25.01.2022 Each year the Childrens Book Council of Australia brings children and books together by celebrating Childrens Book Week. At Woree State School we will celebrate Book Week in Term 4, from the 12th - 16th October. Each year Book Week has a theme and this years theme is Curious Creatures Wild Minds. We are planning a range of activities for the children to participate in across that week, including a Book Week parade of costumes.... More information about Book Week will be provided closer to the date, but students are encouraged to start planning their costumes based on their favourite book character or the 2020 theme. We look forward to continuing to inspire our students to read!

25.01.2022 Our wonderful Crossing Supervisors Department of Transport and Main Roads (Queensland) were invited to our Prep/Year 1 parade today & were awarded a certificate & coffee voucher from our Woree State School Parents & Citizens Association for always ensuring our students are safe on their way to and from school.

23.01.2022 Today at assembly Year 6 students, Matthew, Michael, KC, Steffan & Siobhan were presented with their 'Instrumental Music' & 'STEM - Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics' Scholarship to Woree State High School for year 7, 2021. WSHS Principal, Ms Kathryn Todd & acting Junior Secondary HOD, Mr Doug Ryan presented the awards. Well done Matthew, Michael, KC, Steffan & Siobhan for your wonderful achievement

23.01.2022 This morning our students and staff enjoyed dressing in fluoro colours to 'walk, ride, scoot and skate' to school today for our annual Fluoro Day. A special thank you to our Adopt-A-Cop Sammy, Donut the Dog & her colleagues from Queensland Police Service for joining us. Special thanks also to our wonderful Woree State School Parents & Citizens Association for providing a free breakfast for our students & staff.



23.01.2022 Woree State School students have entered a Chalk Art Competition. We invite you to like the students artwork (share & encourage others to also Like), there is a prize for the entry with the most Likes on the FNQ Suicide Prevention Week Facebook page. As part of raising awareness for mental health and in line with suicide prevention week in FNQ, our Project Kind year 5 and 6 student teams wanted to show their support and help raise awareness for the cause within our school ...community. They entered the FNQSPW chalk art competition open to all schools in our region with the theme of mental health awareness and the colours, teal and purple. Students came up with this brilliant piece of artwork a jellyfish with the saying, Just keep swimming. It is very fitting and they worked beautifully as a team to create it. 20.01.2022 A reminder that our school grounds, including basketball courts, ovals and undercover areas, are out of bounds over the school holiday period. Please remind children they are not permitted on the grounds during the holidays. Police encourage members of the community to report suspicious activity and incidents of trespassing. 15.01.2022 As we celebrate Book Week at Woree State School each day at 2:00pm this week we will post a video for you to share with your children at home. Our first book is a 'Children's Book Council of Australia' finalist in the Picture Book of the Year category. The book is titled NOP and is written and illustrated by Caroline Magerl. This is a compellingly, delicate picture book that allows the reader to go on a journey with Nop, a scruffy kind of bear, as he builds resilience and self-belief. Please enjoy NOP read by Delilah.

15.01.2022 Year 1 students had a special Fire Safety visit from Queensland Fire and Emergency Services - QFES today. The fire officer talked to the students about fire safety, the telephone number to ring in an emergency, what they have to do in an emergency - STOP, DROP, ROLL, GET DOWN LOW & GO GO GO. Students also took turns at using the fire hose and loved listening to the siren. Thank you Queensland Fire and Emergency Services - QFES for a wonderful visit.

15.01.2022 Year 4 students have created a drama scene which includes reacting quickly to a natural disaster - for example, a cyclone or bushfire. During this creative process, students have also had many empathetic discussions about how it would really feel like to be living through a natural disaster. The concept of empathy is also a guiding principle of the awesome school-wide Resilience Project. Year 4 students have shown wonderful understanding of empathy and drama techniques. Well done Year 4!

14.01.2022 Congratulations to our Day 1 'Make a Wish Attendance Draw' winners. Prizes will be distributed in Week 3. There are still 2 draws remaining. To promote student attendance and the ‘Every Day Counts’ message, we will be running the Make a Wish Attendance Draw this year. To enter the draw you need to ensure your child is at school All Day, Every Day from Wednesday 27th January Friday 5th February. When your child is marked present they will receive a ticket into the Make a Wish draw. Four wishes (prizes) will be granted over the first two weeks of school.

13.01.2022 Year 5 students worked in groups to create scripts and scenes for their drama assessment. They incorporated exaggerated movement, stock characters (hero, villain and innocent civilian) and comedy into their drama plays. Miss Sands is very proud of the high level and standard to which the Year 5 students have worked at and also loves to see how much they enjoyed the creation and performance process. Well done Year 5!

11.01.2022 REMINDER: During week 9 Arts lesson (this week), all classes, will be performing the songs they have been practicing and singing. All classes have been practicing throughout this term and are very excited to be able to perform. Students are invited to wear a costume for their performance. The colour listed after each character is what we ask students to wear for the concert. Some classes have options for shirt colours. A t-shirt or top of the identified colour that students can put on for the concert, then change back to school uniform afterwards is requested. Please note that students will perform even if they are unable to bring the requested top. Each performance will be filmed and will be sharing in the coming weeks. We look forward to seeing our students perform for the digital audience!

09.01.2022 On Friday the 18th September (last day of Term 3) Woree State School will participate in its annual Fluoro Day - Walk, Ride, Scoot, Skate to School. Fluoro Day is an annual event where the Woree State School community are encouraged to walk and commute safely to school in bright / fluoro colours. It is a great way to promote road safety, health and well-being, environmental awareness and the important message of Every Day Counts.

09.01.2022 During class 3CH Technology lesson - "Repurpose it" students planned how they would repurpose an old item of clothing. Students then designed and created their product. Great work 3CH

09.01.2022 Classes who achieved 90% or above attendance for each week throughout term 3 received a Woree Wonker Golden Ticket. Classes who win receive a Pizza lunch, Popcorn & Movie party and NO homework for a week. Winning classes will be announced at each parade this week. 01.01.2022 Our School Colour Explosion Run will be held on Friday 23rd October and is a major fundraiser this term. It is a great fun filled day and the more money we raise the more we can provide for the students. We ask that students bring a plain white shirt as the students will be covered in powder from head to toe and a towel because students will be getting wet. The day’s focus is on fun and fitness with the added benefit of raising funds for our school. HOW DOES MY CHILD FUNDRA...ISE? Students have now received a Sponsorship Form with instructions on how to raise money and order prizes. Students obtain donations in cash using the Sponsorship Form together with online fundraising. Students who raise as little as $10 or more will receive an incentive prize for their efforts. But why not aim higher? You have the option to choose up to five (5) prizes and this will set your fundraising goal. Family and friends are your greatest supporters, so ask them first for your support.
