25.01.2022 Finger injuries are common in basketball. Typical buddy tape (where two fingers are taped together) is an excellent choice for stability and protection. However reducing the dexterity of the fingers can also reduce the feel and control of the ball when dribbling and shooting. This check rein taping is an alternative option for PIP and MCP joint injuries, allowing better grip and control of the ball. There are obvious reductions in stability so athletes will need to weigh ...up the balance betwen performance and protection. Finger injuries are often considered to be minor by players and coaches. Fractures and tendon injuries can get overlooked as just a sprain. Collateral (UCL, RCL) and volar plate sprains should also be managed well to speed up recovery and maximise long term outcomes. For any new injuries seek assessment from a Sports and Exercise Physiotherapist, Hand Therapist, or Sports and Exercise Doctor. X-Ray's or imaging may be need to screen for significant injuries. If you are based in Sydney and would like a face to face consult please email [email protected]. Telehealth video consultations are also available for anyone based out of Sydney.

20.01.2022 ISOMETRIC MID THIGH PULL The IMTP is a reliable way to test maximal strength in both youth and adult athletes. Improvements in max force on a IMTP ca...n correlate with performance measures of vertical jump height and sprinting speed. Last week Exercise Physiologist Cameron and elite 800m runner + elite receptionist Lora checked out the @strengthbynumberstech AxIt force plates built into our sexy new lifting platform. We are loving the objective data typically only available to professional clubs and sports institutes. The forces plates provide information on max force generated on both left and right limbs, which directly influences our rehab programming and return to sport decision making. : @milkandhoneyphotography @fancyboyphotography

20.01.2022 Isometric strength exercises have been shown to help immediately reduce pain related to patella tendinopathy, which is a common source of knee pain in basketballers. Spanish squats are a great option to perform prior to training and games. Perform 3-4 reps of 45 second holds, to a depth of 70 - 90 degrees knee flexion. This demo is using a custom made, light weight strap from Zone 34. Designed to be used at the gym or court, it can be anchored around solid objects such as a... basketball stanchion, court side seats, or even a strong power forward! Head on over to https://www.zone34.com.au/shop/ if you want to grab a strap. Contact me via [email protected] if you need help with a management plan for patella tendinopathy. I am available for Telehealth video consultations for basketballers in Australian and Overseas. If you have had an injury or experiencing knee pain, please consult a Sports and Exercise Physiotherapist or Sports Physician to get a diagnosis and get started on a rehab plan.

19.01.2022 GREAT JOB OPPORTUNITY IN HIGH PERFORMANCE Sports Physiotherapist position at GWS GIANTS GIANTS Netball and AFLW An opportunity has opened up for a sports phy...siotherapist within our interdisciplinary and integrated Athletic Performance Unit. This position is based at our training base in Sydney Olympic Park. Working directly with the Senior Coaches of both our Netball and Womens Football programmes as well as the GIANTS Athletic Performance Unit, we are seeking a sports physiotherapist with at least 3 years experience in a sporting environment to work with our elite squads. Experience in either or both a netball and football setting will be seen as an advantage. The successful applicant will travel with both squads throughout their respective seasons, and co-ordinate the medical care of our players. This is a fantastic opportunity for any energetic physiotherapist wanting to work with our elite womens programmes and to drive the establishment of a world-class service. Exceptional clinical reasoning and very good manual skills are a must, along with a strong rehabilitation background. From a character standpoint, we are seeking a standards-driven and dynamic personality, one who will thrive in our supportive and detail-focused learning environment. Whilst a part-time position, the role across both programmes will see the weekly hours vary between 10 and 30, dependent on the stage of the season. As such, this role would suit an ambitious physiotherapist who has flexibility in their daily working hours to allow for the fact that the netball programme will train in the mornings and the football team will train in the late afternoons. This will initially be a 1-year post, with the aim of a contract extension following a successful first season in the role. If this sounds like the opportunity youve been waiting for, please send a single page (no more) cover letter and CV (no more than 2 pages) to [email protected] Applications close October 4 at 5pm (Sydney time), with an anticipated start date of November 6. Please note that only applicants who are eligible to work in Australia and who currently have registration to practice as a physiotherapist in Australia will be considered.
