24.01.2022 New practice just released. "Repetition Builds Rhythm" is a strong 45 min Flow practice. After a few weeks living with our new normal it seems as though motivation is waning. Shift your focus to the small movements and let those create the whole practice for you. https://yogaemporium.com.au/yoga-emporium-online/

24.01.2022 February 2018 was the start of a very different kind of bookclub. Almost one year later, it is continuing to pick up momentum as a refreshing evening of tea drinking and diverse conversation. Weve read books about addiction, books with an inordinate amount of profanity, we talked about dying one month and anxiety another. We do diverse, both in book choices and participants. Tonight is the first for 2019 and were kicking the year off with Quiet by Susan Cain. From 630pm to around 8pm we drink tea and chat. Come along, start next month or use our list to inspire yours.

24.01.2022 For the past six weeks I have been teaching yoga at a high school, working with 12-14 year olds. I realised last week the little spiel I give at the start of each session might also be helpful for us adult yogis. 1. Be open to something thats completely weird and different making you feel and notice things you havent before. 2. Yoga is interested in challenging your physical body in ways that strengthen and lengthen it while not activating your nervous system. Maintaining slow, deep, rhythmic breathing is how we interact with the nervous system. 3. This means breath work is the benchmark, not how you or the person beside you looks.

21.01.2022 We're all using our bodies a little differently these days. You might have developed a new injury or you might still be struggling with an old one that our new 'normal' is aggravating. We've set up an online injury clinic to help where we can. Twice a week, join an online meeting. Pop by in the virtual sense. There's often simple things you can do at home to bring relief. We'll get through this together. First clinic is this morning. Click the link to join. Anytime between 7 and 8am. https://global.gotomeeting.com/join/850285349

21.01.2022 After deliberating for about a year, I finally introduced Yang to Yin a couple of months ago. I was worried I wouldnt be able to effectively teach "Yang" in 30 minutes nor give the deepest experience of "Yin" in 30 minutes. The feedback Ive received since adding it to the timetable has been incredible. "The start is so empowering! The end is so relaxing!" "I get it - I can feel how to build strength and heat and power and I can now give in to deep relaxation." Youve asked for Tuesday 6pm to stay as Yang to Yin and starting this Tuesday 14th, it has changed. This means Yang to Yin is now on three times per week, Tuesday 6pm, Wednesday 930am and Thursday 530pm.

21.01.2022 This is the first retreat weve offered with day + stay options. Each day has a unique focus with the culmination bringing together our last eight years of teaching. You might say weve been planning this one for a long, long time. PS early bird prices finish 1 Aug and all "early-birders" go into draw to win a private session with Paige at the new studio.

19.01.2022 A sore low back is one of the number one reasons people knock on our door. Weve created a practice specifically for the morning, specifically for your low back. Hit play while youre still in bed. Roll to your side and be led through a 20 minute sequence that shows you the power of cat-cow. It finishes with a 10 minute meditation which you can do or skip. Move to Meditate is available on our premium subscription. $12 per month or $99 per year. Tomorrow morning? https://yogaemporium.com.au/online/

18.01.2022 Winners announced! Congratulations to Denean and Anna who have both won a double pass to Wanderlust Brisbane. Thank you to everyone who completed our survey and shared their perspectives on yoga. Your words are invaluable to our planning and future offerings.

18.01.2022 Tomorrow night is our next 2 hour Slow Release masterclass. This is the one affectionately dubbed "the swearing class". Its as much a mental experience as a physical one with your relationship to discomfort as well as your hips under the spotlight. Last spots left.

17.01.2022 November classes now available to book via the website and MindBody app.

17.01.2022 Free tonight 630pm? Bookclub is on. Were doing a genre, rather than a book, the stories of inspiring people. Heres a little sneak peak of one of the stories youll hear. Ray Hinton. Wrongly convicted of murder. Spent 30 years on death row. Released. He gave us these. "I went to Paris. I went to France. I went to England. In my mind I can go wherever I wanted to go. I left death row every day." "Despair was a choice. Anger was a choice. Hatred was a choice. That knowledge rocked me."

15.01.2022 Last night was session one of our pilot program, Affected 24/7. For me the heart of this practice becomes about navigating work, life, relationships, health situations, being a parent, being a child, with an underlying sense of peace and humanness. This program has been a year in the making and last night set the stage for difficult but necessary work. The second intake commences tomorrow night.

15.01.2022 We usually offer our signature 2 hour Slow Release every six weeks so it's now well overdue. We are offering it via a live stream next Wednesday 20th 7 - 9 pm. Details and bookings here https://yogaemporium.com.au/slowrelease/

13.01.2022 One of our recent practices is designed around heat. Generating your own internally rather than needing it imposed from an external source. As with everything, working for it, makes it that much sweeter.

