25.01.2022 These are our beautiful singing bowls that we are using to let the children know about times to break or to come inside. Instead of using a bell, we wanted something that felt beautiful to hear, felt lovely to play and something that a child and a guide can do together. We have a smaller one for the children to use and a bigger one for the guides #woodlineprinary #singingbowls #farmschool #buildaschool #connection #listen #innovativeeducation #ceres
25.01.2022 One of our co-creators of Woodline Prinary @laelstone was fortunate enough earlier this year to deliver a @tedx_official talk on raising emotionally intelligent children and she shared all about why creating a place like Woodline Primary is so important for children and the future. It’s a time that we learn to value EQ as much as IQ. It’s time to place childrens emotional well-being at the center of learning. #woodlineprimary #farmschool #connection #buildaschool #tedxdocklands #awareparenting #innovativeeducation

15.01.2022 The beauty of having a school on a farm is our immediate access to Environmental Learning. Studying and nurturing our environment is not a separate subject at Woodline, rather it is part of our daily school practice. Each class takes responsibility for certain aspects of the farm, whether that be caring for our horses and chickens, topping up the worm farm, weeding, or watering. Students also participate in composting, conscious water consumption and the use of single-u...se products as a matter of course. We want the students at Woodline to know how to take care of the earth and to know the impact they can have in making a difference to our beautiful planet. 15.01.2022 A wealth of research shows that unstructured play - play that isn't organised or directed by adults or older peers and that generally doesn't have a defined purpose or outcome - is a fundamental necessity for children to thrive physically, emotionally, mentally and socially." . The above quote comes from the American Psychological Association article discussing ways to foster development in children. It also speaks a lot of truth to us here at Woodline, particularly arou...nd helping children to learn and thrive. Play, play, play. Explore, explore, explore Discover, discover, dicover. 15.01.2022 When choosing a name for the school, we wanted something that would reflect the values and essence of our school. The Wood represents the protection and support from the tree line that runs around the entire property as well as wood representing a connection to the earth. We love the image of a Nest that is safe and nurturing. The Line represents the path that children can take, as well as the boundaries that we need to keep us all safe. Our aim is for the children at Woodline to feel held and supported and to have the ability to carve their own path. #woodlineprimaryschool #compasionateschool #learning #awareness #connection #innovativelearning #ceres #woodlineprimaryschool #emotionalwellbeing #pioneeringeducation #education

12.01.2022 It is with such joy that we introduce the community to our new Principal at Woodline Primary. Please meet the wonderful Claire Bartlett. We asked Claire to share a bit about herself and what has brought her to Woodline. "Growing up on acreage in Strathfieldsaye just outside of Bendigo, I spent my childhood exploring the bush and land with my younger sister as well as caring for the various animals we had over the years. We had an unusual array of animals such as donkeys..., goats, yabbies, guinea fowl and rabbits - just to name a few! My childhood experiences influenced my love for all things nature as well as instilling the importance of caring for the environment. I enjoyed school, especially the social aspect and always wanted to be a teacher when I 'grew up'. I loved playing sport, especially team sports. I have also always had a strong interest in photography as well as cooking. I have spent 18 wonderful years working in education in a variety of both government and independent schools and all year levels from Early Learning through to Year 6. I have always believed that relationships are central to all that we do. Children need to feel safe, happy, respected, and connected in order to fully develop as learners and productive members of society. Learning to children is natural and I believe Woodline's philosophy and values foster the right environment in which children will learn most powerfully. I place great importance on the roles of families, the community and the students themselves in education. Every child is unique, capable and are co-constructors of knowledge. As well as an educator, my other most significant roles are as a wife and mother. We have lived in Geelong for nearly 13 years and feel blessed to be living here. We enjoy spending time at the You Yangs, Otways and all of the beautiful beaches. I am honoured to be the Principal of Woodline and look forward to learning alongside our children, our staff and our families." Woodline opening in 2021 is subject to VRQA approval
12.01.2022 Our new driveway and carpark is being constructed along with renovations happening inside our school. We aren’t making too many structural changes, but we are working to create spaces for the children to explore. We are excited to start with a relatively blank canvas and our vision is to invite the children to show us what they love, how the space can work best and what ether needs are. Observing, being curious, playing, exploring learning from our surroundings and co...nnecting will be the goals when we start next year. #woodlineprimary #farmschool #innovativelearning #connection #ceres #buildaschool #trustingchildren Woodline Primary is subject to VRQA approval See more

