24.01.2022 Corporate Jo, who 'dis? Believe it or not, before I turned my hand to copywriting, I spent the best part of 15 years in a corporate environment. From customer service supervision in a national telecommunications company, to forensic administration and intelligence for the police force in the UK, to real estate office management, to professional fundraising and grants officer for a Queensland-based not-for-profit.... While these days I'm much more comfortable working at the pace I've set for myself, 15 years of getting dressed in a suit for work and having to constantly juggle multiple balls in the air is where my existing promise to my customers stems from. I understand the challenges executives, CEO's and BDMs face every day so I promise to make life easier for my clients. I understand there's a budget to stick to, a board to answer to, countless people who need your input and a multi-tasking ability that needs to deal with multiple projects at any one time. I understand because I've been there. For many, many years. From my extensive experience around meetings about meetings, procedures and policies, and an inbox that never sleeps, I know that all you need is someone to put their hand up and say, "I'm here to get this job done for you quickly, efficiently, professionally, and within the confines of your budget." And that person is me If you're looking for ongoing content, website copywriting or digital content that will engage an audience without giving you MORE work to do, follow the link below or call me on 0422 053 199 to chat about your one-off or ongoing copywriting project. Not only am I here to provide you with copy and content that gets results, I understand what you need and I’m here to make your life easier in the process. www.wordsandthebees.com.au

24.01.2022 [Are you alienating your target market without even realising it?] Everyday language is evolving to be fully inclusive and non-gender specific. Hundreds (if not thousands) of words are ingrained in our vocabulary and used completely innocently with no harm intended. Unfortunately, some of these common words and phrases may now be alienating or offending followers without you even realising it.... For example, it's now more appropriate to say ‘people’ instead of ‘mankind’, ‘craft’ instead of ‘workmanship’ and ‘intermediary’ instead of ‘middleman’. In a time where it’s more important than ever to be gender-neutral, perhaps content marketers themselves now need to rethink one of the most common (and true) phrases in the field. Should we now replace CONTENT IS KING with CONTENT IS ROYALTY?! If you're publishing content to appeal to a large audience, this is just the tip of the iceberg for the way language is progressing. Regularly review your website copy and marketing material to make sure you don’t alienate any of your intended audience. www.wordsandthebees.com.au

21.01.2022 When life deals a rough hand, we've all got someone who's helped us through the valley. As the hits your fan of life, people rally around, put their lives on hold and do whatever it takes to get you through the tough times. It's human nature.... But I don't believe it's a coincidence that people come out of the woodwork when you're going through trouble and strife. I think people step up and go the extra mile for you because you've dropped all the pretences that you can cope. When the going gets tough, the tough have no choice but to become vulnerable. And, when you're vulnerable, people are drawn to you and want to get close. As your strength comes back, so do the walls, and everyone who's been on the end of the phone 24-7 returns to their normal life. Until the next time. Your business is no different. If you're not portraying vulnerability through your content, you're not drawing anyone to you. And by that, I don't mean telling the world your woes (trust me, they don't want to know!). But drop the pretences. Become honest and authentic in who you are, and what your business stands for. There's a lot to keep up with in our online world. But the one thing nobody can ever compete against is the genuine, vulnerable, you. Through your content marketing, take off the outer layers and let people see the real core of your business. Show your ‘why'. Share the highs and lows. Address your challenges. Display gratitude. That's how you'll build the genuine relationships that will take your business to the next level. Organic, genuine, authentic content really is king. Call Jo on 0422 053 199 to find out how Words and the Bees can provide content to build your business. www.wordsandthebees.com.au

19.01.2022 Christmas appeal planning is already well underway for most charities. While the biggest season of giving is a well-oiled machine for many, a Christmas appeal in the middle of a pandemic is likely to be a different story. While donors might be reviewing their giving habits in these uncertain times, SupporterHub has recently published its list of non-monetary KPIs to measure the success of a Christmas appeal during a pandemic. 19.01.2022 Lest We Forget

