25.01.2022 *LONG POST, PLEASE READ* Its been a tumultuous year for all of us, and the restaurant scene has been presented with many unique challenges. How best to keep your staff and customers safe, and your business alive and profitable? Make sweeping changes to your procedures at short notice, and stay up to date with legislation that changes so frequently it makes your head spin? For us personally the Jobkeeper scheme was too difficult to access, so weve been on our own. Surviving... through hard work, creativity and your support, but its been far from easy. Now, we feel the time is right to take stock of where were at, and figure out what best serves us moving forward. Well be taking a break from dinner service while we rest, recharge and work on exciting new ideas for the future of our business. In a world where youre not able to have a comfortably crowded cafe anymore, change is essential. Our team is rebuilding and looking for ways forward that make sense for us, and offer something enticing for you. 19.01.2022 Dinner to take away this week. But why no dine-in, you ask? Well, it’s complicated. Through the upheaval of our industry and our society, we have been open in some capacity every day. Now, as restrictions are ~easing~ we find ourselves in the position of being extremely limited by the one person per 4 square meters rule. As you all know, we were a pleasantly crowded little eatery, at our best when guests were elbow to elbow. Now, that looks different, so we’re just doing what... is best for us right now, and taking it slow, working within our means. Job keeper payments were not a possibility for us, so extra staff hours for a limited amount of guests, don’t necessarily work. Please bear with us while we work through the problems in our own time. On top of that, we’re dealing with the unexpected and sudden loss of our dear mother Joan Johnson. Many of you would be familiar with her, as she loved spending time at Ya Ya, and was always up for a chat with customers, who often became friends. We miss her terribly. 12.01.2022 - PLEASE READ & SHARE Well, what can we say about this year?... One minute we’re chugging along, doing our thing. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, Sunday sessions packed to the rafters with happy people, enjoying live music & margaritas, then overnight, everything changed... We had to pack up our furniture & do our best to survive on take away. Thanks to all you wonderful people, we did survive! With hard work & creativity we did quarantine dinner service & we were busy! We were absolutely humbled by your kind words & generous support. However, when restrictions started to lift, we found ourselves capped to a very small capacity & interest in take away food dwindled. Things started to get really tough for us. You asked when things were going back to normal & nothing felt like it was ever going back to normal for us. The idea of a packed to capacity Sunday session with everyone elbow to elbow seemed like an unrealistic future. We were exhausted & a little traumatized by the whole experience. We have grieved for the loss of so much this year. The only thing we could think to do was reinvent ourselves. Just separate from the past, from Covid 19, & all the doubt that came with an uncertain future. Therefore, it’s time to introduce you to our new identity... Dropout espresso Drop in & just dropout with us We’ve still got the same crew, the same great coffee & creative food menu & a new bar space coming soon. Yay!
