23.01.2022 This winter we've spent a lot of time preparing for the planting of our new trees: preparing the soil by planting a green crop of oats (which provides organic matter for young trees after being mowed and hoed in), aerating the soil, measuring the marking rows and tree spacings, and finally - the actual planting. And this is the end result!

21.01.2022 Here's a recipe by Irina Meliukh over on Instagram (instagram.com/saharisha) for cherry crumble bars, don't they look delicious? Crumble bars with cherry 20 * 20 cm baking tin 150 g flour 70 g large rolled oats... 100 g brown sugar 170 g cold butter, cubed 250 g pitied cherries 100 g sugar (or to taste) 80 ml of water 30 g of corn starch 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon 1. Cover 20*20 cm baking tin with parchment, preheat the oven to 180C. 2. Using a processor or your finger tips, mix cold cubed butter with flour into crumbs, add oats and sugar, mix. 3. Put 2/3 of the crumbs on the bottom of the tin, pressing with your hands or a glass. Bake in the oven for 10-15 minutes until light golden brown. 4. For the filling, put the cherries in a saucepan, add sugar, cinnamon and 30 ml of water and, stirring, bring to a boil. Mix starch with the remaining 50 ml of water and add to the cherry. Cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly, until thickened. 5. Put the filling on a baked base, sprinkle the remaining crumbs on top and bake for about 15-20 minutes until golden brown. Cool down and cut. Photo: instagram.com/saharisha #repost
21.01.2022 Last month we created 15 small homes or Bee Hotels for our native Reed bees to live in, to encourage them to spend more time around the orchard. The Reed bees help to augment the work of the honey bees that we bring to the orchard in September when the trees are in flower. . We cut sections of PVC pipes and then filll them with canes cut from our raspberry and blackberry bushes in the vegetable garden. The bees like to nest in dark moist locations which are safe from predators, and plastic pipes filled with canes are the perfect hotel room!

14.01.2022 How incredible is this a swarm of !! Look what has happened here to one of our cherry trees! Sometimes a colony of bees may outgrow their hive as they grow and multiply. They then look for a temporary home and create a swarm while they establish a new location for their colony (there are also many other reasons that bees swarm). Our beekeeper will come and remove this swarm and create a new hive. He will do this by locating the queen bee, and then relocating her and the worker bees into the hive. Once safely in their new hive they are ready to continue their work in the orchard!

04.01.2022 Chas Fitzgerald left this review on Facebook: "Rolling terrain and winding road dont prepare you for the gobsmack breathtaking panoramic towards the Dandenong Mountains upon creating the rise. In front of you are orderly rows of healthy cherry trees that continue down slope to a lovely dam then native woodland and a regional hiking track. But back to where you are standing. To the left is the farm shed, a modern shed that washes twice the fruit and sorts the some 51 varietie...s of cherries by size. After a peek at the operations continue around the whole of the shed to an attractive new shop where the cherries are attractively boxed in several sizes and ready for purchase. Ours were plump and shiny and sweet and delicious. Great to see the trees, and then the immediate preparation for market. They cant be fresher than this."