18.01.2022 Just days from his 100th birthday, Captain Tom Moore raises over $45 million for UK health services and then records and releases a song with Michael Ball which enters the UK charts at number 1. I was proud of myself for cleaning out my kitchen cupboards this weekend. But I guess there are more constructive things I could be doing during ISO after all?! What a bloody legend! ... #nevertooold

16.01.2022 When I was approached by Susan Milicevic to create copy for her accounting and consultancy website, I jumped at the chance! Aspire Consulting offers a more modern approach to traditional accounting services so I knew we could create some great results with a fresh new website. Susan’s biggest problem was that she knows her business inside out but wanted to articulate her service offering in a way that appealed to her target market. I worked with her existing copy and brief t...o create clear, concise messaging that leaves website visitors in no doubt how Aspire Consulting can solve their problems. Working in collaboration with Bhive Design Co., we truly nailed the brief! Check out the fresh new website below. For website copy that speaks to your target market, visit our website or call Jo on 0422 053 199 for an informal chat about how we can help you connect with your target market. https://aspire-ca.com.au/

16.01.2022 One of the most common questions I get asked when I tell people I create content is ‘how do you know what to write?’. The answer is simple: Research. Included in our copy and content service is a thorough briefing process (face-to-face, over the phone or electronically), comprehensive competitor and product research carried out by yours truly, and two rounds of edits to make sure all clients receive copy they’re happy with and proud to share.... When I was contacted by Allen from Global Polling late last year and asked to provide over 60 blog posts on a range of local and global issues including gender diversity in the workplace, Trump’s impeachment and nuclear energy, I was only too happy to oblige. 60 articles later, the world is consuming our content through the Global Polling website and I’m not going to lie, I’m a little bit smarter because of it! Go on, ask me anything! For blogs for business, website copywriting and writing services to help your business reach its goals, call Jo on 0422 053 199. 15.01.2022 I think we could all learn a thing or two from this guy’s copywriter

14.01.2022 BUSINESS OWNERS: Everyday language is evolving! I know what it’s like. You’ve spent thousands of dollars and just as many months building a website. Once it’s finally ready for launch, there’s no way you have the time, energy or finances to revisit the design for at least a few more years. Unfortunately, though, while your sleek design, colours and imagery might hit your branding spot, our everyday language is evolving. ... There's no doubt that since the pandemic hit, we live in a completely different world to this time last year. Below is a list of words and phrases that didn’t exist (or weren’t commonly used) as the clock struck 2020. LESS THAN A YEAR AGO! Social distancing, contactless, isolation, ‘rona, and WFH (working from home) are some of the more common terms in use today, but let’s not forget the completely new words created since the start of the pandemic. Maskne (acne caused by wearing face masks ), covidiot (someone who refuses to follow public health guidelines) and quarinitini (any cocktail consumed while in quarantine ) are all brand new words that now roll off the tongue as if they’ve always been a part of our language. Your website might be fully functioning and still serve a purpose, but has it moved with the times? Does it now show your target market that your business is current and that you understand what they’re looking for? If yours is a business which has risen to the evolutionary challenge of the pandemic, your website needs to be updated to show your customers you still understand them. The good news is, there's no need to invest more time and thousands of dollars to create a whole new site. You can completely freshen up your website with some simple updates to your copy and blog content. To refresh your website copy or add new blog content to your site to show your target market that you understand them, visit our website or call Jo on 0422 053 199 to find out about website copywriting. It’s fast, effective, and will keep your business moving in line with these UNPRECEDENTED times. Can you add any words or phrases to this list? 2020...will the world ever be the same again? www.wordsandthebees.com.au

