22.01.2022 REQUEST TO STOP HARVEST THIS AFTERNOON CFA District 18, Acting Assistant Chief Fire Officer (ACFO) Rob McNally has asked farmers in the Mildura, Buloke and Swa...n Hill Shire areas and the Northern part of Yarriambiack Shire to refrain from harvesting between 1pm and 7pm today 27/11/20 and Saturday 28/11/20. He said today and Saturday would see fire danger ratings of very high and severe across these areas and harvesting in these conditions would bring with it a risk of damage to headers and crops. "We've had a number of fires started from headers during harvest, and a number of haystack fires," he said. "Tomorrow is going to be just as hot if not hotter, but we've got a cool change coming through with a south westerly, which will increase our fire risk. "We also ask that farmers refrain from conducting harvesting work between 1pm and 7pm on Saturday and monitor your haystack temperatures. If a fire starts, the wind will change the direction of the fire. Cooperation from our farmers in the District to help prevent fires is greatly appreciated.

16.01.2022 Today we farewell Senior Constable Dennis Cox, who ran the one-member station at Sea Lake in northwest Victoria. As Coxy said in 2018: You’re more than a polic...eman to the town, you’re a bit of everything, social worker, you’re there for advice on things. People just feel comfortable coming to see you. And they did. Thank you Coxy. Your community was lucky to have you and we know they're saddened to lose you, just as we are

06.01.2022 On Sunday 29th November, District 20 conducted a bomber reloaders skills maintenance day with Instructor Eain McCrae who provided excellent knowledge to the ret...urning bomber reloaders as well as a couple of new faces to join the crew. Whenever using aircraft in training it’s important to get the best bang for our buck. This year, we utilised the existing aircraft available supporting the bomber reloading refresher to incorporate an Aircraft Communication Effectiveness course for identified Crew Leaders and emerging brigade members. This course was facilitated by ACFO John (KAT) Katikouznos from CFA HQ who is a subject matter expert and his knowledge sharing ensured everyone left the course with more knowledge on aircraft communication, drop effectiveness and assessment. All up there was 20 people attend from all over the District. A great day was had by all and congratulations to everyone, including the people behind the scenes that made it all happen. The COVID Safe overlay meant there were more challenges to facilitate the course however like always D20 personnel rose to the occasion and succeeded. Well done to all. #aircraftsafety #aircraftcommunications #watchforthedrop #CFADistrict20

06.01.2022 Today marks the one-year anniversary of the start of the devastating bushfires which deeply affected Victorian communities across the state. On 21 November, 2019 the first ‘code red’ fire danger rating in almost a decade was declared in the Mallee and Northern Country, and dry lightning strikes in East Gippsland started three fires which grew to a widespread bushfire disaster that burned for months on end. District 18 sent rotational crews and supports from SES and DELWEP wer...e critical in the sustainability of volunteers in that crisis. The support also was statewide from Victorian residents who helped supply food, water and essential items to those greatly affected. Many are still rebuilding their lives from their catastrophic event, as well as the effects of COVID-19. 2020 has been a gruelling test for businesses however we hope that the coming year will see further positive progress for all those who have been affected.
