25.01.2022 So the joinery were a four week wait and $4800 for three front doors. Jesus was a carpenter, Jason was a boiler maker, joiner and Geelongs best builder. As always these young men were developing new skills.

24.01.2022 Hello legends, I am building two townhouses using recycled and sustainable (only plantation pine is in Australia no matter what the stamp says it comes from an animals habitat) timbers, bricks and products sourced as close to the site as possible. I am struggling to find any solid timber to use as stair treads. I need approximately 32 treads for two sets of stairs. Treads will be 850mm long by 70mm thick and about 260mm wide. Do any of you know of anybody that may be storin...g pre loved timber or have any in a disused building we could pull down for them? Timber recyclers are struggling to find enough of the same species for me. Cash waiting, please ask around for me See more

23.01.2022 Exciting times at Bells Beach... step 1 of about 3-4. Operation garage, and not just any garage. This will be in the view-shed so to speak of our remarkable new home, so it needs to be companion planted to tie in with our vision.... a glimpse for those interested, White rammed earth using white cement,white washed sand with RECYCLED concrete! and lots of newly acquired skills.

16.01.2022 Been awhile since Ive posted...enjoying life with my wife post Peter Mac. My family mean the world to me. The wife bought me a welding course at the Gordon in Geelong some time ago. Ive been wanting to use the new skills but not quite had the time. But here we go, Ive started work on my reverse offset smoker. I plan on filling my family and friends to the eyeballs on pulled pork, brisket and whatever else I learn to smoke. It shall be called Bush Pigor The Fat Boy thoughts?

16.01.2022 After attending the EBAA (earth building association of Australia) event in Nowra NSW over the long weekend, I feel like a little sharing. I have long held the belief that ethically building a home, at least cost to the planet is paramount to my business. At no point does it escape my attention that housing comes at a massive massive cost to this world we live upon. When I build a home every stick of timber is plantation grown for frames and load bearing or recycled for feat...ure timbers. Obviously I need to stay in work, some clients have me bend these rules some of the time. I cant afford to sit at home. A refreshing young architect from Brisbane did a talk on Ghandis 5 mile principal which I was always trying to use. It revolves around sourcing materials and services within this area. Obviously not everything can be obtained all of the time e.g. structural steel, but where we can we source locally. Please enjoy this video on the build of my garage. The sand and the recycled concrete as well as the poured concrete were all sourced from a quarry about 5 ks from Bells beach. 16.01.2022 With an enormous amount of pride I have to say, it is a relief to hand over these three townhouses in Barwon Heads. Relief as they have taken longer than I would have liked, but now they are done which gives me release. Pride in the work of my tradesmen and particularly my own work. With my wife on an immunotherapy trial at Peter Mac it was a very hard year. I stayed strong for her throughout the year but now I can release my own stress and emotion after finishing up here. ... 14.01.2022 Adding another skill to the workforce at Jason ONeill Builder. We have got the mix right and have started the rammed earth garage. We try as hard as possible to tread lightly on the planet, these walls are created mainly with recycled concrete, with local Moriac quarried white washed sand, pure white cement and a light colored road base. I could not be happier with the result, not just the end product but the capabilities of these two legendary young men. 06.01.2022 Happy Easter legends Well I found my responsibly sourced stair treads and have pressure washed, de-spiked and ran them through my 300mm Makita thickness planer. Does anybody know where I can take them to have them sized up on a commercial planer? Does anybody hire their workshop out to a bloody responsible builder? Any help appreciated hope the two local lads get through the elimination round at bells

05.01.2022 Not building related, but an unbelievably skilled trade. Young kids should get into Dads shed. If you want to be a tradesman you need to really want it... anybody can think they may like to do this or that, but its in my Nans shed I started nailing timber together. No harm ever came from a bit of adult child knowledge sharing.... or even better your own myth busting episode. Loving my night school panel beating classes. I done made me a hubcap Cletus.

