23.01.2022 Well we had a change of luck with the weather this year at Yea and, despite a season long water shortage we were able to run all of our four meetings. The Club was grateful to QUILLY PARK stud who donated a disc to the winning owners of all race winners for the season. HOWEVER at our final meeting on Febuary 23 winners of Races 1 , 2, 3 and 6 failed to collect their discs. As I didnt back any of the winners they are of no sentimental value to me! If any owner/trainer of these horses was to call me on 0438048178, I can arrange to send the disc on. Stay safe. Denis.

19.01.2022 It is with regret that the Yea & St Pats Racing club announces the passing of Life Member Dick Cocks. When Dick and Sandra settled in Yea, Dick voluntered at the Yea club and joined the committee . Drawing on his lifelong sales experience, he was able to attract new sponsors and groups to the races, renting shaded sites to them to help pay for the costs of running the event. He also encouraged out of towners Denis Smith and his son Brad to Come up and help out, with Denis eventually becoming President and Brad serving some time as race day Secretary. He was very proud of his well deserved Life Membership, awarded about five years ago.

14.01.2022 Thanks to the generosity of Alexandra Racing, charities associated with Yea & St Pat’s Racing Club have been given a chance to share in a cash prize should Oceanex win the Melbourne Cup. Alexandra Racing were part of this year’s Melbourne Cup tour and shared their good fortune with the Mansfield, Merton and Yea Clubs, letting us be part of the VRC barrier draw competition. Whilst Barrier 17 ( our allocated barrier number) came up with outsider Oceanex, our followers will be heartened by the fact that the only Cup winner bred in the district, Sister Olive won the race as an outsider 99 years ago in 1921. Yea Racing hopes to return for the 2020/21 season with the running of the Sister Olive Handicap over 3000 metres on December 19. Watch this space! Meanwhile, for the sake of our local charities, come on Oceanex in the Melbourne Cup!

13.01.2022 What a relief to be able to hold four great Picnic Race meetings for the 2019/2020 season as the Yea and St Pats Racing Club. Thanks to our many volunteers, especially the track committee who produced four very even tracks with very little water over the season. Thanks to the owners and trainers who supported our racing programmes, especially our distance racing. Horse numbers were great throughout the season and a terrific group of jockeys came from around the state to rid...e them. Last Sunday Top Trainer and Top Jockey at Yea for 2019/2020, sponsored by QUILLY PARK were decided at the St Pats Cup meeting last Sunday. Top Trainer was Kelvin Southey from Alan Keenan, who made a late charge with a double, whilst, for the second season in a row, Shaun Cooper was the leading rider. He finished his season at Yea with an emphatic double for Seymour Trainer Don Dwyer in the final two events. See more

06.01.2022 Today at 10am a virtual Tour of The Melbourne Cup will touch the Yea district thanks to the efforts of the Alexandra Racing Club, who had arranged for the Cup to stop at Alexandra as part of its 500,000km annual tour. Alexandra had generously allowed Yea, Merton and Mansfield to be part of the celebration with the Cup to come to all the tracks before arriving at Alexandra. Unfortunately because of the COVID-19 situation, the tour has become virtual. However, not all is lost,... as Alexandra has also let the other Clubs be part of a draw for $50,000 based on Melbourne Cup barriers, so the causes that Yea has nominated, Yea Primary School Sacred Heart Primary and Community radio UGFM now have a 1/24 chance of sharing $12500. Yea,s strongest connection to the Cup is the 1921 winner Sister Olive who was bred in the district near Molesworth. The Club holds the Sister Olive handicap each year over 3000 metres. The race was the idea of Yea Racing Past President and Life Member Mr Ray Walker, a keen supporter of distance racing. To join the zoom event, assuming that you already zoom the Meeting no is 88272385913 Password Cup. I will now list the following code we have been given which would , I assume set up the zoom. Us02web.zoom.us/j/88272385913? pwd=QSt5MndQUOT011YUh2WnhLYUJUZ209. When the barrier numbers are announced I will post on this page and you can cheer home our horse as well as your own selection in the Cup. This tour that the VRC have put together has been well recieved so far and even those who are not welded onto racing should find it interesting.

05.01.2022 Yea Christmas Meeting Race 5: The Sister Olive Handicap won by McGill. Congratulations to trainer Anthony Barber and jockey Craig Kirkpatrick. The win awarded the connections a $1,000 bonus after placing in the 2140m race at Yea on 16th November. Thank you to Picnic Racing for the wonderful images.

05.01.2022 Whilst Yea & St Pats Racing Club acknowledges that Picnic Racing in Yea in November will not occur this year, it hasn’t stopped our track committee from working to bring the track and public area up to Race day standards. Today the track is being verti drained to encourage strong thick grass growth as well as making it easier for water to move away. Both Racing Victoria and Country Racing Victoria are keen for Picnic Racing to resume as soon as we get COVID 19 rules that are practical and achievable. As soon as those protocols are outlined, the committee will be in a position to decide when racing will resume.

04.01.2022 Rodwells Yea Cup Meeting Race 2: Won by Molly Dook. Congratulations to trainer Barry Goodwin and jockey Maddison Morris. Images thanks to Picnic Racing.

02.01.2022 Rodwells Yea Cup Meeting Race 6: Won by Blunderbuss. Congratulations to trainer Christopher Diplock and jockey Max Keenan. Images thanks to Picnic Racing.

02.01.2022 As our many followers of Yea & St Pats Racing Club would know, our Club usually races four times per season; mid November, mid December, late January and late February. Unfortunately, despite the best efforts and wishes of Racing Victoria and Country Racing Victoria, it appears unlikely that there will be any Picnic Racing before the end of 2020. On Sunday September 6 the Premier will announce a tentative road out of our Covid-19 situation and on September 10 Racing Victoria ...are meeting to plan the next three months of Racing. Unlike professional racing, which draws a large proportion of its income from punting turnover, Picnic Racing depends very much on crowd attendance and participation for both its motivation and viability. A recent meeting of the Picnic Working Group ascertained that a minimum of 600 paying entrants would probably be needed to make a Picnic meeting viable. There would be protocols to be met , which would probably mean pre booking/pre buying of admission so that patrons could be traced and mandatory temperature checks before entry. Naturally, the participants ( Stewards, jockeys, trainers etc), will have to be separated throughout the meeting. Anything past that is only supposition on my part at this time. Despite the will of the government and RV, who would love to see Picnic Racing back, our opinion at Yea is that we will struggle to race before January 2021. The Club is in a strong financially and the track is in good condition in readiness for a return to racing, thanks to a small dedicated group who have put in the hours over the last few months. Recently, the Club obtained a deferral of up to three months to hold the AGM; again we are at the mercy of the virus. Enough for now; keep safe and watch this space!

02.01.2022 Rodwells Yea Cup Meeting Race 4: Won by Good Verdict. Congratulations to trainer Craig Weeding and jockey Tim Grace. Images thanks to Picnic Racing.