13.01.2022 [HOW WORDS AND THE BEES SURVIVED LOCKDOWN] Somebody asked me the other day if Words and the Bees is still in business. Apparently, I’ve been quiet on social media and they didn’t know if I was still operating. Well, to clear up any confusion, absolutely Words and the Bees is still here for all your copy and content writing needs.... Since Queensland went into lockdown towards the end of March, Words and the Bees has provided copy and content for over 15 clients. I've written tax appeal copy for a Queensland-based charity, website copy for a real estate agent, email communication for an accountant, blog writing services for skincare, lifestyle and professional service brands, product descriptions for an online fishing tackle store, proofreading and copy editing for professional services, website copy for forensic cleaning services and much, much more So, yes, words and the Bees is still very much operational and already getting booked up into the new financial year. The truth is, if I’ve been quiet on social media it’s because I've been taking care of my mental health, something that has always been a priority of mine. During this time of COVID-induced stress and anxiety on both a personal and professional level, I’ve had to limit my non-essential exposure to social media news, political discussions, and general opinion. There is no filter from our online world and to be completely truthful, I can find it exhausting and overwhelming. I believe so strongly in only giving out positivity online (and insist on the same for my clients), and over the past few months, I’ve found social media has largely been anything but. Getting through lockdown for any business has not been an easy task with many only just starting to find their feet again. I know as an online business, for Words and the Bees it’s been easier than most, but it has definitely come with challenges which I’ll talk more about in the coming days. While writing copy and content day in, day out, I’ve also used the time to update my website (you can view it here https://rb.gy/szskis), create some new website copywriting packages to help business owners who are using this time to invest in building the online side of their business (you can view them here https://rb.gy/rxtyrj), and I also turned another year older (which we don’t need to mention as I didn’t fully use the last one!) While the impact of COVID is still being felt across the world, I know that it’s not going to be business as usual for many for a very long time. For Words and the Bees, though, your copywriting wish is STILL our command. Call Jo on 0422 053 199 for more information. Jo x credit: Sunshine Soul Photography

11.01.2022 Sad and scary times all round. I've just Googled 'why is Tik Tok still active?' but can't find anything to tell me why the platform hasn't been removed until there's a guarantee they can keep users safe. Anyone got any ideas?

10.01.2022 I hate that we were brought up not to talk to strangers. OK, I get the safety implications of kids (and adults for that matter!) taking lollipops from people they don't know, but really...don’t talk to strangers? Some of my strongest relationships have come from conversations with people who started as strangers. It makes me sad that this is still the exception not the norm. ... Of course, putting your safety first is paramount, but let's go against the grain and make eye contact with a stranger today. Stop and have a chat with someone you don't know. You never know how much connecting with someone today might help you. Or them! And don't forget, your most valued customers were strangers once. Make sure your business is connecting with strangers regularly. Social media posting, blog posting, email list - connect, connect, connect! I challenge you. Break the mould and ALWAYS talk to strangers. www.wordsandthebees.com.au

09.01.2022 Today Words and the Bees turns FIVE! Can you believe it? It only feels like yesterday I was working day and night willing time to hurry up so I could be the established business owner who knew what they were doing ... Well, guess what I’ve finally arrived at the place I always wanted to be. Five years as a business owner. Five years of lessons and growth. Five years of always wanting to be that little bit further ahead so I could be even more confident in the service I provide. Reflecting on five years of Words and the Bees reminds me of the saying below There are things I pray for now with my whole heart but it’s important to remember that while I’m doing that, I also sit here today with everything I spent years asking for. What a milestone! Thanks to the 117 clients who have used the services of Words and the Bees in the past five years. Whether it’s for one off copywriting or ongoing content packages and repeat content, it’s because of YOU I’m writing this post today. THANK YOU If you want to check out what we’ve been up to over the past five years, have a look round the website below. You can find details of our services, some client testimonials and a little bit more about who’s behind Words and the Bees! Jo x #happybirthdaytous www.wordsandthebees.com.au

