23.01.2022 If a doctor arranges a script for you please be mindful that this may take 24 hours to get to the pharmacy and be ready for collection. Scripts are being taken to the pharmacy at the end of the day. It is not feasible to use a precious staff member to run scripts around multiple times a day. Truely urgent scripts can be arranged otherwise- the doctor will decide if it is urgent. But these are most certainly the minority. Please be patient with the entire supply line- reception, doctor, pharmacy assistant, pharmacist etc. If anyone has any other ideas please feel free to comment below. We are open to fresh and safe ideas.

23.01.2022 Mental Health Care Plans (MHCP) We have had some patients express frustrations with the process. So I am taking the opportunity to explain why a MHCP often can't be completed in a standard appointment. According to Medicare, it should take at least 20 mins to write a Mental Health Care Plan. The doctor needs to have an adequate understanding of your mental health condition to make an appropriate referral. At Narangba Doctors we are focused on quality care. Quality individual...ised care takes time. This is why we may ask you to come back if there isn’t enough time, or we need a longer appointment to understand your mental health condition further. Caring for your mental health does not end at signing off a MHCP to a psychologist. We want to understand your background and life stressors. We may also think that you would benefit from other treatments for mental illness. For example support in having a difficult conversation, exercise, mindfulness or medications. Importantly we wish to develop good rapport and a plan for follow up. We understand that Covid-19 has had a profound effect on the mental health of our community. As a result we are finding that we are preparing many more Mental Health Care Plan’s. We are here to support you and are more than happy to assist you in accessing the help of a psychologist. To ensure that we can provide the quality care that accompanies these plans please let reception know that you need a long appointment. Please understand that if we ask you to come back it is because either, we have not had adequate time, or we do not have a deep enough understanding of your condition, to complete the plan. I have attached a link to the Australian Psychological Society FAQ’s for more details. https://www.psychology.org.au//Medicare-FAQs-for-the-public Dr Michelle Bond

23.01.2022 Dr Ling Yan is moving on from Narangba Doctors. Her last day will be Tuesday 28th April. We are all very sad to see her go, but know that an exciting new chapter awaits her in Sydney. She will be missed. It was a pleasure working with you Ling. ... Dr Michelle Bond See more

22.01.2022 Please have a look at the new COVID 19 health alert and be patient and kind towards the staff who are trying to help you..

22.01.2022 Masks are mandatory until Jan 22 in particular settings. We are being asked to write exemption letters. As your doctors, we cannot possibly dictate individual circumstance in which the above criteria are met. This is the individuals responsibility. For example, when asthma is well controlled, a person can and should wear their facemask. If they are having an asthma attack, of course, it is appropriate to remove the mask to administer Ventolin and to help relieve the symptoms.... We are agreeable to writing certificates that support your medical diagnosis. We are agreeable to supporting that there may be some situations in which a persons mask may need to be removed because of that medical condition. This is in line with current legislation. We do not write or enforce the law. However, we do care for your health and the health of our community. As such, we wholly support the public health measures to reduce the transmission of COVID in our community. Mask wearing is only one of the public health measures. We support it like we support social distancing, handwashing, evolving isolation measures and getting tested when unwell. We ask that individuals act responsibly for their own health and the health of the other people in the community by wearing a mask when possible. We understand that there are circumstances in which a mask can’t be worn. However, we will not write certificates of exception outside of the current legislation.

21.01.2022 This is a great resource. Written by some Brisbane GP's. They write updates often. Throughout this health emergency they have been ahead of the game. https://www.gps-can.com.au

21.01.2022 Very exciting announcement overnight! Medicare is now providing a rebate for ALL patients for Telehealth consults from March 30. 20.01.2022 Good afternoon, Today we are going to cover some information about the actual Covid-19 viral illness and why measures are being put in place to limit large gathering of people. Covid-19 seems to have a rate of transmission that means that for every person with the disease they seem to transmit it to 2-3 people. Although collecting this data is difficult in a pandemic. Research and data collection is something that is difficult to do when the health systems are overwhelmed. ...Continue reading

19.01.2022 Schedule of phone lines: Lines open a little later at 8am to allow us to make urgent phone calls needed for the day. (When you are calling us we can't call out) 8:00am - 12:30pm: open ... 12:30 - 1:30pm: closed - urgent outgoing phone calls 1:30 - 5:00pm: open Lines close earlier than usual at 5:00pm to allow us to catch up on tasks from the day. As per my earlier post, our new model of care with telephone consults, is generating a great deal more reception workload.

