18.01.2022 From Paul Coffa, the General Secretary of the Commonwealth Weightlifting Federation, on 24 October 2020: " Dear Member Countries, dear friends, First of all I w...ould like to inform you that an Executive Board Member of the Commonwealth Weightlifting Federation, Dr. Mike Irani from England, has recently been appointed Interim President of the IWF. This is truly a remarkable achievement and therefore on behalf of every country of the Commonwealth we wish him a successful term of office. With regards to the Commonwealth Games weightlifting - I wish to inform you that the C.G.F. (Commonwealth Games Federation) in conjunction with the IWF has officially released the categories to be contested at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham in 2022. They are as follows: Women: allocation per event (category) 49kg 11 lifters 55kg 11 lifters 59kg 11 lifters 64kg 12 lifters 71kg 12 lifters 76kg 11 lifters 87kg 11 lifters +87kg 11 lifters Men: 55kg 11 lifters 61kg 11 lifters 67kg 11 lifters 73kg 12 lifters 81kg 12 lifters 96kg 11 lifters 109kg 11 lifters +109kg 11 lifters Allocations per Gender (Women 90 lifters, Men 90 lifters) Please note: There will be only one athlete per nation per category maximum. Allocation system: Automatic qualification for each winner in the 8 categories at the 2021 Commonwealth Senior Championships which the IWF/CGF has designated. ( 8 women 8 men) Total 16 slots. The two categories the women 45kg and 81kg, and in the men 89Kg and 102Kg categories, the winners will not receive allocation to the Commonwealth Games as these categories have not been included in the Commonwealth Games. Host country- Automatic allocation 8 Women 8 men Total 16 lifters IWF Commonwealth Ranking List (Ranking Period 01 January 2021 to 14th February 2022) top 8 rankings per each category Women & Men 128 slots - plus in the women one extra slot in the 64kg and one extra slot in the 71kg category. In the men one extra slot in the 73kg an one extra slot in the 81kg category. Total 132 lifters. Bipartite Invitation (IWF and CGF Bipartite Invitation) 8 Women that is 1 in each category and 8 men that is 1 in each category Total 16 lifters Total of 180 lifters in all. ALSO As soon as the IWF / CGF releases the qualification events from 1st January 2021 to 14th February 2022, I will notify all countries immediately. Also please note I will advise you soon of the Country for next year’s Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships which will be held in the month of October/November.