06.01.2022 Father’s Day is a day to celebrate dads and those playing the role of a dad in some form, but it can be a tough day for those who are grieving or whose dads aren’t present. From celebrating the highs to commiserating the lows, whatever today means to you, we wish a Happy Father’s Day to all the dads, dads-to-be, mums who double as dads and anyone else playing a father’s role in the life of someone today! #happyfathersday

05.01.2022 I’ve seen a lot of talk recently about Facebook removing posts containing unsubstantiated information regarding the COVID-19 crisis. Does this violate our rights to freedom of speech? Or is this Facebook acting as all businesses should and keeping their service safe for users during this global pandemic? Facebook is a business operating just like mine and yours. The platform has a responsibility to only deliver a reputable service to its customers, just like you and I do. If... fact checking doesn’t bring up anything factual, why should the platform then attach their business name to sharing this information? Personally, I like the fact that articles making unsubstantiated claims are now being removed and I don’t see this as a violation of my rights at all. Inaccurate information makes my job so much harder and can have a significant impact on mental health and wellbeing. However Facebook keeps the online space fact-friendly gets my vote! You can read Facebook’s official statement on the changes they’ve made during the COVID-19 crisis below. PS, for those who have had their home-made face mask ads rejected, this is also explained below.

04.01.2022 When I look back over my career, there have been very few people who have left a mark like this lady here! When I worked in the not-for-profit sector, Fiona MacAnally was firstly my manager, but secondly and perhaps most significantly - a mentor, guide and friend who turned into family. With my career spanning six years in professional fundraising, Fiona was there through the entire process from the moment she recruited me. ... From teaching me the professional ropes of writing fundraising copy that engages donors, running successful events, and writing donor-based communications, to more personally helping me uncover the skills I've used to turn Words and the Bees into an almost five-year-old business. These days, Fiona is living out her passion for another fortunate charity in Queensland, and I’m using the skills she helped me develop writing fundraising copy for many different charities through Words and the Bees. While Words and the Bees provides copy and content for all industries, as the Sunshine Coast’s ONLY fundraising copywriter, I proudly specialise in writing copy for charities across Queensland. If you’re looking for extra support for the upcoming Christmas appeal, re-designing a website, or you need some clarity in creating donor-focussed copy that compels an audience to give, call me on 0422 053 199 or click the link below to find out more about our fundraising copywriting packages. https://rb.gy/dndfks #throwbackthursday to seven years ago when raising funds for rescue helicopters was our day job!

02.01.2022 The newest kid on the Biologi block has finally arrived! And it's the one my 40 (ish ) year old skin has been waiting for! If you want to know why Biologi's newly released BM REGENERATE ANTI-AGEING SERUM is the last anti-ageing product you'll ever need, read their recent article below In the meantime, I'll be over here drowning in the stuff until I look 20 again!

02.01.2022 2020 has created challenges that most business owners have never seen before and are unlikely to ever see again. Navigating the global pandemic has caused highs and lows that have made this a year none of us are likely to forget in a hurry. As we approach the end of the year, I’m happy to say that for the most part, it’s been business as usual for Words and the Bees.... So much so that I’m currently taking the final bookings for copy and content in 2020. If you receive content on an ongoing basis, there will be no change for your service into 2021. But if you’re not currently a client of ours and you’ve been considering copy and content for your website, NOW is the time to book. Call Jo on 0422 053 199 before the end of the week to guarantee your content before the end of this year. A reminder, bookings or enquiries received after this week are unlikely to be complete before 2021. Thank you all for your support through what has been one of the most unprecedented years in history. I couldn’t have got through it without you. Jo x www.wordsandthebees.com.au

02.01.2022 Facebook has immediately implemented a blanket ban on Australian users sharing content from local, national and global news sources. 'News' is determined by robots and many will find they are mistakenly caught up in the ban. There has never been a more important time to own your content and direct Facebook followers to your website. If you only do one thing today, make sure you tell your followers how they can reach you online. ... For those who use a Facebook business page to share news with their audience, read below to find out how you can still build share engaging, relevant content
