25.01.2022 POSITION VACANT - Details below The Yacaaba Centre is a small not for profit organisation that exists to provide counselling to a wide range of clients who have experienced trauma and who may be at risk of homelessness. This position is for an experienced counsellor, preferably working with children and adolescents, 7 hours a week with flexible working hours. Successful applicant needs to be fully accredited and a member with a professional body (e.g. PACFA or ACA). 23.01.2022 Big shout out to a major sponsor of the Yacaaba Centre. Latitude One Port Stephens collected and delivered individual Christmas Gifts for many of our current clients. Thank you to the organisers and residents of this wonderful community. The look on our clients faces was priceless.

20.01.2022 We have fresh fruit and vegetables Please come in and see us if you need a hand this week or please share to anybody who may benefit from this amazing assortment delicious goods! Thanks again to Tomaree Neighbourhood Centre for partnering with us to help support the local community. The girls were in today delivering the goodies to us which they received from SecondBite. ... We are open all this week Mon to Fri from 9am to 4pm. Call ahead on 4984 2176 and we can arrange a hamper for when you get here. Just a reminder our last day before taking a break over the holiday period is Tuesday 22 December so please make sure if you or anybody you know needs a helping hand with food come in prior to close.

18.01.2022 Tomaree Neighbourhood Centre has always been so supportive of Yacaaba Centre and are a wonderful partner! Today, they donated and delivered fresh veggies and fruit directly to our centre, which they received from SecondBite. This donation help us support our community and people in need. Thank you! If you would like fruit and veg with your hamper, please come to the centre and collect. We have celery, spring onion, sweet potatoes, potatoes, oranges, apples, and parsnip. Our opening hours are Monday to Friday, 9- 4pm. Please ring the door bell on arrival and one of our volunteers can get it ready for you!

17.01.2022 At this time of the year our wonderful community start gathering food items to donate for Christmas...... with this in mind we would like to make you aware of a fantastic opportunity we have been offered. FOODBANK NSW are allowing us to order Christmas food hampers for $20 ($15 for vegetarian) and the value is just AMAZING! The hampers consist of Leg Ham or 2 x Spam, Canned peaches in mango juice or Two Fruits, Vegemite, Strawberry jam, Baked beans, Diced Tomatoes, Leggos ...tuna bake, Canned corn kernels x 2, Peas, carrots & corn, Spaghetti No. 5, Pasta Sauce Napoletana/Bolognaise, Liquorice All Sorts, Mixed lollies, Tilda rice Basmati & Coconut x 2, Yorkshire Red 100’s tea bags, Abes bagel crisps, Paul Newmans Dressing, Sirena tuna x 5, Mi Goreng instant noodles x 5, Walkers shortbread, Foster Clark’s custard UHT, Caffe Aurora coffee, Chicken Noodle Soup, Christmas pudding packs x 2 cups, Festive cake. 13.01.2022 A lot of people have contacted us to donate items other than food e.g. clothes, furniture, baby items, books, DVD's etc. and we unfortunately cannot take them. Thank you so much for thinking of our service. However, we are a counselling and information centre, and unfortunately don't have the capacity to store other items. We have close partnerships with different services in Port Stephens, such as the op shops and the Salamander Bay Recycling Centre, who always supports us and our clients in need. It would be more suitable for items other than food to be donated to these organisations. We really appreciate the support of our local community and we thank the people who have been thinking of us!!!!

12.01.2022 @allsaintsanglicannelsonbay have kindly supplied $20 vouchers that can be used at their Op Shop at 11 Yacaaba Street Nelson Bay. Clients and members of our community in need, can apply for the vouchers at Yacaaba Centre. Big thanks to All Saints Anglican Church!

10.01.2022 On behalf of the Management Committee, staff, volunteers, and clients of the Yacaaba Centre, we would like to express our gratitude for the efforts of Castle Personnel organising and managing the concreting of our driveway, Macka's Sand & Soil Supplies for donating the money and Dale and his hard working team from Plant Concrete & Civil to actually do the work. Having the generous support of our community allows our service to continue to improve people’s lives. We deeply appreciate your donations as it allows us to provide aid and services for those disadvantaged in the Port Stephens area. THANK YOU THANK YOU!

10.01.2022 In the photos attached, it shows the drastic change that our driveway had to go through. This lengthy process of updating the plumbing, preparation and concrete pours was a joint project of many, mostly organised by Castle Personnel, funded by a generous donation from Macka's Sand & Soil Supplies and the hard work from Dale and his team from Plant Concrete & Civil. Our centre could not run without the support and donations from community and other services. Thank you so much- we are so grateful for your help!

09.01.2022 REACH OUT & RECONNECT Today, I hosted a mental health roundtable in Raymond Terrace alongside the NSW Shadow Minister for Mental Health Tara Moriarty MLC. R...epresentatives from local services, businesses, unions and community discussed the rising need and lack of resources - all services are stretched to their limit. Thank you to these organisations for sharing their experiences today and supporting our community every day: Yacaaba Centre Interrelate COPSY jupiter Australia Tomaree Neighbourhood Centre Port Stephens Community Drug Action Team Port Stephens Family and Neighbourhood Services Providence Medical Nelson Plaza Clinic Port Stephens Suicide Prevention Network I’m more resolved than ever to make the government treat our community with the respect it deserves.

07.01.2022 We would like to thank the Rotary Club of Nelson Bay and Bunnings Warehouse Taylors Beach for for donating new roller blinds and a new wooden bench. The "Rotary Boys" came armed with drills and tools and installed the new blinds throughout the whole centre. It has freshened up the place enormously! @Bunnings Taylor’s Beach also gave us a new wooden bench to beautify our outdoor area - our new favourite area to sit with a client, visitor, or a coffee. Thank you so much guys for this wonderful collaboration!

06.01.2022 We know its messy but this is literally our only storage cupboard for donated items (other than food). Up until 2 weeks ago it had no shelves!! Thank you to "Skeats" (you know who you are) for building our shelves. Your time, skill and efforts are greatly appreciated

06.01.2022 Hi friends of Yacaaba Centre! Our friends at CWA Nelson Bay are having a Christmas Fete on Saturday 28th November at CWA Hall, Gowrie Avenue from 9am til 12.30pm. All are welcome to come along and check out all of the amazing stalls!!!

04.01.2022 Attention new mothers! We have a good supply of formula, baby food, nappies, etc. for babies 0-3. If you need any of these items, please call into the centre and we will make up a hamper specific to your needs.

02.01.2022 The centre is looking a little brighter with the addition of some Indigenous artwork recently donated by one of our supporters. The paintings are by a young local Aboriginal artist and we love them. Thank you, as always, for all the love and support we receive from our community.
