25.01.2022 Some more Wood Days Legends! Today we have Helen Holcombe, Michelle, Mia and Darryl Melano and John Holcombe. John and Helen are part of the furniture at Milltown. It just wouldn’t be the same without their smiling faces and thoughtful conversation... oh and their damper and cuppas! ... The Melano’s own Heywood Ag who have supported the Old Time Wood Days for years. Year after year, they selflessly donate their time and goods for our after dinner auction, which has raised thousands of dollars towards cancer research. Amazing. Thank you Oh, and did you notice the photos peeking out from behind Peter Cook and his band in yesterday’s post? Those photos, and so many more, are displayed every year by Vern McCallum. Each year he sets up a fabulous array of historic photos for visitors to admire, sparking conversation and interest. Thank you for all your support over the years, Vern Speaking of auctions, don’t forget to check in on Friday after 5pm to see what we have for offer in our Online Auction! As always, all proceeds will be going to CiKA
25.01.2022 Before we flood your news feed with our Online Auction (bidding starts at 5pm tonight!) we wanted to thank a few more of our volunteer superstars So much happens at the Old Time Wood Days but these men are responsible for arguably the main attraction - The WOOD!! People come from far and wide to watch these displays in action. Year after year, these volunteers (and many others!) turn up to saw, split and sharpen using both old and new tools and methods. They spar...k interest and draw a crowd, who in turn, generously donate to CIKA: Cancer In Kids Auxiliary at RCH Royal Children's Hospital, Melbourne... which is what our event is REALLY about Helping find a cure for Cancer in Kids If you’ve been to the Wood Days before, you may have seen a lot of these faces! Some of the lucky ones we caught on camera and would love to thank are Chris Fazzio, Ray Hatfield, Scott Duyvestyn, Karl Price, Andrew Duyvestyn, Samual Price, Chris Thomas, Matt Thomas, Lucas Taranto and Kev Kingwill... Thank you ... and thank you to anyone who we may have missed. Please know we appreciate you. Every... single... one of you If you haven’t yet, and our Wood Days posts have inspired you, please consider donating to the link below to help us reach our $5k Virtual Wood Days goal... http://cika.org.au/25-years-of-support-for-cancer-research/
25.01.2022 Here’s cheers to some of our community volunteers! These people run their own organisations and events and still choose to spend their time also volunteering and sharing their expertise at Wood Days Every year Peter Cook and his Merry Men, Peter and John, join us at the Old Time Wood Days to provide entertainment and good cheer to the dinner crowd The very reliable volunteers from the Heywood Lions Club run the BBQ. Not only does this ensure the visitors are wel...l fed throughout the day, it also takes enormous pressure off our dinner crew who are busily preparing for the evening meal Members of the Hamilton Wood Turners Association and the Australian Blacksmiths Association (Victoria Branch) share knowledge of their trades and provide demonstrations to visitors. It’s hard to believe all of this is accessible with just a $5 entry fee!! If you were planning on coming to the Wood Days this year, maybe you could consider donating your entry fee via the link below? Every bit helps to reach our $5k goal! http://cika.org.au/25-years-of-support-for-cancer-research/ P.S - Dont forget to keep your eyes peeled for our Online Auction launching Friday at 5pm
24.01.2022 #throwbackthursday Wood Days - A Reflection Although written in 2007, Rod Shepherds account of the annual Old Time Wood Days still rings true. The sounds, the smells and the talk, talk, talk... It’s comforting to know some things never change ... #seeyouin2021 #fundresearchfindacure http://cika.org.au/wood-days-a-reflection/

14.01.2022 A huge thank you to the Hamilton Spectator for doing a magnificent story on both CIKA and Absent Friends Auxiliary. Whilst being in the thick of COVID-19, the m...eans in which we fundraise, through stalls and events, has come to a halt. We have joined forces with Absent Friends Auxiliary to fund the solid tumour coordinator role at the RCH which will allow parents to gain access to clinical trials. We have been lucky enough to form some wonderful connections with the locals over the years and hope to continue this. We are extremely thrilled to be working with Absent Friends Auxiliary See more
