23.01.2022 Today is World Mental Health Day and the message is Look after your mental health, Australia. It's a simple call to action for the one in five Australians aff...ected by mental illness, and for the many more impacted by the current COVID-19 pandemic, and the increased uncertainty of the last six months. Make a mental health promise and find tips, advice and resources to help you look after yourself and others at www.lookafteryourmentalhealthaustralia.org.au

14.01.2022 My July 24, 2004 suicide note - is a message of hope. Today is both R U OK? Day and World Suicide Prevention Day, and for me these events will always be intimat...ely linked. My suicide attempt, recovery, and subsequent BACK FROM THE BRINK book, led to me meeting R U OK?’s founder, Gavin Larkin, who tragically lost his father Barry to suicide. We had an instant bond he had deep regret of losing his father and I had profound relief that I didn’t put my family through the same thing. When I wrote this note, I was 110% convinced that I would never emerge from my crippling depression. I now have a meaningful and rewarding life and I share this note to provide hope to anyone that may be in struggling. Reach out and ask for help please. The pandemic has dramatically increased the need (Black Dog Institute research reveals that 78% of us feel our mental health has declined and 23% significantly) for authentic conversations, and the theme and resources this year ‘There is more to say after R U OK?’ couldn’t be more timely. Be caring. Be helpful and ask R U OK? to anyone you think may be struggling. Even though Gav is no longer with us I know he would be immensely proud of what R U OK? has become. #mentalhealth #ruok #ruok365

10.01.2022 "Today was a Difficult Day," said Pooh. There was a pause. "Do you want to talk about it?" asked Piglet. "No," said Pooh after a bit. "No, I don't think I do." "That's okay," said Piglet, and he came and sat beside his friend.... "What are you doing?" asked Pooh. "Nothing, really," said Piglet. "Only, I know what Difficult Days are like. I quite often don't feel like talking about it on my Difficult Days either. "But goodness," continued Piglet, "Difficult Days are so much easier when you know you've got someone there for you. And I'll always be here for you, Pooh." And as Pooh sat there, working through in his head his Difficult Day, while the solid, reliable Piglet sat next to him quietly, swinging his little legs...he thought that his best friend had never been more right." A.A. Milne Sending thoughts to everyone having a Difficult Day today. I hope you have your own Piglet to sit beside you

01.01.2022 "This year hasn't been easy and things certainly didn't go to plan. So many people I know, myself included, have faced a load of unforeseen challenges like movi...ng city or losing work. We've all been impacted, but let that unite us because together we're stronger. Now is the time to extend the hand of friendship and start a conversation that could change a life. You might be surprised at how many of your mates will open up if you really give them the chance." Kieran wants you to reach out to your mates and ask R U OK? Learn how at www.ruok.org.au/how-to-ask
