23.01.2022 What makes you set your alarm clock? What actually gets you out of bed? What is it that brings you to the mat? Yoga has a word for it, "tapas" it can be translated as the fire of determination, it is the fire that burns through blockages and distractions. Tapas is the fire that brings the spark of inspiration into action. As routine changes, the drive of tapas propels us in our practice. See you in class soon!... #yoga #yogaeverydamnday #yogaathome #virtualyogastudio #yogadaily #homepractice #practiceeverywhere #yogaonline #liveloveyoga #yogaeveryday #yogateacher #yogainspiration #namaste #yogalifestyle #yogadance #brisbaneyoga #yogaaustralia #westendbrisbane #tapas #niyama #niyamas #patanjali #practicepracticepractice #practiceandalliscoming

20.01.2022 Udana vayu is an upward rising energy. Think about the air rises that rises up through the larynx to create speech and song. Udana is associated with the vishuddha (throat) chakra. Disordered udana manifests in the throat, neck, and head. A strong flow of udana holds our head up and connects us to our highest self! Udana helps us acting from a place of devine inspiration. At the end of life udana is the energy that draws the soul up and out of the body. We can nourish healthy udana vayu with pranayama, and asana to keep the neck both strong and flexible. Mantra is a particularly powerful tool to keep a strong flow of udana vayu.

20.01.2022 Letting go We come into this world with empty hands and we leave with empty hands. We are living the process of learning to let go. When I let go of what I am, I become what I might be. Lao Tzu... Yogas fifth and final Yama; Aparigraha literally translates to not-holding. Aparigraha gently opens up our clutching fingers and reminds us, nothing is truly ours. Holding on makes us doesn't make us any richer. In fact, there is a thrilling space to be discovered in letting go! Where do you hold on? Where can you let go? #yoga #yogaeverydamnday #yogaathome #virtualyogastudio #yogadaily #homepractice #practiceeverywhere #yogaonline #liveloveyoga #yogaeveryday #yogateacher #yogainspiration #namaste #yogalifestyle #yogadance #brisbaneyoga #yogaaustralia #westendbrisbane #ashtangayoga #patanjali #eightlimbsofyoga #yama #aparigraha #lettinggo #openpalms #openhands #empty #hollowbamboo #purechannel #emptyvessel

20.01.2022 This week we nourish the downward flowing purifying force of apana vayu to cultivate a calm mind and grounded body. Apana vayu is the downward and outward flow of energythe exhalation and the elimination of waste. This energy is centred around the base of the abdomen from the intestines down to muladhara (the root) chakra. Defecation, urination, menstruation, ejaculation and childbirth are all under the influence of apana vayu. Disturbances of apana result in diseases of the bladder, pelvis, and colon, and contribute to immune deficiencies. When samana and apana vayu are disordered, problems manifest in reproductive and urinary systems.

19.01.2022 Vyana vayu is outward radiant flow of energy. I am constantly in awe of the synergy between the science of medicine and the art of yoga. Vyana moves energy out to the peripheries of the body bringing warmth to hands and feet, lustre to skin and a sparkle to the eyes. In practical terms, vyana could be interpreted as the circulatory system which moves blood and lymph around the body. Anahata chakra (the heart) is literally the engine of vyana vayu. This week of practice has worked both the heart both physically and emotionally to develop harmony between mind and body known as heart coherence. Welcoming you into this practice as you are with arms wide open <3

19.01.2022 When I start a new project, I try to imagine what it will feel like: Freedom, a hug from the universe, a blank canvas, wide open space, fresh air, soft light... I visualise, I meditate and then fear comes knocking. Unchecked, fear can hold us hostage in familiar comforts, fear dresses up in a silk straight jacket until we are ready to let go. What if your dreams came true? What are you waiting for? Photo by Merilyn Smith in West End Yoga Studio. I swear her photos manifest dreams <3

18.01.2022 Mushti mudramy colleague brought this to my attention and it hit me like a punch in the face. In yoga, a mudra is a hand gesture designed to seal energy. Mushti Mudra is a symbol of force that links the elements to support the inner fire of transformation. What a time to look and listen and consider where and how we can support transformation.... Yogis used this mudra for supporting weak digestion and elimination both literally and metaphorically. This mudra was prescribed for constipation and the digestion of unexpressed emotions such as rage and anger that lead to frustration.

16.01.2022 Moving emotions I wanted to make something beautiful and then I decided it was more important to make something real. Sometimes the feelings are too much. There is a point where the only way I know how to navigate this emotion is to simply put the energy into motion. Feeling very moved.

16.01.2022 Precious Energy Every thought or action requires energy weather it is love and sweat or time and money it is all energy. Yoga practice takes us out of the numbness of just keeping busy. Yoga creates the space to notice the conditioned default patterns of our comfort zone. Now is a precious moment in history as we look towards the end of isolation and consider how we choose to re-engage with the world. Perhaps it is worth a moment to consider:... Where do you loose energy? Where would you like to invest your energy? How can you direct the energy of your creative force? Yoga helps us to master the senses. Rather than letting uncontrolled senses distract you from the bigger picture. Enjoy your practice #yoga #yogaeverydamnday #yogaathome #virtualyogastudio #yogadaily #homepractice #practiceeverywhere #yogaonline #liveloveyoga #yogaeveryday #yogateacher #yogainspiration #namaste #yogalifestyle #yogadance #brisbaneyoga #yogaaustralia #westendbrisbane #bramacharya #pratyahara #samskara #whereyourattentiongoesenergyflows

16.01.2022 Yoga practice helps us develop a strong and supple foundation to sit comfortably with what is. Sthira sukam asanam in the words of Patanjais Yoga Sutras.

