Most importantly... will continue as a respected Melbourne late night live music venue. 11.01.2022 NEVER MIND THE BOLLOCKS IN MEMORIAM OF DAMIEN CHINN THE DAMO ALLSTARS, EVEN, SPENCER P JONES & THE ESCAPE COMMITTEE, DAVEY LANE, TIM ROGERS, HENRY WAGONS, JOEL SILBERSHER, CHRIS RUSSELL’S CHICKENWALK, CHUCK JENKINS & THE ZHIVAGOS, THE SPAZZYS, THE CHROME NIPS, KING PARROT, JEMMA & HER AMBITIOUS YOUNG MEN, VAN & CAL WALKER, THE CHROME NIPS, GRUNTBUCKET, CRYSTAL THOMAS, NICK FRASER PLUS DJS MELVIS, STICKMAN, LORENA NAH, CHENZ AND DR LUDWIG This is a charity fundraiser in memory... of our mate Damien Chinn who sadly chose to leave us in September. This gig will be an opportunity for his friends, many of them fine Melbourne musicians to give Big Damo a send-off he with the gig he would have loved to have been at. The night will culminate with a set by the specially formed for the night Big Damo All Stars featuring Joel Silbersher, Tim Rogers, Chris Russell, Spencer P Jones, Henry Wagons, Mikey Madden, Chuck Jenkins, Ashley Naylor, Jemma Rowland and the group’s musical director, Davey Lane. Music was the primary obsession of Damian Chinn's, and as a result of that he influenced everyone he met, his scruffy ne'er do well singer/songwriter/musician friends that comprise the Damo Allstars included. The bracket of numbers put together by this slapdash rock 'n roll combo does not nearly do justice to the influence and impeccable taste of the non-musician who was always the first to recognise a clever chord change, a beautifully abrasive guitar sound or a great lyrical turn of phrase. To do that would take weeks, months even. By small way of recompense and thanks to Damian, they'll just get on stage and play a bunch of songs that he surely loved and would have made him smile, said Davey Lane, one of Big Damo’s best mates, guitarist for You Am I who recently released his debut solo EP. Entry is only $15, with presales available through www.trybooking.com from November 12. Doors open at 2pm with live music running through until 1am. Yah Yah’s will be staying open until 3am or 5am if still busy with Damo’s kindred night-owl spirits. Food will be available courtesy of the generosity of Steve Sabatino and Paul Douglas. The gig will be child friendly up until 7pm, although parents must take full responsibility in supervising them. All proceeds will go to Mind Australia, which provides community mental health services to the community through encouraging independent, productive and purposeful lives. The Yah Yah’s, Bar Open and Tote family lost a long time work colleague this week, Claudo who worked at Pony for 12 years as assistant manager sadly took her own life this week. If anyone is suffering from depression and other mental health issues please speak up, talk to family, friends or seek assistance from organizations like Mind Australia to get through the hard times.
