25.01.2022 Bridge number three replaced after the bushfires is the Pyramid Creek bridge in Club Terrace. This bridge provides access to homes as well as strategic access ...to Club Terrace for firefighting and other forest management activities. Replacing this bridge was no easy feat! It required specialised engineering solutions and consultation with utility providers as the bridge site hosts crucial electrical, gas and communications infrastructure Complex safety management systems were developed to ensure the safety of workers and the vital infrastructure during construction. Like the Glen Arte bridge, this bridge can now accommodate large firefighting vehicles and has a design life of 100 years. Bushfire Recovery Victoria Snowy River Mail

25.01.2022 A year like no other. A snippet of some of the VICSES media coverage throughout 2020. Thank you to all our volunteers for everything you do.

25.01.2022 As at 10:30am (Saturday) we’ve received over 3,100 requests for assistance since the storm hit late on Thursday. Our SES volunteers alongside our parter agenci...es have now cleared 95% of those jobs and we’re working through the remaining 150 or so as quickly as possible today. Thanks for your patience Take the time to assess your home for any damage and call 132 500 if you need emergency assistance from the SES. It’s a good day to trim back any branches around your property and prepare for further wind gusts tomorrow (Sunday) and later in the week VICSES Greater Dandenong Unit

24.01.2022 As the controller of the VIC SES Wyndham Unit, I wish to express how proud I am in my Unit Members. In the time span from the 1st of January 2020 to the 28th of August 2020, we responded to 190 calls for assistance, including bush fire response, light plant deployment to assist police operations, lighting the housing towers in the inner-city, as well as lighting to an industrial fire in Laverton/Thomastown. All of this is on top of numerous calls for assistance with trees do...wn, roof damage, vehicles into properties, and the 2-day deployment to the eastern suburbs following a major storm. All of this activity was carried out in a very timely manner, and at no time did the unit fail to respond. All members showed empathy, professionalism and safety. All this, together with the restrictions of COVID-19, I can only hope the community appreciate what we do, as there is no doubt that I do. 23.01.2022 A solemn day for VICSES, as we farewelled former Director Rhys Maggs AM with a Guard of Honour down Carpenter Street in Brighton. Rhys was instrumental in helpi...ng VICSES become a Statutory Authority, and proudly led the agency between May 1987 and August 2005. He will never be forgotten. Vale, Rhys Maggs (1942 - 2020).

21.01.2022 To all Victorians, we want to thank you. Even as lockdown and the second wave isn’t over just yet. Because it's right in the depths of our toughest moments that Victorians show up for each other. And it's exactly that spirit that’ll continue to fuel us through this.

19.01.2022 Feeling unwell? If you have symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19), however mild, get tested and head straight home. For people experiencing symptoms there is onl...y 1 reason to leave the house medical care, including getting tested. While waiting for your test result you must not attend work. There is support for eligible workers to enable them to isolate while waiting for their test and if the test is positive, to isolate until they are no longer at risk of spreading the virus. If you have any of these symptoms do not go to work, get tested and get yourself home: Fever Chills or sweats Cough Sore throat Shortness of breath Runny nose Loss of sense of smell or taste More information on support for workers: https://www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/covid-19-worker-support-payment

13.01.2022 A lot of people have been asking us for advice on wearing masks. Here’s some of your questions answered. Should I wear a mask? Face masks are being recommen...ded in Melbourne and Mitchell Shire, due to the higher number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases currently occurring. Wearing a face mask provides an additional physical barrier to coronavirus (COVID-19), helping to reduce community transmission. If you don’t live in the restricted areas, our advice remains the same, using a mask is not required. When should I wear a mask? It’s a good idea to wear a mask when visiting busy areas like shopping centres, public transport or markets and other areas where it would be difficult to keep 1.5 metres apart from others. Where can I get masks? You can purchase cloth masks or surgical masks from retail outlets including chemists, hardware stores and other shops or you can follow our directions to make your own cloth mask. Victorians can rest assured there is no need to stockpile supplies. Stockpiling disadvantages other shoppers, including the elderly and other vulnerable members of the community. Please - only buy what you need. For more information please visit: https://www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/face-masks-covid-19
