25.01.2022 Have you heard the story behind the publication of this book? In the summer of 2018 Layla F Saad ran a free month-long Instagram challenge that would become an international cultural movement... Thousands of people worldwide were galvanized by the #meandwhitesupremacy challenge, examining and owning responsibility for the ways in which they uphold white supremacy. In just six months, a whopping 80,000 people downloaded her guide to the movement. And now, that guide is a... published book. Readers will go on a journey of understanding their white privilege and participation in white supremacy, so that they can stop (often unconsciously) inflicting damage on others. For many its an uncomfortable topic, but a very timely and necessary one. See more

17.01.2022 Some new book news for your Wednesday evening. This one hit our shelves last week and we cant wait to (pardon the pun), dive in. When Rebecca Giggs encountered a humpback whale stranded on her local beach, she began to wonder how the lives of these great mammals might shed light on the condition of our seas. How do whales experience environmental change? Has our connection to these fabled animals been transformed by technology? What does it mean to write about nature in t...he midst of an ecological crisis? This narrative non-fiction wonder blends natural history, philosophy and science. Giggs introduces us to whales so rare they have never been named. We learn of whale pop songs that sweep across hemispheres, follow them into the deeps, climb on board Japanese whaling ships and confront the plastic pollution pervading their underwater environment. Fathoms is a work of profound insight and wonder and provides us with a compelling view of some of the most urgent issues of our time. See more

14.01.2022 Hi folks, It looks like we're in for a chilly week ahead! Don't forget to hop online Thursday night (register at the link below) for author James Bradley's talk on his new novel, 'Ghost Species.' ... In a recent piece written for TheGuardian James said: 'I began writing Ghost Species just after my fathers death. It will be published a few weeks after my mothers. It was edited while bushfires raged up and down Australias east coast, in a city thick with smoke and grief, and will be published in a world paralysed by a pandemic. Perhaps unsurprisingly therefore, it is a book that is, in many ways, defined and suffused by the sense of loss so many of us feel at the moment. But it is also a book that seeks to remind us that even out of the most seismic loss and grief, new configurations are always possible.' Register at the link below + get 10% off James' book in-store with the promo code 'GHOST10.' See you Thursday!

07.01.2022 We don't need to tell you that 2020 has been an ... interesting year for many. For us booksellers, it has been rewarding (being able to stay open for our customers during lock down; sharing our passion for books as saviours of boredom!) and also frustrating. The publication dates of so many books were pushed back this year - in some cases for months. Shipments from overseas got stuck in limbo and countless author tours cancelled.... If you're planning on stuffing your stockings full of books this Christmas, we strongly advise that you order early. Ordering early will help you: 1. Avoid missing out on delayed re-orders of sold-out books. 2. Avoid the crowds that our bookshop always experiences in December. As always, local delivery is free and all books will be beautifully gift-wrapped. Thanks!

04.01.2022 Another day, another fabulous Australian debut... Imbi Neeme recently shared the elevator pitch for her prize-winning debut novel: no two people experience the same thing in the same way, especially when they are sisters ... but totally more interesting than that. You could certainly say shes taken this everyday truth and catapulted it into the literary atmosphere. The Spill is about a car overturning on a remote Western Australian road. The passengers are two sis...ters and their alcoholic mother. No one is injured, but the impact is felt for decades. Exploring the cycles of love, loss and regret that follow a family over time, its a moving portrait of sisters falling apart and finding their way back again. In store now for $32.99
