21.01.2022 What is the vernix caseosa? The vernix caseosa is a protective layer on your baby’s skin. It appears as a white, cheese-like substance. This coating develops on the baby’s skin while in the womb. Traces of the substance may appear on skin after birth. You may wonder, what’s the purpose of this coating? Remember, your baby swims in amniotic fluid for 40 weeks. It’s this coating that protects an unborn baby’s skin from the fluid. Without this protection, a baby’s skin would cha...p or wrinkle in the womb. The vernix caseosa contributes to babies having soft skin after birth. It also protects your baby’s skin from infections while in the womb. Premature babies tend to have more vernix caseosa than full-term babies, if your baby is born after your due date, your baby may have less of the coating. The benefits of the vernix caseosa aren’t limited to pregnancy: This coating also benefits your baby during and after birth. 19.01.2022 I received exciting news from a Hypnobirthing client this week, having given birth to a baby boy! With her permission, I share her journey with you here~ Our little Theodore was born on the 22nd of December after a 4 hour active labour. I had to be induced at 39 weeks due to Pre-eclampsia but that did not stop me having a beautiful, positive birth.... Lights were dimmed, and I had beach sounds and tranquil chambers the Hypnobirthing meditation music playing on loop. The Midwives were very positive and followed my birth plan as close as they could. I was able to do birth my way and with just the use of gas I could stay upright and move around. I listened to my body and allowed it to do what it wanted to do and did not need any intervention. Mark and my mother were amazing throughout and really helped me focus during the last surges and bearing down. 19.01.2022 Some wise ponderings shared from eckhartyoga.com... The word ‘sat’ literally translates as ‘true essence’ or ‘true nature’. Sanskrit is a vibrational language and so each word is so much more than a label it literally holds the very essence of the word. Because of this, ‘sat’ also holds the meanings; ‘unchangeable’, ‘that which has no distortion’, ‘that which is beyond distinctions of time, space and person’, and ‘reality’. ... Many Sanskrit words use the prefix ‘sat’ such as ‘satsang’ meaning ‘true company’ and ‘sattva’ meaning ‘pure’, which leads us to understand that ‘sat’ really means more than ‘truth’, it’s something that is unchanged and pure. When looking at the word ‘truth’ from this perspective, it’s easy to then understand how so much of our time is spentnotactually seeing the truth or reality in many of our life situations. Our thoughts, emotions and moods are extremely interchangeable, yet these are the things that create our own truth and our whole life experience. Close contact with dad brings about many of the same remarkable benefits as it does with mum. ... Many of our bodily processes are run by and impacted by our hormones. Our hormones are influenced by many things including our environment and actions. When dad spends time skin to skin with his newborn, hormonal changes occur including a rise in dopamine. Dopamine is responsible for many things including pleasure. A rise in dopamine plus the release of oxytocin means dad’s brain createsa positive association with close interaction with baby. 07.01.2022 Your body and baby are perfectly designed for birth! Did you know, during birth, your pelvis opens to accommodate your baby's descent through the birth canal? From the pubic bone at the front, to the sacroiliac joints at the back, the hormone relaxin, softens the pelvis. ... The pressure on your baby's head may cause it to "mold" during descent. The bones of the skull are malleable and are squished to overlap, so your baby can move easily down the birth canal. This is a common occurrence that usually disappears over the days and weeks after birth. As your baby sleeps so much, their head continues to be molded in this position. To encourage their head to form evenly, think of laying your baby on their side during day naps, when you can monitor them.