05.01.2022 With our latest development all wound up I figured Id send the apprentice to trade school to get a bit more schooling out of the way. The plan was to enjoy some down time and await our next development in Barwon Heads. With Plans about to be submitted it hasnt quite gone as smoothly as we had hoped so we may have an extended wait on that project. My other son and nephew have been pestering me for work over summer so I guess I can fit in a bathroom Reno or two, small extens...ion or some stress free jobs to holdover until the next project starts. Id be happy to take the time off but with two boys of 14 and 16 wanting some work experience I figured Id be happy to do some smaller jobs only, no new homes or large extensions. Please feel free to let any friends or family know there is an opportunity to have those smaller building projects completed by myself (you all know my regular homes) and the two lads. Probably my once in a lifetime look at small projects. Have a happy and safe Christmas people. See more

04.01.2022 With plenty of pride I write this post. You have not heard from me in some time, some of you know and others dont but weve had our share of lifes struggles in the last few years. Ive chosen to leave the pains and struggles in the rear view mirror, knowing they were there... but are becoming more distant as each new day passes.... This has been a family build. Designed, and built by myself, the wife and eldest son. So proud of them both. These townhouses are some of my finest work to date, we made the concrete bench tops, filled the bridge timber stairs with resin and finished them with love. Our emphasis was on renewables and reusable materials as evident in the recycled bricks and tallowood floors. They are very modern and cross timeless boundaries with French style tapware and marble in herringbone bond. 04.01.2022 Id like to just release some energy here that I need to let go of, I think it will help me move on from a horrible year. My wife has just completed 12 months of immunotherapy treatment at the wonderful Peter Mac Callum hospital. Thank you with everything we have, this has without doubt saved another life... the one that matters most to my family. We only found the cancer as she was worried about me and sent me in for a check. She got one while I was there. Tradies, keep your... shirts on! I know a tan looks great but having you around is even more magnificent!!!! It has been a very long and emotionally draining time for me personally. I have jobs nearing completion that have gone on much longer than Id have liked. Mainly due to my pride. EVERY house I build is built extremely well and finished to my very high standards. This has taken me away from my wife and there have been many days where I wanted to lay beside her and cuddle a few more hours or even spend the day together. Contractual obligations mean a lot to me but this was so hard. Going to work everyday and some weekends to catch up. Im basically stepping away after the handover of current client jobs for 12 months. I am excited to have my wife and eldest son by my side to build our own development next. Im so excited as I cant wait to love what I do once more after feeling so sad. To all battling cancer you are heroes, so are their loved ones. If you know anybody going through treatment it IS ok to ask. For years I felt that to ask would remind people of pain but it is not the case. 02.01.2022 Hello everybody, I hope you are all well, I also hope nobody following me has lost their job or income due to this virus. Extremely happy and lucky to have handed over the keys to the new owner at 22b St.Cloud Court. A very good result for purchaser and builder. My next development will be in Barwon Heads with a potential start in October. I will be looking for an apprentice and a qualified carpenter for these two high end townhouses. ... Ill put out a post when the time comes for interviews but Ill post some sneaky peeks at the plans and 3D soon. This build will need a team capable of fabricating modern concepts in building on site, including the errection of beautiful rammed earth walls. Stay safe See more

02.01.2022 Hello and well wishes for the upcoming new year. Its always exciting to start the new year fresh and ready to take on the next workload. To be perfectly honest we were looking to start a new apprentice in 6 months, however there is a new incentive program put forward to encourage new apprenticeship training in rural areas. In short we are looking to sign up a fit young person, the carpentry pre apprenticeship course would be ideal if this has been undertaken or partly comple...ted. The work we do is hard and challenging. I am a perfectionist and train people in building quality high end homes. A completion and pass of year 12 study would also be ideal. We have at least three years of work ahead of us in what we plan to do, which will include my own home at Bells Beach which we are aiming to approach the tv series Grand Designs with for a possible episode. This home will be of concrete rammed earth and stone, will be extremely labor intensive and deliver job satisfaction on a high level. In short it will be my proudest build to date. I am also aiming to work with rammed earth on most of our own projects so hard work and an emphasis on eco building should be on the mind.
