A Bunbury Geographe Motor Museum has been given the green light after its Management group and ...the City of Bunbury reached an agreement at Tuesday’s Council meeting. Some very passionate business people have had their heads together for quite some time now, putting forward this idea. This will be such a positive for Bunbury, and they had no idea that in the process, we would have a pandemic. Bunbury will now need a kick start, and this is just the perfect plan required. Lease agreements to house the new Museum in the old Souths Furniture building were entered into back in March, but there was still some finer details to be agreed upon. This was resolved on Tuesday night at the Council meeting. BGMM Chair Paul Stubber said he was delighted the MoU had been agreed and thanked the City of Bunbury for the opportunity to establish an iconic tourist destination at the vacant South’s Furniture building, tipped to generate $4.16 million a year in economic benefit. The group also plans to develop more car events, with a typical classic cars meet bringing $353,200 of additional spend to the City. The members of the BGMM are passionate vintage and classic vehicle enthusiasts and are very excited about establishing what will be an extraordinary collection to rival any in Australia, Mr Stubber said. While we finalise the lease with the city, planners and builders will be busy designing the museum fit out, with a grand opening scheduled for November. It will showcase a wide ranging collection of veteran, vintage, classic vehicles, racing cars and motorbikes, as well as memorabilia. It will be modelled on the York Motor Museum. It is estimated that a similar museum in Bunbury would attract 18,000 visitors a year, generating $2.2 million in expenditure annually to the City. Chair Paul Stubber is one of three directors of the WA Motor Museum in Whiteman Park. This Group is be a non-for-profit entity, with members contributing to the exhibition space fit out ($100,000), running costs and a Manager to run the business and receive a peppercorn rent, waiver of annual rates and fit out costs ($150,000) from the City of Bunbury to make the buildingfit for purpose, to ensure the ongoing profitability of the venture. We are very proud to not only be developing another tourist attraction for Bunbury, but contributing to kick-starting the local economy again following a devastating pandemic, by bringing visitors to the town who will stay and spend in our cafes, restaurants and shops. Mr Stubber thanked Commercial Realty Principal Mike Jenkins for donating his time to help reach terms on the agreement. Councillors voting for this proposal were: Mayor Gary Brennan and Crs Todd Brown, Jaysen De San Miguel, Wendy Giles, James Hayward, Cheryl Kozisek, Michelle Steck, Kris Plumb, Tresslyn Smith and Karen Turner were for the proposal. Crs Betty McCleary, Karen Steele and Amanda Yip voted against it. . . . . .