14.01.2022 Abundance follows generosity When we feel connected to vastness of life and are confident of lifes abundance, we are naturally generous and able to practice the third yama, asteya (non-stealing). - Donna Farhi... What do you need? Nothing more; nothing less. What do you really need to be of service to this world? Asteya is walking the line between stealing from others and stealing from ourselves. To deny ourselves the resources we need to reach our full potential is to steal from ourselves. To take more than we need, is taking from others - think about those toilet paper hoarders! How do we bring big ideas like asteya (not stealing) onto the yoga mat and into our lives? - Give thanks: We are practicing an ancient an sacred spiritual practice on Aboriginal land. Lets take a moment to give thanks for the privilege of partaking in this practice and honour the traditional owners of the land on which we practice. - Give your best: Knowing that your best will look different to your neighbours best. Comparing will only steal from the beauty of this moment. - Give back: Volunteer, compost, recycle and consider what is it that you have to offer before taking. Be generous with yourself and enjoy a week of cultivating asteya in your yoga practice. NB: For the Public Holiday this Monday, I have provided a recorded class to support your Monday morning practice. credits to @___merilyn for creating and capturing beautiful moments

13.01.2022 AdaptationYoga does not just change the way we see things, it transforms the person who sees. B.K.S. Iyengar How are you adapting to home practice? If you dont have a mat, remember none of the OG yogis didnt either. A towel in the grass will do. If you dont have a yoga strap, a belt or a scarf can work. If you dont have blocks why not lean on the wisdom of masters. All you need is the intention to connect. You got this

13.01.2022 Remember the days when we did yoga together in person? I am feeling pretty lucky to have you in my living room on zoom... and really looking forward to seeing your beautiful face in person soon

12.01.2022 How does the practice of yoga help us gather energy? We work consciously with Prana Vayu. Prana is subtle energy that propels us through life and a Vayu is a flow of energy. Prana Vayu is the path of subtle energy into the bodymind. In this practice we consider the inhalation, ingestion, even the way we gaze and how we listen. This week of classes we refine our mastery over gathering energy.

12.01.2022 A playlist to support your home practice. This whole week classes will be focused around the Fire Element... how do we keep our inner fire bright without burning out? MONDAY 6-7am... TUESDAY 6-7am 5-6pm WEDNESDAY 6-7am THURSDAY 6-7am 1-2pm FRIDAY 6-7am SATURDAY 10-11am *Private classes upon request* https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3kh4RcYIGDJNGD4QvnAH9y

11.01.2022 SAMANA VAYU: The force that integrates incoming energy. It governs the digestive fire (agni) and is centered in the stomach and intestines. This is where we physically digest food and symbolically we digest our emotions. Samana Vayu is associated with the solar plexus (manipura chakra) and the 'gut instinct' of the enteric nervous system. This navel space is also the home of belly laughter that helps us make peace with life's experiences that are difficult to "digest". Samana supplies the internal heat to "cook" the food we eat in order to assimilate nutrients. When our eyes are bigger than our stomach, both prana vayu and samana vayu are involved. Layer upon layer, week by week, we learn to work with the energy moving through us. Such a joy to share this journey with you!

11.01.2022 New Moon Ceremony The darkness of the new moon is rich fertile soil for planting seeds both literally and symbolically. Take this time to ask yourself:... What seeds do I want to plant? What is important to me? What change is needed? The darkness of the new moon is a powerful time for dreaming. Make a moment for it

10.01.2022 ONE We gather in circles, we offer support, egos melt away and metta (universal love) rises. In this process, something very beautiful happens: The whole becomes far more precious than the sum of its parts. We remember, we are one @nedmartinorg thankyou for your beautiful photos that capture precious moments of connection and thanks for having me @islandvibefestival

10.01.2022 The language of safe touchWithout a science degree, a baby knows what feels good. From a very early age we learn to calm ourselves through touch. We lower our heart rate and cortisol levels, and to release oxytocin. Touch is our first language. We know what we like and don’t like even before have the words for it. Zenthai is a healing vocabulary of touch. We learn to align the body and soothe the nervous system. You deserve to feel good, relax, take care and be cared for. Offering you an introduction this Saturday the 14th at our Zenthai workshop. Link in bio for details

09.01.2022 When you realize there is nothing lacking, the whole world belongs to you. Lao Tzu Contentment (Santosha) is the unshakeable happiness that comes from accepting life as it is. This santosha or contentment is the reason why great gurus laugh easily even at themselves. There is no guarantee that the perfect pose will bring you happiness but every pose can teach us to find contentment in what is. When we are not feeling contentment we can bring the body into the shape of cont...entment. We can spark the cellular memory of contentment just as the brain can instruct the body, the body can guide the mind, a gentle lift in the corners of your mouth can have a powerful impact :) "You can't run after contentment, it has to find you. All you can do is try to create the space for it." - Judith Lassater

09.01.2022 The neuroscience of sharing mantra shows that when we sing our neurotransmitters connect in new and different ways. It fires up the right temporal lobe of our brain, releasing endorphins that make us smarter, healthier, happier and more creative. When we sing with other people this effect is amplified. https://upliftconnect.com/neuroscience-of-singing/

05.01.2022 Look insideThis moment is particularly significant as the new moon aligns with winter solstice here in the Southern Hemisphere. The time to turn in deeply is upon us. Who am I? Svadhyaya is the quest of a lifetime. We get to know ourselves by opening our heart to notice all that we would prefer to turn away from.
