16.01.2022 This time last week I was barrelling up to Brisbane in a mega storm to help launch Anne Richards wonderful new work A Book of Doors out now with AndAlso Books a...t the University of QLD - hot bed of radical activity in the late 60s and 70s which Anne brings to life so vividly. This book is about an important part of Queensland's and the nation's history - a time not enough gets written about - at least not in the way Annie does it - with humour and heart and courage. Thanks to Annie and all those others who put their bodies on the line to fight for the freedoms and policies we can often take for granted today and are perhaps in some ways at risk of losing. This is a book 'about a young woman growing up radical in a very conservative family & in a city (Brisbane) governed by a reactionary government.' I highly recommend it - you can buy A Book of Doors from good bookstores and the publisher direct here: https://www.andalsobooks.com/abookofdoors See more
16.01.2022 People ask me why I push so hard, why do I care about the forgotten, the hurt and the abandoned. I have a full time job as a vet and practice manager/ owner. Re...scue is my sanity, when you see what I do on a daily basis rescue has become my saving grace. Saving these little souls helps me to cope with the patients and friends that loose members of their family on a daily basis. Don’t feel sorry for me that I look tired, I choose this. I love this. I’m going to try to share some stories so you will understand why what we do is so important and rewarding- and so you will forgive me if I look a littke tired Possum This is possum. She came to me heavily pregnant and abandoned. A street kitty destined to have her kittens on the streets. Possum has never once struck out at me, she curls herself tightly into a ball and shuts out the world so it can’t hurt her- it broke my heart. Her kits are now 4 weeks old and she is only just now becoming comfortable in her surroundings. Stretching out, eating while I’m Watching, allowing me to pat her without shrinking into a ball, watching me change her kitty litter, and ...... playing with her kittens. She is watching how they interact with the world and is staring to copy them. She is learning to play again. Rehoming the kittens will be bittersweet when they are ready, but will I be able to trust someone with possum and her blossoming ..... that’s going to be hard.

12.01.2022 Yesterday we dropped by Nicola Tierney’s house to buy a copy of The Gribble’s Gift, a story I first heard about ten years ago as we sat in a class at the Broadbeach Library together, learning how to Write That Book with Louise Cusack. Nicola has worked so hard on this book and it’s a beautiful piece of work. We saw all the models she’s built and they’re amazing. Well done, Nicola! So happy for you!

08.01.2022 An awesome opportunity with literary agent Kate Foster.
07.01.2022 So, for reasons many of you know, I've been frantically trying to tie up loose ends over the last few months. And much of that involves finishing books that hav...e been otherwise dawdling along. As a result, I have THREE books coming out this week. Because FB hates Buy My Book links, you can find them all on my website (listed below) ebooks available from www.aikiflinthart.com/all-books.html #1 is my writers group anthology "Rogues' Gallery" which is full of fabulous short stories about all sorts of scammy badguys and hilariously naughty goodguys. #2 is "Healing Heather" which is number 4 in the Ruadhan Sidhe 'Shadows' series of urban fantasy novels. The characters from the original trilogy make a cameo appearance. #3 is "Worlds of Words" which is a collection of my short stories (published and unpublished) from the last 3-4 years. I don't write many, but putting this together resulted in 20 shorts and 30 micros, many of which are published and some are shortlisted in various awards. Made me quite proud. I'm putting the covers below ebooks available from www.aikiflinthart.com/all-books.html Print books available from Amazon POD or various other book retailers online.
02.01.2022 PRESS RELEASE - I am holding a BOOK LAUNCH, The Gribble's Gift, on the 8th May, - 2pm - 4pm at the Bill Deacon Pavilion, Mudgeeraba Show Grounds* just before th...e Night Markets which start from 4pm - 8pm. I am a miniature model maker and an author. My models, that have inspired the novel, will be on display in the one place, for one day. Come and see them close up for yourself. Please go to the event page and express your interest or desire to come so I can work out numbers for catering and the Covid plan. Thank you. https://www.facebook.com/events/737452150241763/ My name is Nicola Tierney and I have been displaying my miniature fantasy models at the Gold Coast Show for 20 years and at other events on the coast. I have now self published my own fantasy novel and illustrated it as well. The novel has been printed and published here on the coast. The front cover has been illustrated by Andrew McIntosh, a Melbourne illustrator. It has always been an important part of the process to have my book produced here in Australia. * Because of the Night Markets ALL people attending the book launch NEED to use the entrance on Worongary Rd (see map supplied) to ensure that you can leave when you wish. This is because the main gates of the showgrounds will be shut from 3pm and your car will NOT be able to leave until the markets are finished at 8pm. See more
02.01.2022 Firstly - I extend my Thanks to the City of Gold Coast for this opportunity. Here are some images of my process - from a design draft - to final design to appl...ication in the Urban environment. This design is Inspired by photograph of Lake Hugh Muntz , and painting by French painter Georges Seurat Sunday on Le grande jatte. The theme focuses on Urban Birdlife. Its about embracing some of our everyday ‘common’ native birds, that are often looked down upon as being scavengers or pests, yet they all play a vital role in biodiversity and have adapted themselves successfully to our ‘Urban’ environment. I use a semi-abstract hand painted style , using organically drawn shapes to symbolise nature in the urban environment. The native Dandelion is also featured to further the message that even though it maybe common it has many diverse uses as part of our natural biodiversity. These are 8 birds one may encounter when visiting Lake Hugh Muntz. #lakehughmuntz #cityofgoldcoast
02.01.2022 It was wonderful to see Nicola Tierney Author and her work at Supanova. The Gribble’s Gift and her art and models are awe-inspiring as usual.
