at Jet's wonderful accomodations ! Constructed by Jet's creative owner and clearly not escape proof but he seems to understand that its for transportation and doesn't tunnel out too much.

01.01.2022 GVG are pleased to announce that we now offer Teleconsultations for our small animal clients via video over the internet. This service is ideal for clients who are trying to socially isolate, who live remotely or are currently unwell. This service should only be used for non-urgent cases. To book a teleconsultation with one of our vets, just call one of our clinics and ask for a teleconsult booking. You will need a working mobile phone, laptop or tablet device with a camera a...nd microphone and good internet connection. When you make your appointment you will receive a Zoom link from us by reply either by text or email. At the time and date of your appointment just click on the Zoom link and you will be connected via video and sound with our consulting veterinarian. Our video teleconsultation service is a way of taking a case history from you we can listen to your descriptions, see some images of your patient if possible and then make a recommendation to you for next steps. A teleconsultation does not take the place of an in-person visit or a physical examination of your patient. The fee for our teleconsultation service is $45 and if it results in an in-person consultation, the $45 will be deducted from your bill. For teleconsults we will require payment from you over the phone by credit card. Note that video teleconsultation is not appropriate for urgent cases. Urgent cases should prioritise visiting one of clinics by appointment. Gippsland Veterinary Group are very much open for business across our six small animal clinics and we are practising social distancing measures that will make your in-person visit to one of our clinics easy and safe for both you and your pets. Please remember for in-person visits only one person should attend with your pet and we will advise you of our other social distancing measures that we have in place when you make your appointment. For all of your veterinary care needs, please call any of our clinics today check our website for phone numbers.
