This resin and wood coffee table has been a journey taken over 4 months with the super-talented team at Iluka London .The wood was charred and ...treated according to the ancient Japanese Shou Sugi Ban tradition. Resin used : 130 litres of our Eli-Chem Resins Deep-Cast clear casting resin. This was a challenging build, designed to push limits and test what is possible for a single pour - yes thats right, all the resin in one SINGLE pour !. We had to implement a few tricks and cooling processes to minimise exothermic heat release !. Really delighted with the organic effect of trailing bubbles and optical imperfections. It looks like the wood was plunged underwater and frozen in time simultaneously. The aim was to test the limits of the resin in a single pour - to have a usable table and encouraging test data is both a relief and bonus win !.

22.01.2022 Four months ago we embarked on a unique project. The objective was to take Apple tree branches from Poland and have them burnt, scorched and charred in the anc...ient Japanese Shou Sugi Ban style. Then we played a game of giant pick-up sticks letting them fall at different angles in a custom-made mould. Then it was time to embed them in our Deep-Cast clear casting resin. Oh, and we intended doing the biggest single resin pour that weve EVER undertaken...130 litres in a single hit !. The result of this challenging and ground-breaking build is a chunky coffee table that measures 99cm x 79cm x 22cm thick and weighs around 150kg. A resin pour this large was only possible with innovative techniques to minimise / alleviate exothermic heat build-up. For that we thank @ilukalondon for their expert planning and execution. Great job guys, another successful collab !. The table has been mounted on a clear acrylic base to give the impression of elevation and floating. A fitting podium for this creation to shine and amaze for many years to come !.
