21.01.2022 I just watched this great discussion on Hypos with Diabetes Australia https://fb.watch/2qIWjzilHi/ I've been dealing with Hypos a lot lately and listening to this really helped me feel better about them

21.01.2022 That’s me in the forest taking a break while I wait for my levels to come up. One of my big challenges eating low fat high carb is how sensitive I am to insulin. That means unless I load up on some insulin free carbs before a walk I drop pretty fast after just 15 minutes into a stroll. Luckily we have such a lovely forest to take a rest in #diabetes #diabetic #typeonediabetic #typeonediabetes #diatribe #diabetichealth #type1 #type1diabetic #diabetics #diabeetus #diabeticgirl #diabeticfitness #diabeticliving #diabeticlife #diabetessupport #yoga #yogi #yogapose #mindbodygram #doc #selfloveclub #chronicloveclub #healthylifestyle #yogafordiabetes #bodypositivity #legendlifeafter40

20.01.2022 Wishing everyone a truly Happy Holiday season. As I was sitting in meditation the brightest and whitest being came to me. As I tried to capture it in an image I thought about how the sun is always shining. No matter what storms, clouds wind and rain... the sunlight is ever untouched. So too, the light WE ARE is never not there. May 2021 be THE year of rebirth, renewal and love. We wish everyone the best of the best wherever you are.

20.01.2022 Join Divabetic and myself for this little chat about the power of meditation for Diabetes management. Plus I will be sharing on the upcoming New Year podcast

10.01.2022 Friends! Vedic U P A S A N A systema...tically and automatically uplifts and leads you back to the most powerful stress-free place on earth: Y O U R S E L F As COVID has put society on hold during 2020, forced to look at a future no one can recognise, vedic U P A S A N A offers a profound way to deal with the stress. Reminding you of your fullness and deep potentiality, U P A S A N A offers a pause; a bit of respite in your journey back to normality. Why yoga and meditating works and in recent years has proven so successful and powerful in relieving stress is because it reminds you of your own timeless nature. While going outside can be dangerous during COVID going within can be equally stressful - If you don’t know what you’re doing. Hoping to find inner ‘peace’ inside, if inside is in constant meltdown and your mind is behaving like a nuclear reactor, U P A S A N A offers the cure. Managing all the fallout U P A S A N A systematically extracts you from ground zero to the timeless zone of beauty, space and peace that is always there as yourself. The one place of power and peace on earth that is always available and reachable is your Self. For 30 minutes find absolute solace in the beauty that is your Self. See more

09.01.2022 Creating my altar for Navaratri- the nine nights of the devi. This is my absolute favourite time of the year where I reflect on the subtle forces which are unseen yet as powerful as every day life. Durga is a fierce protectress and a remover of darkness. Now more than ever we need her shining light. #durga #diabetes #diabetic #typeonediabetic #typeonediabetes #diatribe #diabetichealth #type1 #type1diabetic #diabetics #diabeetus #diabeticgirl #diabeticfitness #diabeticliving #diabeticlife #diabetessupport #yoga #yogi #yogapose #mindbodygram #doc #selfloveclub #chronicloveclub #healthylifestyle #yogafordiabetes #bodypositivity

06.01.2022 Been building an altar over the last nine days for the Hindu celebration of Navaratri, the 9 nights of the goddess. Today is the last day and in the south of India they honor Saraswati the devi of knowledge speech and the creative arts . As I reflect on the last nine days I’ve felt more creative, strong and nurtured and my blood sugar levels have also improved. My average daily level has come down and I just found out my A1c is down to 5.9 from 6.1. All on a high carb low fat... whole food plant based diet . Ps my time in range is about 86 % and I eat 250 carbs per day. It takes such hard work to stay balanced that’s why I love my devotional practice. Something to surrender to and a place to ‘Give up’ every single day . . . #diabetes #diabetic #typeonediabetic #typeonediabetes #diatribe #diabetichealth #type1 #type1diabetic #diabetics #diabeetus #diabeticgirl #diabeticfitness #diabeticliving #diabeticlife #diabetessupport #yoga #yogi #yogapose #mindbodygram #doc #selfloveclub #chronicloveclub #healthylifestyle #yogafordiabetes #bodypositivity #legendlifeafter40 See more