13.01.2022 When I first started teaching corporate programs about 10 years ago, most organisations were engaging in meditation and wellness programs just to say they were, to tick it off their list of obligations. This month I had the pleasure of teaching at an organisation genuinely invested in yoga and meditation. Oh the joy! I worked with a pilot group of Sesame Lane educators, giving them the tools to teach the little people in their care age appropriate yoga, meditation and breathing techniques. Teaching the educators means these tools can be embedded throughout the day, used for behaviour management, relaxation, physical coordination and self-awareness.

12.01.2022 Our next bookclub is coming up on the 14th Oct and considering the turn-out to last months poetry evening, we are once again choosing a genre rather than a book. Biographies...the stories of inspiring people. Suggestions for books to read plus details here https://yogaemporium.com.au/book-club/

12.01.2022 One spot left in the final 2 hour Slow Release of 2018. The next one wont be scheduled until Feb 2019 so if youve not yet experienced the joy of discomfort from this very unique way to practice yoga, reserve the last spot here.

12.01.2022 Last week, in a few random classes, I flipped the studio around. It went down about as well as asking you to participate in nude yoga. Amidst the fully clothed mutiny, I carried on. The danger of habit and familiarity, of doing, seeing and assuming things, often gets in the way of how they could be approached differently to bring about different results. Many people fall into the habit of pushing down in pigeon pose but its designed around pushing back, away from the knees,... wrists and foot and working deeply into the gluteus muscle. In the days that followed each backwards class, I received a handful of emails from people describing how they finally "got" some aspect of a posture or movement. A posture that had previously felt clunky or painful. Finally, no, this wont be a permanent change but it might emerge every now and then just to keep things fresh and encourage new perspectives. PS Nude yoga will never be a perspective we offer here.

11.01.2022 Details on our new course were released last Thursday. By lunchtime, it was full with applications still rolling in. Another intake has been added, already half full. Get in touch if youre interested in one of the last spots. https://yogaemporium.com.au/workshops/

11.01.2022 On Wednesday this week I taught another out of the box class, where we executed postures from a completely different vantage point. Have you ever noticed that downward dog is an upside down boat pose? The best way to deepen your understanding of something is to study its opposite. Anger - calm. Life - death. This is one of the approaches that will help in understanding where a posture is designed to strengthen, where it is designed to lengthen, how the breath moves in it and where the stamina comes from.

08.01.2022 2020 has begun with a full schedule and the first Slow Release masterclass is already booked out. The waitlist is now open for the 12th Feb and a second masterclass has just been added for 1st April. https://yogaemporium.com.au/slowrelease/

07.01.2022 Last few days to win a double pass to Brisbane Wanderlust. We want to get into the nuts and bolts of how you started yoga and why you do it. If youve been doing it for 5 years or 5 minutes, at Yoga Emporium or elsewhere, your perspectives are so valuable in how we develop classes, programs and other offerings. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/JJXWRP7

07.01.2022 Our final book club for 2018 is coming up on Monday night. This book took me a couple of chapters to really get into but from there it was a 24 hour read to the end. Its highly unlikely this book wont challenge how you prioritise and approach things. No need to book, gate doesnt shut, come for a cuppa and chat, 630 - 8pm. https://yogaemporium.com.au/book-club/

06.01.2022 We usually offer our signature 2 hour Slow Release every six weeks so its now well overdue. We are offering it via a live stream next Wednesday 20th 7 - 9 pm. Details and bookings here https://yogaemporium.com.au/slowrelease/

05.01.2022 Last week we bought you guys some new toys. Over the last few classes weve heard them described as both ominous and liberating. We shall see...

04.01.2022 Book club is back on for 2020! Our 17th meeting on Monday 2nd March will have us diving into Hippie by Paulo Coelho. We do book club a bit differently here, with a distinct lack of rules. Come all the time or come once. Read the book or dont. Weigh in on the conversation or listen and absorb.

03.01.2022 The Nov-Dec schedule is now online. The last day of classes for 2019 will be Friday 13th Dec...a fitting day to finish on. The booking system, Studio Bookings has just released a brand new version of the app. This means if you use the app, youll need to uninstall and re-intall the new version.

02.01.2022 Tonight is our next Injury Clinic. Jump online between 7 and 8pm for free advice about supporting yourself at home with old or new injuries. Its not ideal but not much is at the moment. Well do what we can to give you simple movements to bring relief. https://yogaemporium.com.au/injury-clinic/

01.01.2022 Monthly specialty class on tomorrow 845-945am. Held last Sunday of each month. http://yogaemporium.com.au/features/timetable/
