15.01.2022 Yes it’s SNAKE SEASON! Over the past few weeks we have had an unusually high number of pets with snake bites. Please make sure you take precautions and seek help immediately if your dog or cat is showing signs.... These sign or symptoms can be quite variable ranging from a complete collapse thru generalised weakness and even showing spasms. Bleeding episodes may even be seen with envenomation. Snakes are attracted to potential food and water sources and safe, quiet places to hide. To reduce the risk of snakes finding your backyard or property attractive, keep your grass mown, clear up any rubbish piles and clear away objects where snakes can hide. Unwanted materials, especially timber and iron, which retain the heat, will attract snakes. Make sure that stockfeed is stored securely so that snakes are not attracted by mice. If you are walking your dog close to bushland, especially near water during the summer months, please keep your dog on a lead and avoid long grassy areas.
11.01.2022 Today’s action....collecting bloods for Selenium and Copper status. We are sampling 20 cows to determine baseline, Multimin and dry lick effects on our 3rd tr...imester cows. We were going to go down the path of live liver biopsy ( ouch!) but I just couldn’t do it to these beautiful girls. All these girls will receive a pre-calving Multimin treatment to help ‘top-up’ essential trace minerals during their ‘high-demand’ calving period. We find this helps with calf heath and cow recovery post calving by optimising immune function and reproductive efficiency. We will combine the blood test results with data from: Faecal NIRS (Symbio Laboratories) Soil tests (Thanks to Ben Pursehouse Rural) Plant tissue sampling From this we hope to develop a good picture of what our baseline is and exactly how the Multimin is helping. Thanks to Wooroolin Vet Services for their professional stabbing! Check out the Multimin Performance Ready Challenge for what other producers are doing in the challenge!