06.01.2022 This is about all I can share right now. My ongoing love affair with fruit. If Someone tells you that you have to avoid it because you have diabetes give them the flick. Knowing your insulin to carb ratio, which fruits spike you and working with a prebolus means you can eat anything. Nailing the dosing for breakfast has been a huge win for me. This meal is 86 carbs. I have 1:18 ratio and I prebolused 15 min. I’m still building up my carb counts and variety. There must be abou...t 20 different plants. @drews.daily.dose @plantchics @masteringdiabetes @theguthealthmd #diabetes #diabetic #typeonediabetic #typeonediabetes #diatribe #diabetichealth #type1 #type1diabetic #diabetics #diabeetus #diabeticgirl #diabeticfitness #diabeticliving #diabeticlife #diabetessupport #yoga #yogi #yogapose #mindbodygram #doc #selfloveclub #chronicloveclub #healthylifestyle #yogafordiabetes #bodypositivity #fiberfueled #masteringdiabetes See more

05.01.2022 When I first travelled to Japan to teach I would walk into my yoga classes and see some of the students wearing masks. My translator explained that the mask was worn when someone was feeling unwell, living with a condition that required them to avoid colds and flu or as an ounce of prevention. I remember being in awe of their ability to a. put themselves and their health first and b. think of others... When I was diagnosed with diabetes I realised straight away how important it was not to get sick. Being sick meant uncontrollable blood sugars for a sustained period of time. Add to that the stress, trauma and tension of feeling doubly unwell. My job as a global yoga teacher required lots of air travel so I donned a mask while flying and where it was acceptable, wore my mask in public places. When someone was sick I wouldn’t come over to visit and when my partner fell ill I would do my best to bolster my immune system and keep my distance. When Covid hit, the directions from the government felt sensible. As there was no vaccine, no understanding of the disease and a variety of outcomes from no symptoms to loss of life, why not wear a mask to a. protect myself and b. help others. I assumed that everyone felt the same way. Nine months later I have come to the realisation that people don’t. I am living in South Africa right now. I have been here for a year. I am unable to return to Australia for many reasons. I look with envy at my friends enjoying maskless beach walks, parties with friends, their latest bookstore purchase or whatever. I have not been shopping, partying or socialising for nine months. The few times I have gone out it’s been for doctors visits, a quick trip to an almost empty beach or a drive through the countryside where I don’t even leave the car. People might think I’m paranoid, overreacting or have been brainwashed. I mean why not just give up and get it? Isn’t freedom and the enjoyment of life and all it has to offer more important than my personal fears? What comes to mind is that ‘people’ have never lived with Type 1 diabetes. Want to read more? 01.01.2022 Today, November 14th is World Diabetes Day, which, needless to say falls during a global pandemic which has already taken the lives of well over a million peopl...e. People with diabetes are paying a particularly high price. Not only do they have a higher risk of severe COVID-19 disease and death when infected, but many are having difficulty accessing the treatment they need due to disruptions to essential health services. The pandemic has exacerbated a situation that was already extremely concerning. WHO estimates that 6% of the world’s population has diabetes. The total number today is four times what it was in 1980. What’s more, the number is rising most rapidly in low-and-middle-income countries, which are the least well-equipped to provide treatment. How often as yoga therapists or teachers are you seeing people present with diabetes and how are you able to offer advice. I had the privilege of connecting with the lovely Rachel Zinman Yoga For Diabetes on social media a while ago, and she's a great resource and ready to impart lots of useful information. Rachel was diagnosed with the LADA (Latent Autoimmune Diabetes in Adults) form of type 1 almost a decade ago in 2008. Fortunately, she’d been practicing yoga since her teen years and has continued with that along with maintaining a passion for music that led her to release a devotional CD to help herself and others cope with diabetes. In October 2017, Rachel published her first book, Yoga for Diabetes, and her article linked here is full of useful info! https://www.healthline.com//yoga-and-diabetes-rachel-zinma #WorldDiabetesDay #worlddiabetesday2020
