24.01.2022 We are missing catching up with our lovely young veterans in our community. Its been a long time between coffee catch ups & seeing one another. In the last few weeks we have received a number of DMs regarding our service so we thought we would put together some info for you. What services are usually offered by YVSS? Social activities Assisting veterans with employment opportunities Linking veterans to Gold Coast businesses Working with Gold Coast employers to educat...e them on the benefits of hiring veterans Coordination of appropriate services that are veteran-centric and specific to the individual (other veteran support organisations, advocacy, medical support etc.) Cold calls got a question relating to any veteran service? Call us, if we dont know we will find out! What sort of social activities have you run & how do we find out about it? All social activities are on hold at the moment due to COVID-19 However, we usually run a weekly coffee catch up at 10am on a Monday at Currumbin RSL. YVSS cover the cost of the cuppa and its a great way to connect with other veterans We also run a monthly activity which is open for Veterans and their families Events we have run in the past include: Barefoot Bowls Golf - Dinner and Info Nights Cooking Class Mood Food Yoga Wildlife for Veterans Program and more! Coming up when we get the green light is dinner and Mindset Seminar, Breath Enhancement Training and we are busy planning a ladies event and a day for the lads. We are always open to suggestions for social events. Do you provide welfare support? We are very excited to announce we will be welcoming a new Veteran Support Officer to the team soon watch this space for information on this new role and contact details. Do you have to be a sub-branch member to access YVSS service? In short, no you dont however, Sub-Branch members are given priority service ahead of those who arent members, which can be advantageous at times of high demand. What are YVSS business hours? 24.01.2022 The best project you can work on is YOU. Great to see our young veterans showing us how it’s done at this morning’s workshop with Robbo. Those ice baths were , but feeling AMAZING afterwards! We looked at FOCUS - how to go from a busy mind with distractions, into a mindset that is focused and with clarity. ... We further explored the BREATH - how this simple daily mindful practice can help us in stressful situations, eliminate disempowering thoughts and set our intention for the day. We then jumped into the ice baths to put our learning to the test in an uncomfortable environment. Using focus and breath, a couple of the boys stayed in the ice bath for 24mins, amazing effort. 23.01.2022 Big congratulations to Tommy for securing a position with the Protective Services unit at Queensland Health! YVSS was recommended to Tommy by friends who had also used the service to find work. He came in & introduced himself, we talked some options and a couple of weeks later he was interviewed for the job. Although Tommy’s military experience helped, Naomi quickly realised it was Tommy’s drive, professionalism and exceptional interpersonal skills that were going to serve ...him well in any employment setting. Tommy was keen to explore security in a government environment and we think the Gold Coast Hospital Health Service is lucky to have you Tommy! 20.01.2022 We love catching up with other veteran organisations and it was such a pleasure catching up with guys from @extra_specialists today! These guys utilise skilled veterans and first responders in the Entertainment Industry, and if youve seen the movie Danger Close, Darkest Corner, or TV shows Home and Away, The Commons (to name just a couple), then youve likely seen some of their crew. Their studio at Screen Qld Studios is definitely worth checking out. The guys recently ran a Film Safety Combat Course and we cant wait to see courses and workshops run from this brilliant location in the future ~ Watch this space!

Currumbin RSL are always keen to work with our young veterans especially at times of commemoration. Weve teamed up with Military and Veterans Golfing Australia who are keen to keep the tradition going after Sunday for those who are keen, so come and give it a go!... When: Sunday 23 August Time: Come along at 9.45am for Tee Off at 10am Who: All veterans and their families Cost: Weve got you - Its on us! Food: We will even throw in lunch!