10.01.2022 LOTE - Rather than offering a non-English language, Woodline incorporates Auslan as part of our learning program. Auslan, short for Australian sign language, is the language of the Australian deaf community. Auslan’s reliance on body language is one of the reasons it appeals to us at Woodline. Reading and expressing body language is not often intentionally cultivated in children but it’s such a valuable life skill. Over 50% of our daily communication is non-verbal, so bei...ng aware of the impact our body language has on others is akin to having access to another language. . We incorporate Auslan into learning (using fingerspelling in conjunction with learning site words for example) rather than teaching it in isolation as a separate subject, because continued practice is the key to mastery, particularly when it comes to language learning. 09.01.2022 We are so happy to share more about our Foundation/Grade 1 Guide - Lauren. We asked Lauren to share a little more about herself. ‘I’m deeply passionate about emotional awareness being the baseline for learning, and I’ve always intuitively taught and parented in this way. By holding the space for all emotions we allow ourselves to thrive (and what a gift for children to be aware so young). I really believe it’s a priority to listen to that central spark in children that l...ights them up in any given moment. By encouraging children to bring their unique gifts to this world in a creative and open environment, we then allow all possibilities to evolve and in turn hold wide space for their full potential. I love that the children will witness their peers in this space at Woodline Primary too-how inspiring. I live a conscious life where I find it deeply fascinating to question the world around me, knowing that information is constantly evolving to support the evolution of humanity. I love eating whole foods, cooking from scratch and reducing toxins because I feel like I can bring the best of myself to the world living this way. You’ll find me enjoying the beach or on nature trips on the weekends with my family, also involving myself in deep chats with friends and often learning new information that inspires me. I naturally have a creative mind set and I’m passionate in this space. By allowing the strength of our intuitive spark to lead the way it’s truely incredible where it will take us. For all these reasons I’m so so excited to be joining the team of guiders at Woodline Primary. I feel like together we are going to create magic for our children and the community, bringing together all of our wisdom. Connection with self and encouraging authenticity is my central priority for my own life and as a teacher, and to be able to fully express this at Woodline Primary will be a beautiful journey. #woodlineprimary #farmschool #emotionalintelligence #woodline #connection #buildaschool #empathy #loveoflearning #traumainformed #playbasedlearning Woodline Primary is subject to VRQA approval

04.01.2022 In writing the policies for our school, this is one of the key values for learning through connection. Our aim is to help a child feel safe and valued so that they are able to express themselves freely as well as have their needs met. When a child feels connected and safe, their nature is to want to please and belong and therefore when we see a child having a hard time or acting out - our default is to think "this child is having a hard time and how can we help them come bac...k into balance." Non-punitive discipline is an approach to child-rearing that does not use any form of punishment. It is about loving guidance and requires carers to have a strong relationship with the child so that the child responds to gentle guidance as opposed to threats and punishment. We do not use reward charts or behavior points, isolation or punishments. We use listening, connection, communication and support to help children who maybe acting out or having a hard time. 04.01.2022 Our approach to technology centres around resourcefulness. Children are naturally resourceful, however, when presented at a young age, with seemingly infinite multidimensional information via the internet, their need to employ creativity and resourcefulness in finding solutions is diminished. We understand though, that children are part of a world in which digital fluency is necessary, and we take seriously our role in helping them become resourceful and responsible... consumers and producers of digital content. Our solution is twofold: 1/ In the younger years (foundation to grade 3), students do not engage with technology at school. Instead, we prioritise experiential learning, particularly through the natural environment. Children develop resourcefulness through open-ended play, interaction with natural materials and collaborative problem-solving. 2/ We integrate digital technology slowly as children progress into grade 4 and above with critical analysis, interpretation and evaluation of online content, before skills in digital resourcefulness are encouraged. We know the world of technology exist and there are many things we love about it. We just want to make sure we have the balance of the earth as well as the innovation that technology can provide.
