22.01.2022 Pity our annual budget has been spent. Hmm, maybe next year?

21.01.2022 Save the date! Saturday 21 November. 1-4 pm @ Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens.

20.01.2022 Nice work. Take particular notice of where Billie is holding the shark. Behind the pectoral fins gives you a nice firm grip and prevents it from thrashing about too much. Many people would automatically hold it in front of the pectoral fins but this compresses the gills and could damage them.

17.01.2022 Sharing Gordon’s history New interpretation panels are being developed to tell the story of Gordon. In a collaboration between the South Channel Ratepayers and ...Residents Association (SCRRA), Tasmanian Aboriginal Centre and Kingborough Council, the panels will tell the story of the area’s Traditional Owners, the township’s early days, and the devastating impact of the 1967 bushfires. Members of the Channel community, and those who have a connection to Gordon, are invited to view the proposed signage panels and feedback is invited. The feedback will be taken into consideration before the panels are made and installed at the campground and jetty. 12.01.2022 Some great news!

07.01.2022 Can't travel to see this world's natural wonders? come to Australia 'virtually' and see the reef spawning. "REEF LIVE airing Friday 4 December, 8.30pm and Sund...ay 6 December, 8.40pm on ABC and iview will let you experience the anticipation and the wonder of this unique and very special natural event. As corals across the outer reef synchronise their spawn release, scientists will capture the spawn in a race against time to help regenerate the reef before it’s too late. As well as the coral spawning, we’ll watch the reef come alive in the breeding bonanza of fish, birds, and turtles." See more

07.01.2022 Not all marine science is in the water. Short-tailed Shearwaters are a marine foraging species, but nest on land.

05.01.2022 There's a lot of bioluminescent sea sparkle (that's the pink slick on the surface in the photo) in the d'Entrecasteuax Channel today around Kettering and Woodbridge. The gentle breeze has blown it onto the western shore, so there should be some spectacular observations tonight. *update at 15:00hr* It's just started raining and the sea sparkle has completely disappeared!

04.01.2022 The southern end of Blackmans Bay beach is a fantastic spot for snorkelling. Just watch out for the banded stingarees, and often a southern eagle ray can be found there too, but if you leave them alone they will leave you alone.

04.01.2022 This post is for Tassie teachers.

02.01.2022 Sad news from NSW. The Sapphire Coast Marine Discovery Centre has closed down. Based in Eden, this not-for-profit community-based marine discovery centre was a popular destination for many lovers of the sea.

02.01.2022 Watch out for penguins crossing Thanks to a great new initiative by Central Coast Council, truckies and drivers are now slowing down and on the look-out for pen...guins. The Little Penguin breeding season is in full swing on the coast. The birds leave at dawn to feed at sea and return to their nests at dusk to either incubate eggs or feed their chicks, many of them in danger of being run over as they cross the road each morning and night. We are lucky to have Little Penguins breeding on many of our coastal beaches. Please slow down at dusk and dawn and help protect these vulnerable birds. If you want to learn more about Little Penguins, check out our online learning module: http://www.cradlecoast.com/online-learning-packages/

01.01.2022 Our visiting primary school groups are finding some really interesting things within metres of our classroom using our remotely operated underwater vehicle. Here's a short complilation of some of the finds. All filming is by primary school students.
