24.01.2022 YSS has a wide range of authentic Aboriginal Arefacts that are produced ethically. Each pair of Clapsticks are individually hand painted by Aboriginal Artists from remote communities in Northern Territory. There are over 600 Artists involved in this amazing Arts Program! When you support Aboriginal businesses you support the economics of many many Artists and their Families.

24.01.2022 Perfection! Nature is truly amazing ~ loving this beautiful flowering gum from my front yard!

23.01.2022 Great move by Australia Post! Shows commitment to building partnerships with First Peoples. Yarn Strong Sista has recently started addressing our parcels acknowledging the Traditional Custodians. It’s a deadly feeling!!

22.01.2022 As an Aboriginal Artists I totally connect with the wise words of Aboriginal Land Rights Activist & Leader Dr Galarrwuy Yunupingu AM, Gamitj man of Yolngu people.

22.01.2022 Wa wa! In our Taungurung Language wa wa means hello. Wa wa to everyone visiting our YSS Insta page! ... We are reviving our Aboriginal Languages. Boonwurrung Elder, Language Specialist & Author Aunty Fay Muir says ‘Our Languages have been sleeping, it’s now time to wake them up! ‘ Our Old People were not allowed to speak our Taungurung Language, they were forced to speak English. So saying wa wa to our Tidda (sista) on the phone or sending an email that starts with wa wa is important. We are part of daily reclamation of Language & Culture. We are excited when are able to stock in our Online Shop more and more Aboriginal Children’s books like Uncle Larry Brandy’s, ‘I can count to 10 in Wiradjuri’ because all children and adults can be part of the revival of Aboriginal Language!

22.01.2022 badjur-budha This image is our Creation Story of First Taungurung Women. A Gift from Country for our newest bubup due in Jan 2021 x Working on walert walert (possum skin cloak) keeping our Taungurung Language & Story alive!

21.01.2022 Rev Dr Djinyini Gondarra OAM is a Senior Yolnu Elder, Ceremonial Lawman, and Clan Leader of the Dhurili Nation of Northeast Arnhem Land. This powerful quote gives voice to the feelings I sometimes find difficult to explain around my deep connection with Taungurung Country.

19.01.2022 Wow! These images will inspire and challenge!

17.01.2022 It blows my mind to know that our Marram (Kangaroo) are made by Artisans who are blind and deaf! Indigenous People of Nepal have been felting for over a thousand years, this is their Traditional handicraft. There is no company in Australia who are producing felt to the quality & capacity that our Fair Trade Partners are manufacturing. Now in our 7th year of working directly with 3 different Felt Producers in Kathmandu we have built strong relationships with our Nepalese Fam...ily. The ethics of our business is paramount to Yarn Strong Sista. When you purchase our Aboriginal designed toys and educational resources you are supporting our First Nations business based in Melbourne. You are also supporting Nepalese Women & Children as part of a Global community.

16.01.2022 ‘You can not have the future without the history of the past’ These are the resilient words of the late Aunty Iris Lovett-Gardiner AM, highly respected Gunditjmara Elder & Activist. Aunty Iris Lovett was our Teacher & Mentor in the 90’s and an absolute force of nature! She always spoke her truth of the history of invasion, the racism and treatment of her family and community. ... For this Country to truly reconcile there needs to be truth telling of Intergeneration trauma caused by the Frontier Wars and Stolen Generations. Yarn Strong Sista has purposefully chosen a wide range of Aboriginal Education resources for adults that are Authored by First Nations peoples.

16.01.2022 Now Doormalang (Grandmother) sheds her bark. She has provided nectar for Balayang (bat), Yabap (bird) & Mimgan (native bees). On Thursday night during our YSS Possum Skin Pedagogy Workshop, Dr Catherine Hamm encouraged participants to go outside on ‘A Place Noticing Walk’. It was great for Early Childhood Professionals to move away from their Computers and connect with Wurundjeri Country. I noticed that there was no flowering gum or Yabap squawking in a frenzy to get a feed...! In the Zoom Break Out Group I was able to share how I had been noticing Wurundjeri Seasons, watching beautiful Doormalang. Doormalang gives so much life!

I’m going to use our beautiful handmade Mperlkere Soap, exfoliating and giving my skin a special treatment! ... Amazing Indigenous Wattleseed & Ivory Clay are the perfect ingredients for self love! How will you include Self Care Sunday into your day?!!

12.01.2022 Powerful image of Lidia Thorpe Gunnai Gunditjmara woman and the first Victorian Aboriginal Senator! My fist was raised as I entered the Senate chamber, as an expression of my people’s strength, resilience and survival and a symbol of solidarity with all the families of Aboriginal people who have died in custody. I carried with me a message stick bearing a single mark for each of the 441 First Nations people who have died in custody since the Royal Commission in 1991. I am ...determined to work hard for justice, in this place everyday. Photo & quote shared from lidiathorpegunnaigunditj Instagram

11.01.2022 BUY LOCAL! This year I asked our Family to buy from local small business as part of our Secret Santa. For us it means having to put a little more effort in to find out local businesses in another state. But this is part of the act of giving a gift, taking time to think more deeply about that person you are buying a present for. Gift vouchers are a great option!

11.01.2022 Love this quote so much! Many people we meet say ‘Oh I’m not artist!’ at the start of our YSS Workshops. We are always pleasantly surprised to find these participants are very creative! We believe there is an Artist within all of us and by giving people the opportunity to express themselves while relating with natural materials, connecting with Country they also take time to connect with their own creativity!

10.01.2022 YARN STRONG SISTA OPEN TOMORROW!

10.01.2022 Excited to introduce our Yarn Strong Sista Team! Thank you to Sharon for the amazing way you communicate with our YSS Customers... you take time to truly listen to the person who is on the phone, being caring & compassionate especially during these stressful times during COVID.

09.01.2022 Sunday morning reading! Reading the blurbs of ‘black cockatoo’ by Carl Merrison and Hakea Hustler & ‘Us Mob Walawurru’ by David Spillman and Lisa Wilyuka I notice that both of these YOUNG ADULT BOOKS main characters are Aboriginal teenagers who are going through transformation as they learn more with their connection to Family, Culture & Country. The beautiful illustrations on the front cover of both books are images of black cockatoo & eagles. I look forward to learning ho...w each person connects with their bird kin and how this influences and guides their connectivity with their Aboriginal identity and homelands.