13.01.2022 Ah the serenity
12.01.2022 Christine and Andrew are absolutely honoured to be featured on the cover of the The Royal Children's Hospital, Melbourne Auxiliaries Annual Report They are representing CIKA: Cancer In Kids Auxiliary at RCH Royal Children's Hospital, Melbourne, who are celebrating 40 years of commitment to funding research into solid tumours, the most common form of childhood cancer. Joining Christine and Andrew on the cover are Faye and Michael Love. Their daughter Fiona was the first C...IKA child to survive her cancer, but as an adult she developed a secondary cancer that she sadly passed away from when she was 42. Fred and Leah Bergman are also pictured and are long standing members of CIKA. Their son Simon sadly died in his teenage years. Established in 1980 by a group of dedicated parents, the Cancer in Kids at RCH Auxiliary (CIKA) truly embodies the theme courage to care. With members spanning families, friendship groups, generations and postcodes, their commitment and courage to support children with cancer is changing the lives of RCH patients every day Christine and Andrew have been raising money for CIKA through the Old Time Wood days, and other initiatives, for 25 years. We are feeling so humbled to share this report with you detailing the life changing impacts of CIKA
10.01.2022 With disappointment we have had to cancel our 2020 Wood day’s. We were (as everyone else was) hoping that we would be let out of our current restrictions by now, but as this did not happen we have taken the only option and that is to cancel. We will start planning now for a bigger and better 25th Old Time Wood Days in 2021. Thank you to EVERYONE who has supported us in the past and hope you will continue to do so in the years to come. Andrew and Christine Duyvestyn
09.01.2022 CIKA would like to acknowledge the incredible support we receive from both Cheryl and Normie. For many years they have quietly worked behind the scenes to help our auxiliary fund research into paediatric cancer. Cheryl and husband Normie have been regular attendees at CIKA functions over the years, including Trivia nights and CIKA Balls. They have often provided CIKA with lovely donations and even in these difficult times they continue this support. It is such a lovely surprise to find parcels on the door step or receive a phone call announcing a future delivery. Thank you, Cheryl and Normie, from all of us at CIKA, for your kindness and generosity. Let's hope we can get together at the Wood days in November. Living legends

If you would like to make a tax deductible donation, you can do so by following this link http://cika.org.au/25-years-of-support-for-cancer-research/ THIS is what it’s all about, this is the heart of Wood Days. This is why Christine and Andrew began the event 25 years ago. This is why we fundraise and donate, this is where your money goes - to support crucial research into solid cancerous tumours in children... For this, we could never thank you enough #fundresearch #findacure #thankyou
04.01.2022 We still have money coming in, but currently the 2020 Virtural Wood Days running total is sitting at $8,500!! ... Christine and Andrew would like to send a heartfelt thank you to all of the supporters that helped us to smash our $5,000 goal this year Where it all began... 44 years ago, Christine and Andrew’s two year old son Dean, was diagnosed with a stage 3 Wilms tumour - a cancer of the kidney. Dean survived a surgery which removed one of his kidneys and 18 inch...es of his bowel. He then endured weeks of chemotherapy and four weeks of radiotherapy. Despite this challenging journey, Dean is one of the lucky ones. We are very fortunate to have him still with us, which is due to the great work of the oncology department of the The Royal Children's Hospital, Melbourne Inspired by this, Andrew and Christine embarked on a crusade to support cancer research at the hospital. To date, they have fundraised over $400,000 which has gone directly to the CIKA: Cancer In Kids Auxiliary at RCH Royal Children's Hospital, Melbourne to fund critical research into finding a cure for childhood cancer. #inspiring There is still time to make a tax deductible donation by clicking here http://cika.org.au/25-years-of-support-for-cancer-research/ Find out more about CiKAs children http://cika.org.au/cikas-children/ Reminisce about the 2013 CiKA Coach drive, which raised $74k http://cika.org.au/cika-coach-drive/ #fundresearchfindacure
