16.01.2022 COLDSTREAM COMMUTERS! - Have you considered dusting off your bike and registering for the Parkiteer Secure Bike Parking at Lilydale station and adding the new Yarra Valley Trail to your daily commute? https://www.bicyclenetwork.com.au/our-services/parkiteer/

13.01.2022 Stage 1A of the Yarra Valley trail was officially opened yesterday! Present were Tony Smith, federal member for Casey, Mayor of Yarra Ranges, Len Cox, Councillor Tim Heenan of the Billanook Ward, Councillor Fiona McAllister of Ryrie Ward, and Rail Trails Australia Vice President Steven Kaye. Tony, a member of our local indigenous community was on hand for the traditional Welcome to Country. Also present were Yarra Valley Cycles who provided some eBikes to ride on the trail in the drizzly weather. Lilydale BMX Club provided a free sausage sizzle. A big thanks to all involved.

08.01.2022 The latest cover photo is by Craig Gormley. Feel free to send in photos you take along the Yarra Valley Trail. Perhaps on a semi-regular basis I'll select my favourite to be the cover for the following week/month whatever. Or maybe you guys can choose based on likes. What do you think?

01.01.2022 Hi everyone and Happy New Year! This trail has been a long time coming. I want to let you know a little bit about the behind the scenes work that went on to make this happen. Ever since the railway line from Lilydale to Healesville closed around 1980, many people have had visions of bringing back the line in some form or another. The Yarra Valley Tourist Railway has had some success out of Healesville but the rest of the line has grown weeds and there have been several attemp...ts to gain enough support from relevant parties to convert the Lilydale to Yarra Glen section to a Rail Trail. In 2007 several members of RailTrails Australia, various local business owners and a Yarra Ranges Council rep, attended a meeting with Christine Fyffe (then state member for Evelyn) at her office to discuss the possibility of building this trail. With limited resources, our little group, driven largely by RailTrails Australia, campaigned more local business and community groups for letters of support, raised awareness with the general public, met with VicTrack and Department of Transport representatives and Yarra Ranges Council to highlight the community benefits of this trail. More recently the broader vision of a Yarra Valley-wide trail was proposed incorporating the Yarra Glen Rail Trail as one part of a larger plan. So we all know the timetable: Stage 1a from Lilydale to MacIntyire Lane, Yering, opened just before Christmas, Stage 1b to Yarra Glen is due by the end of 2021, stages 2 (Healesville) and 3 (Warby Trail) in the years to come. Thank you to all involved for making this happen. See more

01.01.2022 An interesting article by Neil Follett. (Correction: The nicely grey-painted former platform near the end of the article is actually Yering, not Coldstream as described) https://www.weekendnotes.com/lilydale-to-yering-rail-trail/