18.01.2022 Phone consultations clarification: This model of care was a rapid response to the COVID-19 situation to ensure the safety of the community. We would like to clarify some confusion around phone consults. A phone/video consult is not always the best option and we wanted to ensure that there is no misunderstanding regarding our willingness to continue to see patients face to face. ... If the doctor makes a clinical judgement that a telephone/video consult is NOT adequate an in practice face-to-face consult will be arranged. An example of this would be when a physical examination is required to make a diagnosis. So, in summary, phone/video consults are a new model of care that we are using heavily at the moment. But the traditional model of coming in to see the doctor is still available, if the doctor thinks that it is clinically necessary. Would you like to know anything more about phone/video consultations? Dr Michelle Bond

17.01.2022 As per the announcement this morning: 1. Masks are to be worn by all patients and staff. 2. We will call you to invite you into the practice when the doctor is ready. 3. We ask that only the patient, and one support person (if absolutely necessary) attend the appointment. 4. A reminder that phone consults should be utilised ...for patients who are considered immunocompromised or vulnerable. Dr Michelle Bond https://www.qld.gov.au//current/greater-brisbane-lockdown

The fee for a standard consult is $55.00, with the Medicare rebate of $38.75, making the out of pocket expense $16.25. ... 16.01.2022 Tonight we are going to focus on how we can care for our mental health. I would love for the community to get involved and make suggestions for activities to be done at home that foster positive mental health. These are difficult times. Anxiety is high. Tempers are short. Life as we know it is changing. ... Let's take some time to look at our new reality with some positivity. It will take an active effort at first. So lets give it a try. Dr Michelle Bond

14.01.2022 Today I have a message for young people: You are not invincible, this virus could put you in hospital for weeks or even kill you. 14.01.2022 Good Afternoon Patients, A polite request to please park in our parking area behind the practice. Our neighbours are finding it very difficult to access their homes while we are open because of patients parking on the street. Thank you and enjoy your weekend

14.01.2022 To date, we have had no confirmed cases of covid-19 in our practice. This is a testament to our thorough reception staff and robust triage protocol. We are ensuring that patients who are at risk of having Covid-19 are directed to the appropriate healthcare facility for assessment and testing rather than sitting in our waiting room with vulnerable patients. Our strict infection control practices will ensure that as this pandemic evolves we will continue to stay open and provide care to the community. We admit, it will look very different and it will involve an uncomfortable time of transition for patients and doctors alike. We appreciate your understanding as we all navigate this new territory. We are learning too.

14.01.2022 QML at our practice (and all medical centres) are now closed until further notice. Free standing centres remain open.

13.01.2022 If you have ANY Cold and Flu symptoms, have travelled to VIC or NSW OR have been to any of the locations specified by QLD Health re the recent outbreak in South Brisbane, please call the practice prior to your appointment. Do NOT enter the practice.

10.01.2022 Is there any confusion on phone consults? Please comment and I can clarify. Dr Michelle Bond

09.01.2022 This is a great illustration of why we should change our actions and make choices that are socially responsible. It has an enormous impact on our community.

08.01.2022 We are happy to announce that we will be back to normal business from 08.06.2020.We are happy to see people for a face to face appointment as long as they don't have cold/cough/temperature or sore throat. We will continue to have telephone consultations as per Medicare guidelines for the Covid 19 crisis period but also encourage people with Chronic diseases to book in for review if you have not seen the doctor in the past 3 months . Current public health advice is that anyo...ne with even minor respiratory symptoms ( cough, cold, temperature, sore throat, shortness of breath) should be tested for Covid 19. This is usually done at the local Respiratory clinic. If you have any of respiratory symptoms please make a telephone appointment and our doctors will give you appropriate advice regarding testing and management. These measures help to keep General Practice safe for all.

07.01.2022 There was an announcement today at 10am by the Prime Minister. As such, when we open on Monday, all phone consults will be bulk billed. There will be no additional private fee. We were previously a mixed billing practice. There will be a few small exceptions, but these will be discussed on a case by case basis. ... Narangba Doctors would like to acknowledge the financial impact that COVID 19 is having on our community. We hope that this decision will ease some of the burden for our patients. This will be applicable until further notice. https://www.pm.gov.au//11-billion-support-more-mental-heal

07.01.2022 I saddens me to post this. The practice staff are having a hard time on the phones at the moment. We have a zero tolerance policy on aggression and abuse. If threats are made this will not be tolerated. ... We are your care providers. We will always endeavour to do our best in providing you with the best quality care we are capable of at the time. Yelling, making threats, abusing staff or setting unreasonable expectations is not acceptable. Please have a long hard think about what you are asking the staff to do, the words you are using to express this and the tone of your voice. Regards, Dr Michelle Bond

06.01.2022 We have lost power and phone lines. Computers will be back up and running as soon as possible.

04.01.2022 As your GP's we are here to support you. Please let us know if you do not feel safe in your home. We can help. Has your partner ever physically threatened or hurt you? Sometimes partners react strongly in arguments and use physical force. Is this happening to you? Are you afraid of your partner? 04.01.2022 Staff Meeting Update: Sadly #1 outcome of the meeting is to appeal to the community to be kind and understanding. We are trying our best to meet patient needs. Please have a REALLY HARD think about the urgency of your phone call or request. Aggression or rudeness is not acceptable. #2 If you have an appointment please call reception from the car park when you arrive. ... Wait in your car until the receptionist calls to you let you know that the doctor/nurse is ready. Then come into the building. We need to limit the flow of people into the practice. At this stage, this seems to be the best way. #3 I have a post coming up about the management of viral respiratory tract illnesses at home and importantly when to seek medical attention. Thanks, Dr Michelle Bond (please note that I am formally on maternity leave from clinical practice but I am helping out my friends from behind my laptop by continuing to manage the Facebook page and liase with the community)

04.01.2022 Why are we charging for phone consults if you do not meet the medicare criteria for Covid-19 at risk patient group criteria? Usually when you visit the doctor you are given a rebate for the visit by medicare. Unfortunately as it stands, the government has not provided you with this rebate unless you meet the criteria. We encourage you to write to the health minister to ask them to make the rebate applicable to ALL patients. ... Until then, to be able to provide our service as a health care facility (and business with employees) we are asking you to pay a fee. This covers the following: a) triage conversation with the reception staff b) time spent with the doctor assessing your condition/needs c) time spent generating scripts, referrals for radiology or pathology and medical certificates d) time spent for reception to send this information on. For example fax a script to pharmacy or scan and then email a medical certificate to your email address. Over the last week. This process seems to be taking approximately 30 mins. We have heard your feedback and have reduced the fees for children. Please do not abuse the reception staff. This is unacceptable. In times such as this, our resources are overwhelmed and we have to prioritise our time. Tasks are undertaken based on urgency.

03.01.2022 As social isolation becomes less of a quirky novelty and more of a harsh reality, we are faced with growing challenges to our mental health. In addition to the changes to our day to day life, many people are struggling with sudden unemployment and subsequent financial distress. Unprecedented times such as these, mean that people who have usually experienced robust mental wellness are beginning to feel overwhelmed. Even more concerning are those of you in the community who ha...ve struggled with mental health prior to these enormous stressors. Isolation is a form of punishment in many cultures. If you have ever been in a consult with me when discussing mental health, I talk about using your "web of support". Usually this would consist of the people at work, school, family, exercise, hobbies, community groups, churches etc. These supports have not disappeared but rather need to take a different form, which is unsettling. Also, as your GP's we hope that we form one of the foundations of this support network. We want to ensure that we are explicit in saying- We are here for you! Telehealth is perfect for this. We are more than happy to listen or give advice if needed. We can also link you in with supports in the community. I would like to take the opportunity to introduce some online resources that can also support your mental health. These resources vary and the below summary sheet from eMHprac is a great guide to the various resources available. https://www.emhprac.org.au//03/Full-COVID-19-Factsheet-.pdf I have also attached some general mental health information. I cannot stress enough our willingness to help. Please give reception a call if you would like to talk to one of our doctors. https://www.blackdoginstitute.org.au//black-dog-institute_ https://mindspot.org.au//10_Tips_for_Coping_with_Infectiou
